What is GoodData?

GoodData is a cloud-based data and analytics platform, bringing AI-fueled data-driven decision-making to organisations across the globe. With a platform that leverages the potential of automation and AI, GoodData empowers its customers to make data analytics available to end users via real-time, self-service data insights right at the point of work. The vendor states that over 140,000 businesses and 3.2 million users rely on GoodData to drive meaningful change and achieve more through data.

GoodData’s AI-accelerated platform is built around four key pillars: simplicity, flexibility, productivity, and scalability. It enables companies of all sizes, from SMBs to enterprises, to:

  • Empower users to autonomously explore data and create AI-infused interactive dashboards and charts via a no-code UI. AI-powered features like NLQ to drive faster insights and faster decisions.
  • Launch customised analytics anywhere their users need it in the way they’re used to. With plug-and-play integrations, low-code/no-code tools, and flexible embedding options, organisations can deliver analytics to users.
  • Enable their analytics engineers and BI teams to collaborate with code. GoodData’s “Analytics-as-Code” philosophy empowers analytics builders to boost efficiency with code-based automation, developer tools, and blueprints — letting them fully leverage software engineering workflows and ultimately create analytics environments even faster.
  • Ensure trust in their data, from source to dashboard. GoodData’s semantic layer and suite of security and governance features enable comprehensive testing, validation, and monitoring for consistent, accurate, and secure data, regardless of where it is consumed.
  • Dynamically scale their analytics to accommodate increases in data volume, end users, and business partners. Through its multi-tenant architecture, GoodData enables organisations to distribute personalised analytics instances to teams, partners, or customers, while advanced caching delivers lighting performance and keeps cloud data warehouse costs low.

I have used all softwares in my past 10 years of experience. GoodData stands out with its seamless data integration, advanced predictive analytics, and collaborative features. Unlike Tableau and Power BI, GoodData offers scalable solutions with a user-friendly interface for self-service BI. Its mobile accessibility and embedded analytics enhance flexibility, making it a comprehensive choice for businesses seeking robust and adaptable business intelligence and analytics platforms

Choosing between GoodData and other platforms was clear for me as the superiority of GoodData over others due to our needs. GoodData stands out for its awesome dashboards, robust predictive analytics, reports, and analysis. Data integration helps us for business intelligence solutions. The platform excels in providing actionable insights, making it a preferred choice for us and people like us who seek a dynamic and responsive analytical environment.

GoodData stands out for its seamless integration and scalability, excelling in providing comprehensive analytics solutions. I have used Power BI in past which impresses with Microsoft integration and user-friendly features. Tableau is renowned for its robust data visualization capabilities. Based on our specific business needs, preferences, and the desired depth of analytics functionality. We chose GoodData.

Tableau is fantastic for visuals, and Zoho Analytics is user-friendly, but GoodData takes the cake with its seamless integration and powerful analytics. It stacks up well because it's not just about pretty graphs but it's about making data work for you. It's the perfect fit for our needs, user-friendly like Zoho, visually impressive like Tableau, but with that extra punch in analytics. GoodData has become our go-to because it makes data not just understandable but actionable as well.

GoodData is best among every other platform I used because it's a cloud based platform and way to easy to use. Its robust predictive analytics and unified data view set it way apart. While Power BI and Tableau excel in visualization, GoodData's focus on comprehensive business intelligence, user engagement analytics, and revenue optimization which made it a strong choice for our organization seeking a holistic analytics solution.

GoodData was more cost effective and did not necessitate additional spend on internal resources. The end user interface was easy to use and did not require additional set up or customization. The clients required little support from the Prometric staff to use the product.

I was involved in the decision making but not final decision maker. Ease of implementation for GoodData vs Cognos (used for 15 years in multiple companies). I think Tableau's visualizations are better, but there is much that just can't be done in Tableau that GoodData handles really well, like complex data models, sourcing from multiple platforms, performance, data volume. There are features I miss having from Cognos in GoodData, but modeling is easier in GoodData. Initially I wasn't sure how the RLOAP would play out vs the OLAP, but GoodData is easier to scale I think in that sense and you don't have to keep rebuilding a physical data cube. It took a little getting used to and definitely there are things I think they could do better, but as a platform we've used for the last 8 years, it has served us well.

GoodData's advantage in real-time data processing compared to Power BI can be attributed to several factors:
  • Immediate Data Insights
  • Better Handling of High-Velocity Data:
  • Integration with Real-Time Data Sources:

Looker and GoodData are both powerful BI platforms, but they have distinct strengths. Looker offers seamless integration with Google Sheets, enabling easy data import and analysis. On the other hand, GoodData excels in data modeling, providing a user-friendly interface for creating robust data models quickly. This ease of use makes GoodData an ideal choice for organizations seeking efficient data modeling and analysis capabilities.

In GoodData we really liked the fact that sales and engineering were on our side from the beginning, the calls were very easy to book and were efficient with clear agenda and participants. We also got invited on Slack were we had support from the team and also we liked the pricing model because it fitted our needs.

GoodData can handle the large data sets without the use of a Data Warehouse. But it is expensive compared to its competitors. We also use and like Power BI and TARGIT dashboards as well.

All platforms have great features and strengths, but I particularly enjoyed the ease of use of the GoodData platform. Most tools like Tableau and Power BI have a bit of a learning curve, but GoodData was simple and easy from the start.

I wasn't involved in the process to decide on GoodData but for our purposes GoodData is more robust than the other two and we needed that to build our LDM in a robust, reliable and scalable way

I actually investigated around 20 options and in most part the embedding + multi tenant mode that became a key concern. They either do not have the support or the price scaling is terrible or the startup cost is prohibitive.
On the average startup cost is around 50k per year and that is the bare minimal with no addon which is not usable, or the scaling in pricing is based off per users. So if I you are running a SaaS business that charge per user 15 dollars a month, if you just want to show one graph through embedding, it might cost you 10 dollars per user. This might make sense if you provide only power users with that option and charge a premium for it but in my scenario my motivation is to democratize the data. That itself makes it commercial not viable to have a cost structure like this.
