What is Google Hangouts (Classic)?
Google Hangouts is a communication platform that includes messaging, voice, VoIP, and video call capabilities. This platform is part of Google’s G Suite offering and integrates with applications such as Gmail and Google+. Pricing for G Suite plans range from $5-$25 per user per month.
Callers can use Hangouts to:
- Start a chat conversation or video call.
- Make phone calls using Wi-Fi or data.
- Send text messages with a Google Voice or Google Fi phone number.
Hangouts sync automatically across devices. Hangouts started on a computer, can continue with chat on another device, like a phone.
- In March 2017, Google announced plans to evolve classic Hangouts to focus on two experiences designed to help bring teams together: Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet. Both Chat and Meet are available for G Suite customers and will be made available for consumer users as well. Google is planning to transition users from classic Hangouts to Chat and Meet after June 2020.

- Positive: Easy of use so frequently used
- Positive: part of g-suite bundle
- Negative: certain needs (webinars, large group meetings) don't function well in hangouts so other tools needed ($)

A great product for its time!
- Allowed quick communication between staff where a formal email is not required saving money on internal phones
- Has now been disabled on Google Workspace for Education so training required to enable staff to use Google Chat and Meet
- Prior to Chat, it had a positive impact by allowing students to contact their teachers for free during remote learning.
- It’s free and informal, so the cost is not an issue
- It doesn’t interact with O365, so as a disparate tool, it can be problematic
- It is ubiquitous so it is Android friendly and iOS friendly

A great tool for instant messaging, not much more.
- Improved internal communications
- Reduced unnecessary emailing
- Reduced response wait time
- Communicate effectively saves tons of time & cost for emailing back and forth
- When on-field staff is outside of office, it is easy to video call them
- Does not require installation, can be used in any browser which saves time for IT

Pretty good deal
- Easy integration for users.
- Negative for employees as clients always have access to them.
- Projects completed faster due to a bridge in communication.

- As it is built into the subscription fee for Google for Business, it is quite inexpensive, offering a very high ROI vs. buying many Zoom accounts for our employees

A tool of the past
- I believe it was part of the google suite that was purchased. It was worth the cost as it was cheaper. I believe it is now free, but also becoming deprecated. It is much better to use Teams, Discord, Telegram, etc. Google does not provide enough support or features to make using hangouts worth it these days.

Google Hangouts- Simple Solution for Quick Communication
- Simple chat interface
- Can create groups or just message individually
- Get iOS, Chrome extension, web, and Android user interface
- Usage of this tool has made it possible to get much quicker answers for customer questions, resulting in the ability to increase customer sales enormously
- Cost of the tool is basically nonexistent, so any improvement is pretty great
- Having a searchable reference for scheduling constraints, special accomodations needed for customers, or really any such information, has made it far easier to schedule customer appointments, thereby increasing overall sales and gross.
