Edmodo is a versatile platform that has found extensive use in educational settings. Teachers have embraced Edmodo as a valuable tool for engaging students and implementing lessons aligned with CCSS standards. By providing an easy-to-use interface, Edmodo enables seamless communication and collaboration among teachers, students, administrators, and parents. It serves as a learning management system, allowing teachers to integrate it into their classrooms and providing students with access to a wealth of online storage space for assignments and resources.

One of the key benefits of Edmodo is its accessibility across web-enabled devices, enabling communication and collaboration beyond traditional school hours. This feature has been particularly helpful for online and blended learning initiatives, as well as for facilitating communication between teachers and their students. Additionally, Edmodo has been utilized by professional learning communities to foster asynchronous communication among teachers, allowing them to share best practices and lesson plans.

Edmodo's usefulness extends beyond the classroom as it connects various stakeholders in education. Through Edmodo, students, parents, and the community can stay connected with teachers and administrators, uploading text messages, digital content, class schedules, and assignments. It also serves as a platform for collaboration and sharing of materials between classes and even schools worldwide, promoting the exchange of ideas and content.

Overall, Edmodo has proved to be a reliable tool for enhancing classroom experiences, streamlining communication, and encouraging collaboration among students. It offers a secure environment for sharing projects and receiving feedback from peers while teaching students about netiquette and cybersafety. Moreover, Edmodo has been instrumental in expanding teachers' professional networks by connecting them with other educators for resource sharing and support.

Users recommend Edmodo for various purposes. One common recommendation is to use Edmodo to improve organization and communication in teaching, especially at the university level. Users find it helpful for facilitating discussions after completing lessons and for distance classes. Edmodo also allows for mass communication, saving time and improving communication with students who have internet access.

Another recommendation is to consider unique student needs before committing to Edmodo. Some students prefer non-digital means of proving their mastery, so it's important to take their preferences into account.

Users also recommend Edmodo as a powerful platform that creates a worldwide learning network, connecting students and resources globally. It is highly recommended for all teachers, parents, and students.

While users appreciate the features provided by Edmodo, they mention that there are other applications in the market that may be more user-friendly and interconnected. They suggest considering more modern choices for a smoother user experience.

Overall, Edmodo is recommended for integrating technology into the classroom, especially for grades 5 and above, and for creating a classroom-like environment.

We have used Edmodo as a platform to create a virtual environment for our classrooms to give students quizzes and assignments. We have used it building-wide across grade levels. This platform helps us to provide quick feedback to our students on their progress and performance in class. We are also able to track their improvements to be able to celebrate successes.
  • Ease of access for our students and staff.
  • Provides a way to access students with records of their performance.
  • Customer service is available and willing to work with us to help us troubleshoot.
  • When using the app, we have encountered difficulty with it asking to be reinstalled.
  • There have been instances of student answers disappearing when they submit.
  • Some notifications that will constantly reappear even after being cleared.
Edmodo does a great job of presenting student results. The use of bar graphs allows us to quickly see where students are at to plan for interventions and instruction. It allows students to have access to the assignment even if they are outside of the classroom. It allows for faster feedback to be given to my students about their performance.

  • Our students understand where they are at with their progress.
  • It allows faculty to quickly grade and give feedback to students and frees up their time for other activities.
  • Ease of creating assignments and quizzes.
Canvas provides the most features as compared to Edmodo. I like the ease of Edmodo and its ease of use. It provides the basics of what someone needs who doesn't want every bell and whistle under the sun. There are times when all the extras make it difficult to simply do what you need to.
They provide multiple avenues to reach them whether through direct contact, help tutorials, forums, and communities. I am always able to find some avenue that will allow me to find the answer I am looking for. I am able to see the experiences of other users and do not always have to call or send in an email to customer support.

