Harvest has proven to be invaluable for users looking to customize their time tracking and pull detailed time reports. Users have found it helpful for managing time tracking and expense management, both for client reimbursement and company reimbursement. The software has been effective in accurately reflecting time worked on projects for clients, as well as paying hourly contractors. Additionally, Harvest has been praised by users for its ability to show clients how much time is used to complete projects and requests, aiding in project estimation and determining how much to charge clients. Harvest also facilitates invoicing, keeping all financial reporting in one accessible location and providing complete insight into the profitability of each project by tracking billable and non-billable time and expenses. It further supports businesses in evaluating the health of their operations through comprehensive reports. With its simple and effective invoicing feature, Harvest minimizes fees compared to other methods and helps organizations track time and expenses efficiently, analyze productivity, assess profitability, and plan for a successful future with accurate quotes for future projects. By providing insights into individual team members' time and project finances, Harvest aids in measuring outcomes, matching time spent on projects, making informed decisions, managing clients and individual projects, recording billable and non-billable hours, tracking work across departments, improving billing processes, providing accurate reports on hours spent on projects, replacing rough estimations, importing tracked hours from other software systems, managing digital marketing services, budgeting internal projects, ensuring transparency in time allocation within small teams or agencies, capturing timesheets for staff members, applying different rates to specific tasks, increasing accuracy in tracking client work throughout the entire organization, tracking service hours for each client and account to uphold agreements, streamlining time tracking and expense management for better project budgeting and reporting purposes. Overall, users appreciate Harvest's user-friendly interface and intuitive design that make time tracking and expense management easy and effective.

Simplicity and Intuitiveness: Many users have praised Harvest for its simple and intuitive user interface, which has made the onboarding process smooth and minimized the learning curve. They appreciate how easy it is to navigate and set up tasks in the software.

Flexible Time Tracking: The availability of multiple ways to track time in Harvest has been highly valued by users. With options to run timers constantly or add all their time at the end of the day, users can choose a method that suits their working style. This flexibility accommodates different preferences and enhances productivity.

Accurate Time Tracking: Users find the start-stop functionality of timers in Harvest effortless and accurate. They have mentioned that this feature allows them to track their time with precision, ensuring that billable hours are recorded properly. The ability to round up to the next 6 minutes also simplifies the time tracking process for billing purposes.

Limited Integration with Other Software: Some users have expressed frustration with Harvest's limited integration capabilities, particularly when it comes to project management systems like Basecamp and Asana. They feel that the lack of seamless integration hinders their workflow and makes it difficult to manage projects efficiently.

Difficulty in Finding Specific Items: Several reviewers have mentioned that they find it challenging to locate specific items within Harvest's interface. They feel that the organization of tabs for time, projects, team, and reports is not always clear, making it time-consuming to find what they need.

Lack of Robust Accounting Functionality: A number of users have commented on Harvest's lack of robust accounting functionality. They feel that while the software excels in time tracking and invoicing, it falls short when it comes to more advanced accounting features needed by growing companies.

Users commonly recommend the following actions when using Harvest:

Firstly, they suggest trying out the free trial of Harvest to see if it fits their workspace needs. They also recommend integrating Harvest with project management tools like Trello or Asana to minimize manual data entry.

Secondly, reviewers advise exploring Harvest thoroughly before implementing it for small businesses. They also recommend considering other time tracking software like Toggl and TSheets to make an informed decision.

Lastly, users highly recommend Harvest for any-size team to track time and analyze data effectively. They find it helpful for invoicing clients and suggest utilizing the Reports section for quick invoice generation. Additionally, they recommend creating a quick how-to guide for employees to ensure easy adoption of Harvest's features.

These recommendations highlight the importance of trying out the free trial, exploring the software fully, and considering integration with project management tools. Users also emphasize the benefits of using Harvest for tracking time, analyzing data, and managing invoices efficiently.

  • Project budget management - You can add a budget for each project, which we use for our individual clients.
  • Precise time tracking - By rounding up to the next 6 minutes (1/10th of an hour), it makes for easy time tracking and efficient money to time billing.
  • Easy syncing - I can start tracking time on my phone and turn on the clock from my computer. It automatically syncs across all my devices.
  • All-User Notifications - Although a notification can be sent out to the primary account, as employees it would be nice to receive those emails as well.

