I need to be able to reach my desktop when I'm not in the office. It allows me to work from anywhere - which I do. Being able to pull files from our office computers and distribute them as necessary to our estimator wherever he is at the moment is important when all our work is done off the premises. We are too small to need a server or any pricey software/hardware solutions when a simple solution like GoToMyPC lets us access the files, including construction drawings, at any time. A cloud based solution is not as fast as using my office desktop even though we back up to Office 365. I keep the files we are currently using in a folders on my desktop and they are easy to find.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been able to work at home and stay safe. But I am also able to access our estimator's computer directly to download plans and leave note directly on his desktop because his computers at his homes are also running GoToMyPC.

I've been using GoToMyPC since I first discovered it over 20 years ago when we were still using dial up & before 'drag & drop" was available - it worked well then, and it's gotten better all the time.
  • Let's me work from my actual office computer's desktop
  • Transfers large files from one computer to another - fast
  • Let's me access our other remote computers within my first remote access so I don't have to go back and forth between logins.
  • A voice or video feature might be nice on occasion
  • Printing doesn't work on all of my remote computers
  • Mostly happy with everything
If you work away from an office computer, it's the best way to work away from it because you are actually working on it and not just files you've transfered to another machine.
If you work on an ipad, it's not always the best unless you have a keyboard.
I can use it on my phone for quick references or to email a file from my office computer, but it's not the greatest way to use the service. Just a stopgap. I usually carry a Surface that works great for remomte work, but sometimes I only have my phone. At least I have access, but using the screen "mouse" on my phone is a pain.
If you carry a laptop with you and it's your main work computer, you wouldn't need this service.

  • Allows my boss to go to Florida for the winter and get work done because I can transfer files to him and leave him messages directly on his screen.
  • Let's us work from home at any time - night, morning, etc - whenever it's convenient
  • Let's me do IT fixes on the host computers as necessary. This is a really BIG plus. I can access the screen and get to the problems.
I used it with my original Surface RT because GoToMyPC didn't work with it. I know it's now part of GoToMyPC, but I didn't like LogMein's interface as well as GoToMyPc. Just not as intuitive.
I looked at Microsoft product, but it requires all PC to run Windows Pro and only my Surface does that, so it was not for us.
Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365), Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, QuickBooks Desktop Pro

Communication between estimator and administrator to provide construction plans & documents to multiple computers. And to log in remotely to work computers from off site locations.

We don't need much support and 1 person is in charge of all IT.
  • Remote login to on site computers
  • Transferring large documents between remote computers
  • Accessing files and central email
  • Ability to communicate with workers from anywhere
  • Being able to access files from my work computer on my phone
  • Being able to invite our accountant to login to tax sites via our computers for filing when she couldn't access it from her device even with correct passwords
  • Not sure. Will know when it becomes necessary.
I have been using GotomyPC for 20 years and it's gotten better with time. It's the best remote app that I've tried. The others were harder to use and not as functional. It allows us to work from anywhere just as if we were in the office. Even being able to print to my remote location is a wonderful way of doing work. I don't have to drag it to my remote device, It will just print without any hassle.

Product usability. I tried other products just to see how they worked, but never left Gotomypc. The price has gotten a bit high, but the other products just don't compare. When I first starting using Gotomypc the cost was about $30. Now it's a lot more expensive. But I don't feel we have a choice.
I've been using it for 20 years and the selection process wouldn't change. I looked into other products, but they didn't cut it. I always check out more than one option and choose what works best for me.
It set up quickly and assigning log ins to various computers was simple. I don't think you need many insights into the product. It's easy to implement and easy to use. Since it's a work tool, it needs be that way. I wouldn't want the tool to have any learning curve when some of the people using it are not tech savvy. They are accessing their work computers for files or to work on apps that their remote devices might not have loaded.

