We mostly use GoFundMe for disaster relief and special needs funding. It is a great platform for us to share a message of what our needs are and how much we support we are looking for. This is used across the whole organization and allows us to include marketing materials for a call of action. This addresses time management for us, whereas with other platforms we are required to put in more time to manage reports and payments.
  • Call of action marketing
  • Progress thermometer or meter
  • Great place for comments by donors
  • Stricter accountability for legitimacy.
GoFundMe is well suited for personal appeals where a story can be told and donors feel an immediate result or effect. It is less appropriate for larger mass appeals that are not targeted directly to a specific cause. For example, not good for companies to ask for funding for operating expenses.
  • Brought in new donors from outside our solicitation area.
  • Appeals to younger audiences.
  • Great way to include client testimonials and stories.
We chose GoFundMe primarily because it is a well-known name, and although there have been some donors questioning the legitimacy of our account, for the most part, donors trust this site and enjoy seeing the impact of donations collectively. Other platforms would also work just as well but we did some research before choosing GoFundMe and our entire team felt it was the best choice.
So far, I have not had any issues through our corporate account so this is not something I'm too familiar with yet. However, as a donor to other appeals, I've had technical issues and contacted support. They were incredibly supportive and solved my issues immediately. Our team has been able to launch several appeals or requests for funding locally and everything went very smoothly for us.
GoFundMe is very easy to use and does a great job allowing us to share insights and stories to leave a lasting impression on donors. From setting up the account to ending the appeal, the entire process has been very user-friendly. I'm very impressed with the experience so far and plan to continue using it for future campaigns.

We use Crowdrise as a peer-to-peer software and to set up certain fundraising pages. It has helped us raise thousands of dollars for our students in Kenya and has been a useful tool for our supporters to set up their own page. It allows supporters to set up their own page and does a lot of the communication and background work that we don't have to.
  • Peer-to-peer fundraising
  • Fundraising pages
  • The fees can be a little higher for small non-profits.
  • I wish there was more customization with their follow up emails.
Crowdrise is great for small non-profits who do not have full-time staff to do the accounting work. It works well for those charities that are looking to get others involved and raise their own money. It has a very easy setup process and it's obvious that they are fully invested in helping all kinds of non-profits.
  • It has helped us raise thousands of dollars that we wouldn't have otherwise.
  • No negative ROI
Crowdrise is very similar to Classy and some of the other products we have used. The benefits are their fee guarantee and how easy the set up process is. They have many different features and seem to have more customization ability than some of its competitors. We've gone back and forth but have found Crowdrise to be slightly better with customization.
Crowdrise has been great with their customer support. They have always been helpful and available. They also have several resources on their website that has been useful to other areas of our non-profit. Their relatability has been positive for us and has made us feel taken care of and considered.

We currently use CrowdRise/GFM for the NYRR Half Marathon as a charity partner. It is being used exclusively by the development department (development manager and executive director). It was chosen for us by the company organizing charity partner fundraising for the half-marathon. it addresses event registration, fundraising, peer-to-peer fundraising, website direction, and includes thermometers/fundraising visualizations.
  • Registration.
  • Fundraising visuals.
  • Need a clearer picture of your campaign status, especially around publishing (making it live).
  • Processing rates are not horrible but not great either - If we used our own processor our fees would be cut in half.
If you are looking for basic campaign management software, CrowdRise/GFM would work pretty well for you. Once you know how to work all the functions, it is easy to customize your campaign, integrate with Salesforce (I can't speak to other CRM integrations but I assume there are some) and invite people to join your campaign either through a direct link or social media. If you want a more robust peer-to-peer platform, I'd say GFM can get you about 50% of the way there before you'll need something more in-depth.
  • Positive - When the platform upgraded our previous campaigns were available.
  • Negative - Internal UX/UI should be clearer regarding stage of campaign publishing.
Since GFM was selected for us I can't give the rationale behind that. However, I do think that Qgiv and Salsa are more internally user-friendly and provide at least the same amount of functionality. That being said, the other two (I think) require CRMs to use whereas GFM can just integrate with others, making it a better choice for one-off campaigning.
So far support has not answered my questions regarding publishing the campaign or why we do not appear in relevant searches, so I can't give it a good rating.