  • Project time management can be set up for multiple projects and multiple tasks within each project to allow for more accurate billing.
  • We can use Harvest in conjunction with the workflow organization tool Trello so that we can dedicate projects, attach, and view time spent on projects so that information is easily accessibly to anyone who needs it across multiple departments.
  • Harvest sends/emails regular time analysis reports so you can see where your time has been spent between projects.
  • It would be nice if time tracking for a day on one project would just show cumulatively instead of showing each time entry that was started and stopped.
  • As a project manager I would like to be notified with other team member time reports to know when time has been logged and be able to check for accuracy.

  • Time tracking is very easy for even non-technical users
  • Reports are intuitive and easy to understand
  • Billing function is available
  • Easy to manage tasks, roles and projects for any given client
  • I’m still trying to figure out how tasks best associate to a specific project. There’s a couple different places to edit that and I’m a little confused as to best practice.
  • Does not integrate into Basecamp which is our project management system

  • Easy to use -- simple user interface which leaves little room for error.
  • It's got a personality -- for example, at the beginning of a day, before you log any time, there is a different quote each day that relates to time.
  • It's extremely flexible -- everything within the tasks can be altered and manager so that it's personalized to fit your client/project needs.
  • I really don't have anything bad to say about Harvest. It does everything I need and more, and it was extremely easy to learn to use.

  • Tracking billable time - You can set different rates for different people on each project. Or you can charge for the task type. It also will track expenses that you can bill on to clients.
  • It will make invoices really quickly. This is the reason we switched to Harvest. We track our time and then simply send them the invoices. We can also set up automatic reminders for late payments. Clients can click the invoices and pay electronically which is nice.
  • It's quite simple to set up a project and to use it. The apps are great and function very well and reliably.
  • I would like to have a way to track the "total work time" instead of it just adding the time altogether. For example, often there is time that is not billable but then you also don't really want to track either. It would be nice if each day workers could clock in and out for payroll purposes.
  • Right now if you switch the rate you want to charge a client for a specific person, you can't, it would affect the past charges. You have to create a new project. It would be nice if they had an option to change the rate, but only have that affect changes in the future.
  • It would be great if they integrated with real merchant accounts. Right now it just uses things like Stripe and PayPal but usually, we charge the credit card ourselves so it would be nice to be able to do that ourselves through Harvest.
  • I would love to be able to have more options for minimum billing increments. Right now it lets you choose 1 hour, 30 minutes, 15 minutes, or 6 minutes. It would be great to use 10-minute increments but that's not an option with Harvest.

  • Easy to learn.
  • Connects easily to other important software as we use, such as Asana.
  • Highly organizable for all types and sizes of projects.
  • We would like to be able to see on a clock when you started and stopped each time. Harvest will show you this number while the timer is running, but not after the timer has been stopped.
  • Better functionality to warn you when you are almost done with the time you had put in a timer would be good.
  • In the search projects function, it would be nice to be able to view an entire project instead of just the timers within that project.

  • Specific project tracking
  • Daily hour tracking
  • Historical time tracking
  • I need to put in quarters, military time (.25, .5, .75) as opposed to time quarters (.15, .3, .45) which confuses me.
  • I need to have the owner often assign me to a project that I've been working on before I can put the row in my list of projects.

  • Non-complicated user interface.
  • The ability to place notes along with time and project & task headings
  • Reminders can be set that are helpful for making sure everyone keeps on top of posting their time and notes.
  • Much, much to generic-simple (e.g. Client addresses are a SINGLE data field, making it almost useless for export to other organizational software such as Outlook or Quickbooks).
  • Only 3 security level settings where at least 5 or 6 are needed (this has caused a MAJOR amount of ADDED workload for admin work, therefore MAJOR ADDED OVERHEAD EXPENSE and difficulty in being efficient).
  • Can only have one Attention To person when creating an invoice (should be a pull-down menu of all related contacts); this has caused UNNECESSARY duplication of client and project records to cover our needs when billing.
  • Over the past 4 years, we have repeatedly requested the key items that would be of help to be improved or changed ... we ALWAYS get the same response that they "are not working on this area at this time, nor have any plans to do so in the near future".
  • Someone at Harvest decided to change access/security rules AFTER we were using the system ...this change has BLOCKED use of particularly important areas from the only users (Admin Assist) available to perform the needed work ... which NOW HAS TO BE DONE OUTSIDE OF HARVEST (where it was possible to stay inside the program previously) NOTE: when asked why they changed this, there was no really good explanation and we were told they do not have plans to fix it back or create a better fix.
  • If the Admin (with full access) creates a Draft Invoice, a Project Manager CANNOT see it to help add to it or proof it.

