Google Cloud Storage is being used across multiple departments of our organization for storing, managing, and sharing documents, reports, and files. It helps reduce the number of emails, especially attachments to be sent over email, also helps keep everything organized. We give access to team members appropriately and manage the visibility of certain files between departments and teams.
  • Sharing is easy across team members
  • Organizing everything into sections and folders
  • Flexibility of archives when needed
  • In tool editions to files is not very flexible, so sometimes we have to download, make editions and upload again.
  • The archive can get messy after a long time of use and difficult to reference old objects.
  • I would like to see them start using tags so data can be found more easily
Big data projects, with multiple touch-points and files to store, that need to be shared across departments, is the best use for Google Cloud Storage. Buckets help store your data safely, and the security level is unmatched since Google manages it. It's very flexible and responds to multiple programming languages, reducing the learning curve for teams in case of transitions.
  • storage space
  • types of data it can store
  • flexibility of organizing by type
  • The tool made it easy for storing and using objects.
  • It makes it faster to share and find objects and saves time.
  • They are impacted and improved efficiency by making it possible to have everything in one place.

Google Cloud Storage has been experiencing less technical issues and is more straight forward to use, for our technical team, it saves training time by having a straight forward help and FAQ section. We needed very little training, as opposed to previously used other tools where we had a team visit us to help with the setup and in house training.

Data services team uses Google Cloud Storage frequently to store their data, as well as our engineering team uses it in connection with the data services team to transfer, connect to other data sources and to feed to different reporting tools. Some of our analysts use the tool for report storage and archiving.

I think it's a smaller team of a few team members about ten who were trained and have knowledge on the specific set up and details of the team, especially how it works with our specific accounts. Other then our in house team there are a few contractors who know the tool and are there for support, if the issue is not serious enough to contact the tool support.
  • storage
  • archive
  • organization
  • I am not aware of any new ways other than listed
  • Just specific ways to store out business specific information
  • I think some of the organization we do is custom but I wouldn't call it innovative
  • eventually expanding storage
  • we should be able to use some tracking method to make sure information is not lost
  • there's a recovery from archive that we use frequently that may be expanded
after all of the investment made in the tool and considering how many teams use it I think we would not be likely to move away from this tool. A lot of our information including historical is already here and we are happy with the capabilities of the tool currently.

  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
Product features are probably most important considering the amount of information we were ready to store there and the number of teams involved in the process . It was also important that the tool is easy to use relatively so that our teams are easily trained for future support to act as a back up to the support team that Google is providing.
I wouldn't change anything as I think most of the information I provided in my review is still accurate. There are not many changes that happened since I started the review and Google is a slow moving organization when it comes to change, however I am expecting new and exciting additions to this tool specifically that will make it more useful to our organization.
  • Implemented in-house
Change management was minimal
in the beginning of the implementation it was planned in a way where teams were working on it together and our teams got to learn as they were helping with the implementation so there was minimal challenge in change management and we didn't feel any significant issues. the transition was seamless and did not affect the teams in any major way.
  • training
  • customizing for our organization
  • some data was lost and recovered later
overall I was not directly involved but hears the teams were satisfied with the implementation. the teams that used the tool did not encounter major issues, it was as expected with minor issues and bugs that were resolved later. The more significant learning curve was actually starting to use the tool.
Our team had a great experience with the help and support team. We have been able to resolve the few issues over the phone, had one in house visit by a professional to help us with a specific implementation issue that was custom to our back end. Other than this, almost all information is available online.
I was not directly involved in the process of decision making for this tool and for the purchase of the support, however I know our company has purchased the full support package and has been happy with the level of support we are getting, although sometimes it may seem a little challenging considering the specifics that are in our business and the support partners have to learn. Otherwise overall we are satisfied by the level of support.
No
we had to contact the support team on an occasion where some of the data was lost and did not connect with the data source as expected. I think it was a standalone and a one time issue only, happened only once and the support team did some work on their end to move data from archive and validate that it was populating correctly.
Google cloud storage usability is pretty straight forward for team members who are used to using similar tools. It has an easy interface of course with some training needed for people who are going to use it daily. Overall there is plenty of material and information available online if needed both from Google directly and third party websites.
  • connection with app is useful
  • interface is clean and easy to use
  • functionality flow is well defined
  • archiving is not that straight forward
  • there are some limitations for custom processes
  • tagging to find information easily
Yes, but I don't use it

We use the Google Cloud Storage in the most diverse technology projects, software development and also in data analysis projects. It is one of the many solutions that Google Cloud Platform offers and is used by the technology and data science department. The GCS helps us deliver high quality solutions when there is a requirement for data storage in the cloud.
  • High performance, durability and disponibility.
  • One and robust API.
  • Bucket management is very complicated. When you have a ton of files, the UI/UX makes you suffer a lot.
  • Some settings, like make 'public files' is not intuitive to setup on the interface.
The Google Cloud Storage works well with other products of Google. It's well suited for use in software solutions that needs a cloud storage solution. However, for some problems that need different types of data, like not structured data, I recommend a Datastore/Firestore solution. If you are dealing with messages data, Google Cloud Storage maybe not be the best solution.
  • Priced in local currency - saving some money.
The big difference against other competitors that offer a Cloud storage solution, is the fact that Google Cloud Storage and other Google Cloud Platform products are billed in the local currency. This fact saves a lot of money because in some countries we have to pay for additional taxes when you used a platform or tool billed in Dollars.
We'll not change the cloud storage solution, because Google Cloud Storage is the best for now. (GCS doesn't have the best price, but considering the local currency, it does).
