EndNote has proven to be an invaluable tool for researchers and academics, enhancing the efficiency of their research and writing processes by effortlessly managing and formatting references. Users appreciate the software's ability to keep all their references organized in one place, easily sorted into different folders based on topics. This makes it particularly useful for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and professionals in the academic field who need to keep track of a large number of references. EndNote is also highly regarded for its seamless integration with word processors, allowing users to insert bibliographies and references directly into their documents. The software is compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems, making it accessible across multiple devices. Users have praised EndNote's time-saving capabilities when referencing documents and creating citations for major projects and research works, as well as its usefulness in compiling bibliographies during database searches. Additionally, the flexibility of easily changing citation styles and downloading additional styles from the internet has been appreciated by the user community. Overall, EndNote is a trusted and efficient citation management tool that simplifies the process of producing publication-quality documents, saving users valuable time and effort.

Intuitive Interface and Easy Navigation: Many users have praised EndNote for its user-friendly interface, with several reviewers stating that the software's intuitive design and easy navigation make tasks such as managing references and searching for full-text content effortless.

Seamless Integration with Microsoft Word: The integration of EndNote with Microsoft Word is highly valued by users. They find the citation feature within Word to work well, even for lengthy documents, making it easy to organize citations effectively.

Ability to Import References and Sync Across Devices: Users highly value the ability of EndNote to import references from online databases and sync them across multiple devices. This feature allows them to access their references wherever they are working, providing convenience and flexibility in their research process.

Expensive Cost: Many users have expressed dissatisfaction with the high cost of EndNote compared to other reference management software. They feel that the price is not justified by the features and functionality provided.

Lack of Automatic Updating: Some users have mentioned that they would like to see automatic updating of references from online sources in EndNote. This feature would save them time and effort in keeping their references up-to-date.

Difficult Library Recovery: Users have reported difficulties in recovering lost or corrupted libraries in EndNote. These issues can be frustrating and may result in loss of important research data. Improved recovery options would greatly benefit users' overall experience with the software.

Based on user reviews, here are the three most common recommendations for EndNote: consider pricing and compare with other referencing tools; familiarize yourself with the features; explore alternatives and trial period. Other recommendations include diligent organization of article libraries, checking out Mendeley for more features, getting a corporate account if possible, seeking expert training if necessary, and making the most of the trial period to familiarize oneself with the software. These recommendations are based on user reviews and should be considered in conjunction with one's specific needs when evaluating EndNote.

The choice of this kind of software relies on the preference of the end-user. I started using EndNote because my supervisor was using it and said that quite a few people in our field are using it. I purchased through the department's computer administration team and have been using it for many years. I've found EndNote to be very convenient.
  • Literature book-keeping by drag and drop
  • Rich output format selection for bibliography
  • Automatically extracting bibliographic info from the PDF
  • It would be nice if it could automatically update bibliographic info for the paper downloaded.
  • Good reference manual to fully exploit the features
  • Updating number of citations would help a lot
Probably there are many good features in EndNote that I haven't fully explored. It would be nice to have a good manual to show case-by-case tutorials. It also means that the software is rich in features.
  • None
Again, I would like to see a good manual having case-by-case tutorials.

EndNote is part of our package of software that is used throughout the entire organization. This is used by all of our faculty to address multiple issues when it comes to creating and managing data libraries as well as references. This is also used by those performing large research projects within multiple departments.
  • Referencing.
  • Formatting.
  • There have been issues with databases after upgrades but this seems fixed in newer versions.
  • Corrupt libraries after Word upgrade. Again, seems fixed in new versions
EndNote seems to be adept at managing a large number of references in the easiest manner possible. This makes everything very streamlined when it comes to inserting references and creating the actual bibliography. You also have the ability to create rules to help organize and smooth out your workflow so things stay on track.
  • Positive impact on time.
  • Saves us money due to licensing.
Currently have not found any other solutions that address our needs the way that EndNote does. There are many features that are exclusive to EndNote that works for us the way we need it to.
Support seems to be good both on the technical side of the software the actual usage of the software. We have encountered minor as well as some major issues especially during upgrades but were able to work through them very quickly with the help of the support team and this allowed us to stay on track when there have been time crunches.
