Users rely on FileZilla to ensure the safe transfer of sensitive information, making it an essential tool for businesses that deal with confidential data. The software also serves as a valuable solution for web developers, allowing them to verify and move code within websites, address FTPS protocols, and test finished products across different browsers.

One of the standout features of FileZilla is its ability to save credentials for multiple sites, which users greatly appreciate. This convenience makes it suitable for both small and large downloads, as well as site migration. Additionally, FileZilla offers a seamless experience for managing files by providing features like file backups, navigating between client files, and performing various FTP actions such as copying, deleting, transferring, and editing files.

FileZilla is widely trusted by individuals and organizations alike for its secure FTP exchanges with third-party vendors. It also serves as the default FTP client in some organizations, facilitating quick file transfers between local machines and client servers. The user-friendly interface of FileZilla grants remote users access to important files, making it an ideal solution for remote work scenarios or granting access to team members who are not physically present in the same location. Freelance developers particularly appreciate FileZilla's reliability, security, low learning curve, and ease of use. We use Filezilla across the whole organization. We've found it to be a very reliable and secure FTP/SFTP tool. Sometimes we use web-based FTP services but FileZilla is free, fast, secure, and has a great user-friendly interface. It has a very low learning curve as well. We have new users that learn to use it quickly, and we have experienced users of 20 years that use it with advanced features. Overall, I've never had any complaints or issues with FileZilla and I'd recommend it highly.
  • Very easy to use, low learning curve.
  • Lots of options when it comes to connection choices, ie FTP/SFTP/SSH/SSL, etc.
  • Smooth updates, never have to fear an update crashing the software.
  • None yet!
I'd recommend FileZilla all around, whether it's by a home end-user or an employee of a thousand-plus corporation, that's how versatile it is. Possibly the only scenario where it might cause a problem is if the user is not admin-level, therefore the user won't be able to install updates, but there might be workarounds in that scenario.
  • Secure
  • Lightweight, small program.
  • Well supported and often updated.
  • Positive impact on ROI as it's free.
  • No negative impact on ROI.
We've used mostly either command-line FTP programs built-in to the operating systems, or we've used web-based file transfer sites. Some of these web-based sites might require Java or other specific browser addons, which sometimes are not safe and/or can be hacked, so it's much safer and more convenient to use FileZilla instead for all file transfer purposes.

I use FileZilla in my organization to transfer secure files to our retirement association on a biweekly basis as part of our payroll processing. Using the FileZilla software helps address the requirement of quickly providing multiple secure files from our agency to outside agencies. I can see which files were successfully transferred and are available for the recipient.

  • Quick uploads
  • Interface update
  • Email integration
  • Email notification
FileZilla is well suited to transferring multiple files securely to recipients outside of our agency. I can choose to send files to various recipients, and once I input the credentials once, they are saved for the future. A drawback is that I have to inform the recipients that the files have been transferred, so they know to look out for them.
  • Secure uploads
  • Quick transfers
  • Transfer multiple files at once
  • Saved time
  • Worry free secure transfers
  • Low cost to implement
Both perform the job they are expected to do, and they are easy to use. The FileZilla software is a desktop-based app, so I can only access it on the device on which it was installed. Cisco Secure Email allows you to send emails as you would normally, but the email and attachments are secure.

We use FileZilla as a secure FTP service so our clients don't have to email sensitive documents.
  • Easy to install and configure
  • No startup fees
  • Easy to manage users and shares in one location
  • Some client's have complained about installing the client side app
  • There is no express deployment option for clients where they can click on an inhouse made executable file to install
  • It would be nice if there was a web interface for clients instead of a local install only.
Once the server and client are installed and configured it is a great program. If a file is interrupted during the transfer the program has an option to pick up the transfer where it left off. This is huge because often we are dealing with massive files. It would be nice if there was a web interface option.
  • secure FTP transfer
  • No setup fee or monthly fees
  • Minimal hardware / software requirements to run the program.
  • Allowed us to reduce software costs
  • Once configured it is easy for end users to transfer files thus reducing security issues and emails from clients
  • Reduced overall costs by streamlining the document collection process
It really comes down to ease of use and cost. FileZilla blows away the competition in both categories

I've used FileZilla for many years for accessing servers with FTP. I am so angry that they now bundle their free version with spyware/adware that acts as a "web safety" software. After installing I found that Web Companion by Lavasoft and the Web Safety Chrome extension was installed in my programs (this is a custom-built PC, so it didn't come with any bloatware). It took me a while to remove the new default search engines with affiliate codes that were added and narrow down the culprit to FileZilla.
  • Trick you into installing unwanted programs
  • There isn't even an option to deselect it
  • Don't include adware anymore
If you want to screw up your browser default settings and have your privacy violated, install FileZilla.
  • FileZilla serves as an example to find a better FTP application
  • Wasted time uninstalling spyware/adware

FileZilla is used by certain individuals who have a need to securely upload / download files via SFTP to authorized third party sites / vendors. The problem it solves for is the need to securely transfer files that contain personally identifiable information and other private data, versus using something like email or web form uploads.
  • Very easy to use
  • Secure
  • Great logging
  • Wish I could upgrade without the need for admin rights
  • Sometimes times out too quickly
  • Wish I could reveal the passwords I have saved
I use FileZilla to securely upload files that are not permitted to be sent via insecure methods like email or web forms. FileZilla is great to test the ability to "reach" the remote SFTP server and to verify my files arrived. Once I have tested that, then our internal IT group automates the uploads to these third parties, however I can always manually log into FIleZilla to verify the uploads.
  • SFTP
  • Ease of use
  • Free
  • I dont have hard numbers, but we would be very unlikely to switch to another FTP client.
I have used products like CuteFTP and found them clunky and not as easy to use.
