What is Fieldwire?

Fieldwire is a mobile-first (iPad / iPhone, Android) collaboration platform designed for construction foremen, superintendents and engineers. The application allows field workers to access up-to-date information like blueprints, files and tasks directly on their mobile device. Fieldwire focuses on the effective collaboration of field workers around three core use cases: Plan viewing & versioning; Issue tracking; Task management & scheduling. The collaboration platform is structured around plans and trades allowing users to create tasks attached to specific locations on plans as well as add comments, photos and annotations in each of them. Tasks are automatically uploaded to a centralized server (for automatic archiving and reporting) and dispatched to the other members on the project through wifi and cellular network. Fieldwire works both offline and online allowing users to continue working in conditions where little or no network connectivity is available.

My experience using Fieldwire

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Fieldwire as a tool to take field measurements and take photos. The biggest problem it is solving on our industry is being able to document the field measurements with relevant photos of the existing condition under same task.

Pros

  • Categorizing the Tasks
  • Dropping as many pins as needed to take measurements and attach photos and videos
  • Easily upload the relevant plans and it creates hyperlink for the relevant sections and details

Cons

  • Editing on Scribble with phone is very difficult and if I don't save it at least once, my work is lost, and I have to redo it.
  • When I forget to put the name of the task, it itself puts the comment I inserted as the title. I would like it to notify me somehow
  • Fieldwire acts weird with ipad sometimes. If the plan is rotated while uploading and I use that plan to take photo in the site, I need to keep on rotating my tablet (a total of 3 times) to take photo. Still, the uploaded photo turns out to be upside down on computer.

Return on Investment

  • It has made office work very easy
  • It is good ROI
