  • Scan receipts - a photo can be snapped of any physical receipt and Expensify's SmartScan technology transcribes the details. Digital receipts can be forwarded to receipts@expensify.com or an integration can be used for automatic scanning.

We used Expensify for our expense management & corporate card platform until we found a better & more modern solution that was more cost-effective for my company and also provides a better customer experience than Expensify did for us. We are a mortgage brokerage so it is critical for us to have a system that helps manage business-related expenses for business development & loan operations purposes.
  • User interface is somewhat good
  • Receipt scanning was a neat feature
  • System seems to be regularly updated
  • In my opinion, billing policies are deceptive and inflexible.
  • To me the system is clunky overall. Was hard to figure out how to configure properly
  • My team were not big fans of the report submission process.
I can't think of any scenario where a company should use Expensify in this day & age. There are newcomers to the market which are more feature-filled and far more economical for small businesses (think: free). And it's really hard for me to get beyond their terrible customer service with no accountability, and, in my opinion, their deceptive billing practices.

  • We wound up losing a lot of money with this product, when I believe we could've been saving by using better, free solutions.
We used Expensify first mainly because these other solutions were either brand new or didn't exist at the time. We switched from Expensify to Divvy in late 2021, and could not be happier with them. I'd recommend all small business owners check them out if they need a corporate card and/or expense management platform with great customer service - and it's free!

  • It syncs to QBO well
  • It's easy to reimburse employees timely
  • It's easy to split expenses between departments
  • Smart scan fails too often.
  • It would be great if there was a REQUIRED date of purchase AI recognition.
  • It would be helpful if employees could have designated departments/classes so the expenses would automatically code to the correct department.
  • As an admin user adding approvers to new users seems cumbersome and error-ridden. When I try to add approvers to new employees, often times, the field is blacked out or not even an option.
  • It would be great if we could easily deactivate users without going through multiple steps.
  • I would like to be able to delete reports from the inbox that are old/and not correct instead of having to request the submitter to do so.
  • I can hardly see the buttons on the filters in the inbox and the expenses list.
  • It would be nice to be able to filter by approver.
  • I don't like that user names aren't uniform. Why do some users have their email address as their username, and some people have their actual name (First and Last).
Expensify is helpful in that employees can somewhat easily submit their expenses for reimbursement. I have had several situations where employees are confused by the process of setting up their accounts. I would also like to have reimbursement rules that make it easier for employees to consolidate their expenses onto a single report instead of letting people submit reports for single expenses with reckless abandon or just plain misunderstanding of consolidation options.Why do I need a "Magic Code" and Authenticator code to log in now. It isn't working an is adding too much time just to log in. Highly frustrating.

  • Expensify makes it quick and easy to reimburse employees for their expenses
I've used NetSuite to reimburse employees for expense reports and other manual processes, i.e., spreadsheets or printed reports with paper receipts stapled. I didn't select Expensify as our solution, but it seems good enough.

We set it up to make our lives easier to automate expense reports and track monthly expenses within the restaurant. This was intended to create less work for our management team and easier reporting and access to monthly expenses. This is NOT what we have received.
  • I don't have anything to contribute here
  • In my experience, we have had so many problems within only 3 months of using and still have no resolution despite reaching out to your "support" on a weekly basis. I feel support cannot be bothered to have more than a chat conversation despite continued complex issues that cannot be clearly communicated or resolved via text and require a phone conversation.
  • Keep getting "duplicate" transactions, one showing as a credit card and one as cash. No resolution from previously suggested actions from your "support" team
  • Transactions from a card that is not connected in Expensify are coming through onto a report despite us never integrating or connecting that card on purpose. No resolution for that despite numerous contacts with "support"
  • Negligence of stated features per the contract which I believe you have violated
  • Card transactions from 1 employee's card will show on a different employee's report as a cash transaction.
If I could give a ZERO I would, it only allows me to give a 1. At this point, I feel Expensify has made our lives HARDER not easier. In my experience, I spend more time trying to get solutions from your poor excuse for a support team who refuses to call me after I reached out numerous times for the same issues with no resolution. This is supposed to make things easier and allow us to spend less time on monthly expenses. I have to devote at least 3 hours per week to try and resolve these problems myself and am no further along. I believe Expensify is in violation of the contract we signed and we want OUT.
