It is very important to have a fast-loading website so the visitor can get what they are seeing fast. Everyone's time is limited and patience isn't as strong as it used to be, so serving the visitors fast is key. This is just like going through a drive-thru window and you have to wait 10 minutes for your food. Once you understand the bottlenecks of the website you can work on them from desktop and laptop.
  • Desktop and mobile analysis
  • Easy to read results
  • Helpful tips to improve performance
  • PDF reports
  • Sending to someone else
  • Setup monthly report running would be cool
This is a free tool everyone can use. The use of red, orange, yellow, green, can help show developers what is going on with the website and where. Screenshots of website loading are also shown too. They also have a section on learning about web performance, great for designers.

  • Faster loading site, give results faster to visitors
  • Buyers can get to the end of the buying cycle faster
The results are in the eyes of Google and as we know they are the most popular search engine. Great information from Google. pingdom and GTmetrix allow for shareable results. Google Pagespeed does not have the option to see past tests run.

As Google pivots toward a mobile-first and UX-based search algorithm, it has become increasingly important to focus on the speed of your website to rank organically. Google doesn't want to forward people to slow sites, so the faster your site paints content and is readable, the better search score you'll get from Google. PageSpeed Insights are invaluable here, as it gives you the same score that Google uses to judge your website. Better yet, it shows you exactly what is slowing down your speed and bringing down your score so that you can go in and fix the offending section.

If you notice your site is taking a long time to load, then you should first use PageSpeed Insights to see what can quickly be optimized (also check your file sizes, hosting server, NGINX and other common sources of slow speed, too.) And, if you've notice gradually fewer Organic Search visits, PageSpeed Insights might be able to help. As Google is reducing the prevalence of slow sites, you could be losing traffic. Speed up your page load times by finding what is blocking renders, slowing down contentful paints, and other critical page speed signals.

  • Allows us to identify the biggest culprits to page speed
  • Reduces dev time by showing exactly what needs fixing
  • Gives helpful advice on optimizing code
  • Overall eases SEO strategy by focusing on page speed
I've never used any software beyond PageSpeed Insights and Google Lighthouse (the source of the PAgeSpeed Insights software.) I've used similar programs like Hummingbird for WordPress that pulls the same data using the same engine, but its really the only game in town as far as I'm concerned.

It is being used by the web development and marketing teams of my organization to identify bottlenecks in page loading times across our portfolio of websites. The data provided by Google PageSpeed Insights is granular and actionable enough to make relatively easy changes that will improve the experience of visitors to our websites.
  • Measure page loading time
  • Compared loading times against Google's benchmarks
  • Identifies opportunities for web page performance improvements
  • Identifies sub-optimal web page attributes that slow down page loading
  • Compare performance on mobile and desktop devices easily
  • Unable to test stats from different locations around the world
  • Interface is designed for technical users and may be overwhelming for newbies
  • May encourage webmasters to become obsessed about a perfect 100 score
  • Slightly different results when re-analyzing the same URL several times
It should be an essential tool for all website owners - everyone should care about page loading time from the CEO down to the junior web developer. Page speed is a factor that hugely affects visitor satisfaction, and Google takes it seriously by offering PageSpeed Insights. If you work in a larger organisation and focus on one particular part of website development and maintenance, such as a content writer, then this tool won't be as useful. It's intended for users with development or marketing-related responsibility.

  • One of our websites has reduced page loading times by over 70%
  • Faster page loading has improved organic search rankings which in turn boosted traffic over 30% within 3 months.
  • Reduced time taken to test and measure performance bottlenecks
Google's approach is a little different from competing services like WebPageTest and pingdom by providing Google-specific benchmarks. Their interface is a bit simpler and well-suited to more novice and intermediate site owners. Advanced users will prefer the granular data and flexibility from WebPageTest. But each service offers data that complements the others - so the best solution is to use all of them. As most site owners care about their organic search rankings in Google, it makes sense to pay attention to Google's own tools which are designed to help improve the experience for website visitors in addition to boosting rankings.

Google PageSpeed Insights is a tool we use daily for our client websites at our search engine marketing agency. From sales to account managers, our whole team uses the tool. It addresses website speed or performance.
  • Benchmark page speed in a quantitative, easy to understand manner.
  • Desktop and mobile assessment.
  • Feedback on what elements of your website need to be addressed to improve speed.
  • The suggestions for improvement can be technical for non-developers.
It's well suited for marketing agencies and business owners who want to think about website speed or performance.

  • Positive! It's easier to communicate with our clients where they are today with site speed and the steps needed to improve.
It's a free, easy to use tool.
There is no support from Google for the tool.
We prefer Google PageSpeed Insights to Pingdom's site speed tool and GTmetrix. It's easier to use and the data is highly actionable.

Google PageSpeed Insights is a great tool which helps both management and development teams, using it as a valuable tool to ensure our deliveries' quality. It provides insights on how to improve user experience, accessibility, and performance.

Also, it's a great way to show our clients how everything is going and better optimize our code for search engines.
  • Straight to the point
  • Valuable feedback on performance
  • Provide optimized assets (CSS, JS and images)
  • Could have better mobile analysis
  • Some performance requirements are somewhat difficult to meet
  • You don't need to get a 100% grade to have a greatly optimized website
We like Google PageSpeed Insights because it's rather simple to use and it fits all sorts of projects on the web, like simple landing pages, e-commerce, blogs and much more. It's great for the quality assurance stage, but it also provides insights and it needs to be considered right from the start.

  • Since it's a free tool, we can't recommend it enough.
  • It only requires a small amount of time to get used to and be able to make improvements on the website.
  • I think the negative impact may be the "grade" issue because some clients ask to get "100%" and it depends on the tools and web hosting you are using.
I think GTmetrix has some feedback that PageSpeed doesn't provide, but Google's tool is easier overall and has a better user experience; also offers compressed images, CSS, and javascript files if that's the case. Also, Google has extensive documentation to help you better understand what can be done to improve your grade.