Edmodo is used to engage students and allows for student to use it in the classroom, on portable devices, at home and on the go. I develop lessons and Implement them via CCSS standards. Information is recorded and progress assists me in easily establishing grading, popular assignments, areas of reteaching and a high level of communications amongst, teachers, students, administrators, parents and remote monitoring agencies, I.E. partners or vendors. Vendors are those service providers that provide applications or academic resources used in teaching.
  • Wonderful communications tool to help a teacher to plan!
  • Wonderful student engagement.
  • Fantastic time savings for teachers who can have more time to help individual students rather than talk too much in classrooms.
  • Great for collaboration of tests or assignments amongst sharing teachers.
  • Easy to create surveys for students and teachers to evaluate needs.
  • The test pages should allow for documents like short stories to be accessed so an exam does not have too much information, confusing students.
  • It used to be easier to send assignments back to students to re-do, now you have to give a low grade and hope the student sees the grade and re-does thier work.
I see EDMODO as a tool that can elliminate textbooks. As long as you use Standard stories, tried and true, you will have no issues. Edmodo does a great job of chunking and allowing the students to take better ownership of work and helps them organize as well.
  • One example personnally was the fact that at a site, I was one of few teachers providing lesson plans and had documentation to prove it.
  • It allowed me to use very little paper and was great in preparing students to do online assessments, which will be the norm, going forward.
  • It really helped me save time and money as it has built in reinforcers, (Badges), that can become costly and only profitable for $0.96 type stores that often result in trash/plastic products.
  • I found it excellent that I spent zero monies, while districts pay thousands if not more for systems that only force exams to be input and provide almost the same level of statistical data.
EDMODO is unique in that there are few products like it. It works as an interface and helps to organize many tasks that are overwhelming teachers today and keeping them from helping those students in the most need.

Edmodo takes care of itself. If there is a problem the Edmodo support team online helps you usually within a day or so.
  • Save paper and ink
  • Save on copiers and copy wars.
  • Communications with feedback students can use is the best feature.
  • Portals for parents really allows for parent participation without student embarassment.
  • Once you made an exam, it can be shared and corrected by the system saving many hours, providing feedback and saving teachers from expensive grading software.
  • Edmodo saves money!
  • Edmodo helps teachers to plan!
  • Edmodo allows for data gathering.
  • Edmodo allows for teachers to provide links so students dont loose important information as links can be complex or misspelled.
  • Students can use other newer technology based learning tools like Khan Academy and Google Doc.s as these are proven cost saving and student friendly resources available to both affluent as well as economically challenged families.
  • Students make a profile, and they can create and communicate a little more about themselves to the people who work to help them.
  • If everyone had Edmodo, we could all be more sharing and have the understanding of similar data to better plan for the learning of future students.
  • I have found that even when some students may have been suspended, they went home and worked on assignments in Edmodo!!!
We have to do more today with less. We have to find alternatives to printing and copies and a lot of other non-sense that creates trash and duplicative work. Students need information. They need to know how they do. They need feedback that is substantive. Edmodo puts an end the need for paper, copies, and demands planning. This is what studnets need today to be the best they can be. :)
Yes
Some products I reviewed did not have flexibility or ease of use for the students. Edmodo appears to be focused on what the student needs and not just for its profit stockholders. Some companies I reviewed cost the district hundreds of dollars and did not have the engagement factor that Edmodo does.

It could be the single most important reason that I am still a teacher. There seems to be no hidden agenda with Edmodo to see how teachers are doing. It is focused on helping everyone to communicate more efficiently without costing me anything.
Sometimes we come into a assignment and we are given many tools or resources. In my case I was not. I was given little resources, little understanding and the students needed something they could use to help them focus. As long as I am a teacher, I will lobby for the cost effective use of resources, lobby for the fair treatment of students, rich or poor and lobby for the collaboration of teachers, students, parents and administrators towards the goal of maximizing student achievement.

I used me.
Yes
Yes, I used to teach multiple subjects then used my single subject credential to teach Computers. I found that it can be used by any discipline and was able to begin sharing with my collegues. I was even asked to do some district wide training for other schools.
Change management was minimal
Teachers like books and paper. It was how they learned. Today, my 85 year old mother uses Skype to talk with relatives, Facebook to travel and converse, and she uses to fear and hate computers. Everyone has to learn to understand that a computer is just a pencil. It is a new artistic tool that just about anyone can use. Focus on the tool and not being a tool.
  • Teachers fear change.
  • Administrators fear change.
  • Students love to learn.
I could be an Edmodo trainer!

