Too much data to verify.

FactSet Workstation

Financial estimates from analyst estimates, screening for M&A transactions and capital raises, screening for shareholder rights plans and being able to use the date to complete various analyses. Using FactSet to check financials. We use FactSet often to complete public company analyses is our most likely use cases and is able to quickly do calendar figures even if the company is on an off calendar fiscal year.
  • Market Figures (Stock Price, Ent Value, Equity Value)
  • Rights Plan Data
  • Screening for Selected Data
Cons
  • Often unclear where estimates come from
  • Excel popup for formulas is often difficult to use and glitchy
  • Providing source of data
Often has data where other sources would not have Well suited for large sets of data and analyses on public company data with a lot of public companies, getting the formulas to pull data is very helpful and saves a lot of time. Less appropriate for pulling investor data and co-investment data that PitchBook seems more suited

  • improved time to complete an analysis
  • Often data is incorrect or no source provided
  • Only source we've found to support a rights plan and takeover defense analysis
FactSet is great because it has a plethora of data, so much so that it is often hard to even find a company that I am looking for. However, sometimes this can make it more difficult than normal because you need to sift through tons of data. The webpage often glitches out.
PitchBook is better for private company data and getting contacts. It is also more useful for capital raises and data
AlphaSense is great for more targeted searches which FactSet is very bad at. FactSet often makes it hard to do searches and then once you get to a specific company you need to continue searching through all of the tabs
75
We use FactSet for a number of different purposes: quick and easy public data pulls, market information, and other KPI / financial statistics in excel. We use Factset in PowerPoint as well for active graphs and other shortcuts. FactSet is a great centralized source for all financial information, earnings dates, and even the most random requests that we get, such as doing righs plan analyses
N/A
  • Real time data
  • Active graph charting
  • M&A / Financial buyer screens
  • Rights Plan Data
  • KPI pulls
  • News alerts
  • More robust financial screening
We need the FactSet data and capabilities to complete 75% of the financial analyses that we complete for both internal and external purposes. It is invaluable and I am not aware of any other provider that would be able to fill this gap that FactSet does
No
  • Scalability
  • Ease of Use
Scalability -- analysts across offices can utilize the same workstation and formulas across desks, workbooks and project and be able to seamlessly collaborate on things. It is fairly easy to use once you get the hang of it, so our older employees are also able to dabble in the workstation when they want to
Would not change. Did not switch from anything... Factset was already in use when i joined the organization
