We used ARCore for developing AR mobile games, more specifically android mobile games. Our primary game development engine is Unity and ARCore has perfect integration with that. It's very easy to get up and running. Among different business problems that ARCore solves the top for me would have to be the demonstration of products to the user using AR. It raises sales and is very useful to convince users to click that buy button.
  • It understands the surroundings very well as it maps it around the user.
  • It understands the users' relative position in terms of the surroundings and tracks the users' movements.
  • It can sense the surrounding lighting and overlay that on top of the AR objects to make it more immersive.
  • Scanning objects can definitely be improved. It can take a long time to scan sometimes which is unfriendly to the user.
  • Can benefit from vulkan rendering
  • Scanning accuracy can be improved
  • More features needed to be added like body tracking
ARCore is well suited for demonstrating 3D objects on surfaces that could be used mostly in product sales, real estate. It can be used to measure objects or a room to make a 3D architectural model out of it, although it's not 100% accurate it can give a pretty good idea. It can be used for games and marketing reasons ARCore is less appropriate for human body tracking, occlusion, and large-scale augmentation where there needs to be a large-scale scanning.
  • Unity game engine extension
  • Positional awareness
  • Surroundings scanning
  • More sales
  • More users want to try the technology
  • Informed sales and happy customers
Vuforia Engine has limited functionalities compared to ARCore. It has image-based detection and augmentation which requires users to have the anchor image with them for the augmentation to properly occur. ARCore solves that and it's one step less to reach the user and really convince them to try it.

We had one project in our organization to render a 3D model on physical objects in the museum. We have to develop that in Android and iOS platforms so we decided to choose ARCore for Android and ArKit for iOS devices. The reason we choose that is for their various functions and continuous updates by Google.
  • It's used for plane detection, object detection, etc.
  • It's used to render 3D models of objects on [a] plane.
  • By using their lights and environment functions we can develop [a] realistic environment around [a] 3D object.
  • It supports less Android devices which is major problem.
  • Sometimes it takes time for plane or surface detection.
If you want to render a 3D object with light estimation and plane detection then [you'll] surely use this.
  • Object detection
  • Model rendering
  • Light estimations
  • It helps to make your 3D app more realistic
  • It's better than other tools for rendering on app smoothness
We want object detection and rendering of 3D models. Many SDK do this task but Google ARCore is Google's own product and it has many nice features too.
  • no training

Google ARCore is the best tool to start the AR journey for any product. This is being majorly used by technology and product teams in our organization. For end-product use and testing, we also get people from marketing teams to use it. But primarily this is for developers and product managers.
  • Auto plane identification
  • Light and shadow detection
  • Anchoring things in augmented reality
  • Depth sensing can be improved
  • Human body detection is not great
  • For large scale virtual objects, it slows down
It is well suited for small objects in home/office or familiar surroundings to anchor Augmented Reality Objects. It works well for most e-commerce use cases, travel use cases, games, etc. It is not well suited where depth occlusion is the primary use case or human body anchoring is required or even for large-scale AR use cases.
  • E-commerce product catalog optimization
  • AR-assisted live guidance to customers
  • It has helped improve our client conversion rate
  • Increased customer satisfaction and winning customers from competition
  • Decreases TAT from consideration to ordering
Though Google ARCore has fewer results in github repository as compared to ARKit, it still has a more stable platform and better documentation to make the development process easy. One can do experiments very quick and easy with ARCore to try out various features. Amazon Sumerian is not yet there as compared to ARCore.