There is no more money for this. Things need to work as they are displayed. Edmodo is keep simple to save on costs.
The staff is caring and helpful. I have not yet met a staff support person that was not totally dedicated to serving the students needs.
Yes
Yes, It was resolved in a day or so.
I really like that if you have an educational question, Edmodo allows for teachers to discuss the matter in a safe non-biased arena. Many educators have seen issues and can share more easily in this method. Normally shy teachers can help. Internet savey teachers can share their experiences. You can decide what you like that people shared and choose to implement what your demographic needs require.
  • Instant grading saves time, provides feedback and saves trees from dying.
  • Students learn to do tasks like keyboarding, surfing and sharing.
  • Teacher planning is almost forced but with organizational focus.
  • Students would do better if they had access to a computer and internet. These are not in every classroom.
  • Not everyone has internet or a computer at home. But there are many great agencies out there that support this void.
Yes
The students today have many toys. They use smartphones, ipad,s and other portable devices and there are free app's for them to do work.
When I was given 100 studnets it was no problem. When I was given another 60 it was still no problem. I didn't really have much more work to do. I definately didn't have to make copies or look for old assignments for students who joined a school later than traditional one's. When students missed or were sent home, they could still be part of the learning community.

Edmodo for Education

Edmodo is a fantastic program that provides a means for communication and collaboration in several different facets, within select departments. Currently, we are not using Edmodo for cross-district purposes; however, this does not minimize the instructional impact this program has had for the teachers who use it within their own classrooms. Edmodo provides an easy-to-use interface for student use and includes a large quantity of online storage space for assignments and resources. Students can access Edmodo from any web-enabled device, allowing communication and collaboration to occur beyond traditional school hours.
  • Edmodo has an easy-to-use, appealing graphic design that puts even the most tech-resistant user at ease.
  • Edmodo's assessment features such as quizzes and polls allow users to gain data in a quick, meaningful format that includes individualized tracking and group graphics.
  • Edmodo provides a means of motivation for student users through the awarding of badges.
  • Edmodo's personal app store allows students who do not have access to a mobile device the opportunity to participate in various programs and activities otherwise inaccessible.
  • Edmodo provides an excellent source of professional resources as users can connect with other users and groups who have a shared interest.
  • As Edmodo expands from a teacher/student use, it would be great to see common options such as badges offered for teacher/teacher use.
  • The new view of Edmodo provides generic avatars, replacing unique clip art options. While this does help to streamline the overall view of the website, students enjoyed having the opportunity to select a personalized avatar that reflected their own interests.
  • Uploading documents to the Edmodo library is quick and seamless. The downloading and transfer process is a bit more cumbersome.
Edmodo is an excellent tool for educators who are looking to increase online communication and collaboration among each other and with their students. Prospects would be best advised to seek out the Edmodo District Admin if looking to gain more information about how Edmodo is or could be used in a school district.
  • In my department, Edmodo has provided better customer service for teachers seeking out a digital way to increase communication and collaboration within their departments and with students.
Edmodo is a free program, so there is no loss of profit in using this tool within our organization.

The majority of our Edmodo accounts are student accounts as there are more students than teachers in our district. Due to the increased numbers in high school, the majority of our student users are from that level.
9
There are nine instructional technology resource teachers who are trained in using Edmodo and available to provide professional development in the program if needed. We have found that the best support personnel for Edmodo are the users themselves as they support one another.
  • Provide timely assessment data for instructional use.
  • Create a safe environment for communication thoughts and ideas.
  • Providing a digital forum for collaboration on projects and assignments.
  • One class used Edmodo for conflict resolution over playing kickball at recess. Each student was allowed to have a voice through digital communication posts (even shy students who never felt their voices had been heard before), and students learned first-hand the power of compromise. This led to a stronger classroom culture of acceptance and camaraderie.
  • Several teachers used Edmodo to "flip" their classroom instruction. This framework model has content viewed by the student at home then practice provided in the classroom the next day with the teacher present to provide support as needed.
  • One fifth grade class used Edmodo to partner with a kindergarten class to research animals. The kindergarten class would post their questions and the fifth graders would research their question and post their answers.
  • Edmodo could be used to "flip" a faculty meeting where teachers view/read content prior to the actual meeting to save time, posting questions and concerns on the site.
  • Edmodo could be used as a platform for providing district level information regarding professional development opportunities or training using the Planner and school groups.
  • Edmodo could be used an a viable option for online storage to house frequently used documents, flyers, or programs.

