What is Figma?

Figma is a design platform that aims to bring together powerful design features you already love and a more efficient workflow. Some features include:
  • A modern pen tool: Draw in any direction with Vector Networks. No more merging or needing to connect to the path's original point.
  • Instant arc designs: Design clocks, watch screens, or pie charts with the Arc tool.
  • Be expressive with OpenType: Tap into advanced font features to fully express the brand.

Figma's Autom Layout tool helps users spend more time iterating and less time moving things around.
  • Less manual resizing: Buttons can resize with their text and lists can rearrange themselves when items are moved around.
  • Stretch to fill: Auto Layout components can now stretch left and right (or top and bottom) for easier responsive design.
  • Design speaks development: Auto Layout’s padding, direction, and spacing settings translate directly into code, simplifying developer handoffs.

Its plugins help to remove manual, repetitive work, bring in data, and power custom workflows.
  • Plugins for everything: Stock imagery, flow diagrams, color accessibility, charts, and icons.
  • Designed for ease: A user that can build a website can build a plugin.
  • Private plugins: Organization customers can create and distribute private plugins within their company.

Create prototypes that are like the real experience

Figma helps turn static design files into an interactive experience—no coding required.
  • Intuitive build: Simply connect UI elements and choose your interactions and animations.
  • Interactions: Define subtle interactions, like on click, while hovering, while pressing a button.
  • Mobile-viewing: Experience designs in real life using our Figma mobile app, available for iOS and Android.
  • Advanced transitions with Smart Animate: Automagically animate similar objects and create detailed transitions.
  • Dynamic overlays: Create multiple layers of interactive content overlays.
  • Animated GIFs: Use GIFs to represent motion designs, video elements, and subtle animations.
  • All-in-one platform: Toggle between a design file and live prototype. Design edits appear instantly in a prototype.
  • Shareable prototype: Share a link to your prototype. View it anywhere with Internet.
  • Embedded commenting: Comment in a prototype. They carry over into the design file—so nothing gets lost.
Figma is available online as a SaaS, and it can be downloaded for WIndows, or MacOS. Figma is also available via a mobile app for iOS and Android.

Best UX Tool

We use Figma for UI/UX designing and prototyping. Our business uses Figma as part of the product development cycle for new software. Our UX designers use the tool to create initial wireframes, finalized UX designs and prototypes. The designs are then used by our development teams to develop the frontend UI for our product. Verifiers also use the designs verification of the frontend development.
  • UX designs
  • Prototyping
  • Collaboration
  • The ability to create components so updates can be made once instead of multiple times
  • Requires time to learn how to use it
  • Can be difficult to correctly layer objects
Figma is great for UX designs and prototyping. The tool is really helpful for frontend developers and verifiers too.

Figma is not great for quick workflows or brainstorming activities. Miro is much better suited and easier to use for the common user for this type of task.
  • More accurate development
  • Faster collaboration
  • Better designs after review of prototypes
Figma is great to use once you learn it, but there is a steep learning curve.

Figma is used in the following ways
1. Creating web UI designs for different products
2. Creating mobile UI designs for different products
3. Creating presentation artwork
4. Creating prototypes for different features
5. Create small artwork for various purposes
6. Creating GIFs (with the help of additional add-on) to be used within the products

It also serves as a one-stop destination to collaborate with the design team.
  • Prototyping
  • UI Design
  • Rapid wireframes
  • Better integration with other apps
  • Collaboration
  • Export work
Figma is the best for collaboration with the designer. I can go to a specific section and tag the designer to make changes/edits, however, there is scope for improvement here, for e.g. if the designer made any changes to a frame, I should be able to compare both. It is also so easy to use that if a designer is not available that I can easily edit text and other small details.
  • Design
  • Prototyping
  • Collaboration
  • More professional prototyping
  • One stop destination for collaterals
  • Finding a screen is not easy
Yes definitely, it is way easier to use and has way better collaboration compared to Adobe Illustration and Sketch. Figma has better integration with the development team as it can export code and maintain assets as well.

Another big upside of Figma is prototyping, since the designs are created on Figma it is easier to create click-through prototyping instead of exporting to another application.

There are two main supports needed, one is administration to add/remove users and the other is a designer who can organize the files.

Figma supports us to design the entire product flow seamlessly and is also very easy to use and adapt to it when someone new starts using it. Very user-friendly to learn which will resolve the challenges when any organization adapts to Figma as their new tool for design. Also ease of access and sharing to others is very user-friendly and addresses the challenges of sharing the designs.
  • Ease of design
  • Flexible to share with restricted and controlled access
  • Ease to learn and adapt
  • Loading time is high which can be reduced
Ease of use is the major benefit and the only main challenge which I see is the loading time of the Figma design which it takes when its content is huge.
  • Design & Prototype
  • Ease of Use
Ease of Use and Cost Benefit is comparatively high in Figma which is not available in others.

We are a startup and so currently there are only two people using it in our team, one of them is me. I personally found the product very useful and very easy to use and easy to learn. Obviously, this is a UI design tool, so we used it to design our beautiful UI which is currently under deployment. It was very easy to learn, I was able to learn it within 3-5 days.
  • UI Design
  • Collaboration for designing.
  • Using third-party plugins while designing.
  • Pen tool in it so easy to use that you can make icons in it so easily.
  • With the canvas sizes it supports, there should be more options available directly instead of creating it custom.
  • Their preview window, preview is different in terms of size compared to actual deployment.
  • They should include some guided tutorials and best-practices for new designers.
If you want to create a UI design quickly and don't have much knowledge specifically for using any tool for UI Design, Figma is best-suited. Its basic version is free, so you can first learn it like a pro, and then if you like you can purchase it. It's available for all the platforms as it has a web version that can be directly accessed by your browser. Also, it has preview apps for android and ios. Figma has tutorials on their website but they are somewhat not for basic users, so I'll recommend Figma to create some.
  • Easy to use
  • Fast and Light-weight
  • Collaboration
  • It's a design tool that is so-inexpensive so the ROI has been good.
  • I was able to create beautiful UI with my team without much hassle.
  • It's the best compared to the other popular tools available both in terms of features and pricing, so I preferred it and the decision was excellent.
  • Adobe XD
Figma can be accessed on all the platforms. Be it Windows, Mac or Linux, or whatever as it can be accessed via web browser so it was a very useful feature for collaboration. While it's the competition like Sketch is only available on Mac and Adobe XD is available on Windows and Mac through software but can't be accessed via a web browser.
Adobe Premiere Pro, Webflow, OpenShot Video Editor, Bitwarden, Microsoft Visual Studio Code, PyCharm, Atom, Microsoft Powerpoint, Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Lucidspark, Semrush, Ubersuggest, Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Microsoft Excel, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dashlane, NordVPN, ExpressVPN, ProtonVPN, Wix, WordPress, Yoast Wordpress SEO Plugins, Divi, Elementor
It's so simple to use! I have no background in UI design but basic designing and I was able to learn this software Figma within 3-5 days. There are tons of tutorials available on Youtube from so many popular YouTubers in the space, you can just go through them and start designing.
  • Designing using it.
  • Collaboration
  • Using plugins within it to find icons and stuff.
  • Placement of icons and making them stay there.
Yes, but I don't use it