  • Managing multiple users time clocks.
  • Harvest has a checkbox that allows your clients to direct pay their invoice on the due date recurring each month. It allows for streamless billing.
  • Harvest allows you to break up each client into projects and tasks. You can overview exactly where your employee's time has gone.
  • Invoicing could be a little easier to use. The retainer invoices are a little confusing.
  • The pricing for multiple users is a little high.

  • Offers several options on using the tool, for example, you can use the app on your phone, the app for desktop, or simply have the website open.
  • The timer integrates with other platforms. For example, our team uses Asana as our project management tool. Now, in real-time, I can know which projects my team is working on and whether we're implementing good time management strategies to meet our goals.
  • The summary break downs are wonderful! You can view an individual's hours as well as project hours. There are even notifications you could receive when your team is getting close to reaching the allotted time for a client's project.
  • Personally, I don't care for the app on the desktop. It might be my computer, but it times out frequently. I do, however, like the function that it'll notice you've been away from your desk (idle) and gives you options to remove that time or keep the time.
  • Maybe have templates people could build for themselves! I add the same first three time entries daily, they're tasks that I do throughout the day that I start & stop. It'd be nice if they're built into my own 'daily template' so that I wouldn't have to manually add them daily.

  • Track time -- it just works. From starting and stopping a timer to entering hours after the fact, Harvest is a quick and easy solution for time tracking needs.
  • Setting up clients, projects, and tasks. Within your dashboard, there's a top-level tab to show all your open projects by client. Each project can be opened to drill down to tasks, budget, and people assigned.
  • Reporting -- whether you need a very basic report like us, or something more complex, Harvest has it all. From the reports tab, you can easily sort by person, task, project, and more.
  • Good pricing. At only $12 per month/user, it can fit in the budgets of even the smallest organizations that need time tracking.
  • No way to batch assign time to multiple employees. As a "project manager" within the system, I can go into any employee's timesheet and add or remove hours, but a situation I frequently face is that several employees are all working on the same task. I wish there was a way to assign them all the same entry in one go.

  • Integrates with other project management apps (i.e Asana)
  • Allows us to allocate specific amounts of time to various tasks
  • Gives the managers a better sense of what part of our process is most time consuming
  • The mobile app lacks a lot of the functionality that the website offers, if I were to change anything, I'd definitely update the mobile app

  • Consistently making updates to better serve their wide variety of users
  • Allows for a decent amount of customization - you can put in different tasks for different departments, you can put in project costs on a one-time or recurring basis to compare time to money, etc.
  • It's pretty easy to pull customizable reports to fit what data you want to look at.
  • Sometimes it can be difficult to find the item that you're looking for, as there are tabs for time, projects, team, reports etc. and it's not always clear where the item you're looking for will be housed.
  • It would be nice if things could be broken out more clearly by department, as sometimes the entire organization will be added to a new project when really only a couple of people should have.

  • Easy to use for everyone in the organization.
  • The reporting that can be done for projects, clients, and employees is really helpful.
  • You can use a mobile app, desktop app, or the website to do expenses and time tracking.
  • The expense reporting is much easier than any other solution I have used.
  • The interface and expense reporting doesn't allow you to do much customization if you need specifics.
  • The desktop app is very basic so everyone in our company just had a tab open in a browser for Harvest.
  • Some of the admin features like adding/removing people from projects and defining their roles is not intuitive.

  • Harvest is great for tracking time and putting a certain amount of time into a certain project or task.
  • Having the desktop app to Harvest makes it easy to start and stop projects without having to log in to the website.
  • Sometimes Harvest has the tendency to get really slow if I haven't restarted it in a few days.
  • The reporting in Harvest is okay, but could be a bit more detailed and easy to use when it comes to mapping out times on certain projects.

  • Easy time tracking with browser add-ons/plugins.
  • Invoice management (sending/receiving invoices).
  • Invoice status - clear dashboard that shows a client's status and unpaid invoices.
  • Stronger contact management, possibly more like a CRM.
  • Automatic project creation (I currently use third-party automation software to do this in a roundabout way).
  • Harvest on Mac is able to give a notice when the timer has been left on and keep track of how long it appears to have been running ideally. This would be great if possible on other devices and browsers.

  • Harvest keeps our projects on track by showing our team how much time we spent on any given project and compares this to our estimate.
  • Harvest has an easy-to-use interface, making it an accessible tool for our entire team.
  • When we review our annual performance (time vs. profitability), Harvest is the primary tool we use.
  • I would love to improve the search function in the drop-down menu so that more clients can be viewed at a time.
  • The process of starting a new project is great! However, I would prefer that the Time & Materials rates would always default to a standard setting rather than defaulting to what was last used.