My team is available to provide district level professional development on any software or instructional tool used with students. For Edmodo, I provide two levels of training. Level 1 has participants using Edmodo as a student user to gain insight from that perspective, then we create accounts and practice basic features such a posting comments and exploring groups. Level 2 provides more in-depth training with creating quizzes/polls, accessing the gradebook, using the planner, downloading apps from the Edmodo App Store and more.
Change management was a small part of the implementation and was well-handled
When we implemented our district domain, all users were asked to enter a school-specific code to sync their Edmodo account with the new redirect link. By having one contact person available for information, questions, and concerns, the process was streamlined and efficient.
  • Communication to district personnel about which code to enter during transfer/account setup
Best recommendation is to have one person as the main contact person for all things Edmodo.
  • Self-taught
It was relatively easy to learn on a surface level, but a trainer would be recommended to gain the full impact of Edmodo on instruction.
Edmodo support teams are always ready and available to assist any need requested. If the support personnel does not know the answer, they are excellent in finding someone who can help.
Yes
Absolutely! Edmodo teams are always looking for feedback and directing the response to the necessary department. They are also great about providing updates and resolution status notes.
Shortly after they went through a design overhaul, I could not find an option that would allow me to toggle between my educator and district admin account. Shortly after notifying the Edmodo Support Team, they addressed and fixed the issue in a timely, professional, efficient manner. Their support team is highly recommended for their pleasant nature and willingness to assist in resolving issues.
  • Posting comments
  • Creating quizzes
  • Creating polls
  • Navigating through the app store can be confusing to a new user.
  • Downloading content from the library to a computer.
Yes
It has limitations, so we recommend students use the web version for uploading documents.
The web based version of Edmodo is very user-friendly no matter the age of the user. With a structure similar to Facebook, it has visual appeal as well as easy-to-understand posting structure for comments.

Edmodo is being utilized in a number of classroom settings in both our middle and high schools. Teachers have integrated it on an individual basis as a learning management tool. The district is moving towards a 1:1 technology model, and in preparation, many teachers are experimenting with various platforms, and the implication is that a single one may be chosen for the district in the future.
  • Collaboration between students- I can have students interact in and outside of class using discussion boards, small group settings, messages, etc. Students who would be unlikely to participate in class are far more likely to in this setting, thereby allowing me access to data on their capabilities regardless of their shyness or fear of public speaking.
  • Data collection- Edmodo functions as a digital portfolio. I can access written work, assessments, gradebook entries, and a student's communication with others through this platform, and can archive it from year to year. I can compare students, or improve upon my own teaching with this data.
  • Extending the classroom environment beyond the school day- students have loved the opportunities to communicate with me and others outside of school walls. They can jump on their smart phones on the way into school and check on an assignment. They can shoot me a message if they are absent. I can run my class remotely if I am away for the day. The user interface is friendly and easy to use so students feel comfortable working with it regularly.
  • Formative assessments- the easy access to this platform for quick assessments allows me to immediately improve my teaching based on student needs.
  • Compatibility over many devices- My classroom has an iPad cart, and Edmodo became the way for my students to create content and get it on and off the machine easily. They could use it at home on computers, and on personal smart phones and other devices as well. The free aspect removed any and all barriers to access.
  • The iOS application version needs improvements in functionality. It just doesn't have everything that the web version offers. It has improved substantially this year, but still needs more capacity. I'd like to see it function better with other applications such as Drive.
  • I'd like the assessment feature to be able to be linked to standards for my viewing only. This would better help me utilize data from the assessments to target gaps in student learning.
  • The calendar has improved, but is still a bit hard to navigate, I'd like to see that more streamlined.
There are a few great learning management systems out there. I think Edmodo suits my 8th grade Social Studies classroom well. However, it may not be as appropriate for another subject, or perhaps for older students who need more capacity. I liked the friendly interface for middle school aged kids, but if I was teaching seniors in high school, I might lean more towards a Schoology interface for formality. I think that decision really comes down to personal preference, as the capacities and functionalities are so similar. We have had this debate in my school, and I highly recommend the use of this platform to my peers, but think the use of any similar platform could yield similar results if integrated appropriately into good teaching practice.
  • Faster grading efficiency
  • Better student accountability
  • Better communication with parents through parent access codes
  • Improved student engagement in and outside the classroom
These two platforms are similar. The user interface of Edmodo is just friendlier and more obvious to navigate, however once you are used to either interface, they both are highly functional and improve learning and engagement.
I will absolutely continue using a learning management system such as Edmodo. The only possibility for changing platforms would be to explore any new options released.