Change management was minimal
Not much happened. It just intergrated easily.
  • None
  • No Training
There isn't much to learn. Click the icon and you're there. File transfers between computers are now drag & drop. I first used it when it was FTP transfers and even that was simple.
Changing printers is also simple.
I don't think much training would be necessary for anyone. Our company owner can use it without a problem and he's not tech savvy.
The product doesn't need much configuration. The defaults will work just fine. The only thing I change often is the printer that I'm using.
I would say stick with the defaults unless there is something in particular that you don't like. I change the printer so I can print to my remote printer rather than my local (GoToMyPC printer). I am usually printing for someone in our office to see while I'm working remotely.
Some - we have done small customizations to the interface
I changed to colors to reflect to which device I was connected. Other than that, not much needed.
No - the product does not support adding custom code
No. I already mentione the printer.
I have rarely had to contact support, but when I have done so, it's a professional discussion and issues are solved quickly. The techs know the product well.
No, I did not. I have had very few problems with the app. The self help is clear and the app itself is extremely stable. Any questions for which I had to call support were answered at the basic level. If I had to purchase premium support, I would think the product is faulty.
When I purchased an original RT Surface and it was not suppored by GoToMyPC, the support team knew immediately that I would need the LogMeIn app for that device. They were able to help me with it because I didn't feel it as good to work with as GoToMyPC.
I have nothing negative to say about the functionality. It's really great. I can work from anywhere. I can also access other Gotomypc computers from within my initial login. There is so much usability from anywhere that I really love it. And the fact that it connects almost instantly is a timesaver. Just click and my remote computer is there for me.
  • Just logging into any of our connected computers is a one click process
  • Printing to my remote computer where I am actually sitting is also a one click process
  • File dragging and dropping to remote desktop - easy
  • None - there isn't anything difficult.
Yes
It works very well. I use it on my phone. The only problem is looking at a 27" screen on my 6.5" smart phone. But I don't think that is a Gotomypc problem. You zoom in as necessary. The mouse function can be cumberson, but you can use simple touch as well.
I can use it on all of my devices - even my Galaxy phone. Once you log into your device, you work on it as if you were physically in front of it. Not much complexity in that. If you can work on your own device, you can work on it through another device - even a phone.
The availability has been excellent for me. Any issue is usually due to one of my devices becoming unconnected from the internet.
The performance is dictated by the internet connection speed. As long as I have a good connection, the performance is great. And GoToMyPC has a warning when either the host or the client has a poor connection.

I use GoToMyPC to connect to my office from home or on the road. Yes, there are other programs that allow you to connect remotely, but none are as full-featured GoToMyPC. I particularly appreciate the custom scaling you can make to screen size and the ability to remotely print to an actual printer. The program is robust and I have never had a problem with it, although it took them forever to remove the popup for Bitdefender antivirus. I could not make it go away no matter what I did. But on a functionality scale, it is nearly perfect.
  • remote printing
  • completely scalable screen size
  • smooth dual screen usage.
  • Popups for additional services or products that are hard to get rid of
  • inability to scroll to the bottom of a screen when not using [the] actual size and the target monitor is a vertical display
Well suited to remote access anywhere. I tried to use it from my cell phone and it works but the screen is so small it is unusable. Computer to computer is unmatched.

  • Could not live without it, I guess that gives it a good ROI
GoToMyPC has more features. I was not able to print to a printer using Splashtop not could I completely customize the size of the screen - could only use preset zoom features.

I have tried various remote access products from free to "how much did you say again?" Most of the other remote access products do not have the customization or flexibility. Those that do cost much more. Value for price is top of the class. There are less expensive/free products out there but this is a time where you really do get what you pay for.
Yes
TeamViewer. comparing cost and functionality, GoToMyPC . It has been long enough now since we changed that I do not remember exactly but there was something about TeamViewer that made it difficult to use, was really annoying and I could not get good support that and caused me to go looking for a replacement.

  • Product Usability
I could set it up and use it without extensive tutorials or having to search the web to figure out what to do. It was intuitive. It is just me and a secretary, I do not have an IT department nor lots of time to go searching for answers, so if I cannot get a program going quickly and fairly easy, I do not want it.
I would swear less.

Change management was minimal
I suppose since I had to look up the definition of "change management"; that answers that question.
  • Do not recall any.
Same as for every thing else computer related, read the instructions, take your time and do not rush it.
I do not recall ever having to contact support for help which makes support wonderful. I was able to review the FAQs and community and get the answer I needed quickly. Once when I had a question about billing and costs; the person I spoke to was able to explain what the options were and got me a refund when we discovered I was paying for more services than I needed.
No. Most premium support goes unused so why pay for it? I never have had a problem where premium support would have made a difference. I frankly do not even know if there is premium support offered.
No
When it came time to renew and looking at the options made me question did I needed as much as I was paying for. The support person led me through a review process, determined a less expensive option would suit my needs better, got me switched to it and got me a refund. A support tech who is more concerned about making sure you have the right product and not maximizing GoToMyPC's bottom line is a pearl beyond price.
It does what I want it to do. The instructions for setup and use are generally readily understandable by a basically non tech person. I have never had an occasion using GoToMyPC where I said "I wish this program could do "X" or "why did they make this so freaking difficult?".
  • printing
  • transferring files between computers
  • access to the other computer, fast and secure.
  • I have not found any yet.
Yes, but I don't use it
