HealthStream is a versatile platform that is utilized by various healthcare organizations to meet their education and training needs. For instance, University Healthcare Alliance relies on HealthStream to ensure compliance with clinical, non-clinical, and regulatory courses, while also connecting users to live classroom opportunities. COOK Medical utilizes HealthStream to provide formal training on hospital protocols, enabling employees to understand their legal obligations and responsibilities for the safety of themselves and others. Similarly, Genesis Health Systems relies on HealthStream to track course completions for their vast workforce of 5,000 healthcare employees, increasing compliance with Joint Commission and CMS regulations.

HealthStream serves as a one-stop employee portal for healthcare workers across multiple organizations. It allows them to access essential functionalities such as uploading educational materials, tracking classes for compliance with Joint Commission requirements, ensuring employee proficiency through demonstrations, and managing payroll and leave matters. Additionally, the platform supports the creation, distribution, and monitoring of training modules and certifications across multiple locations. Furthermore, HealthStream is not limited to individual institutions but extends its benefits across entire hospital networks. Several major hospitals rely on this platform for eLearnings, yearly required training sessions, Epic Testing, and maintenance of extensive employee transcripts. The ability to fulfill these training needs online eliminates the need for costly and time-consuming classroom sessions.

Moreover, HealthStream plays a crucial role in managing nurses' prestart education within large companies with multiple brands and offices. Its enterprise-wide Learning Management System facilitates initial hire onboarding as well as ongoing regulatory and compliance training. User-specific course assignments based on job roles are made possible through the platform's tracking features which enable accurate completion records for accreditation and regulatory audits. Apart from its impact on compliance and education requirements, HealthStream has proven instrumental in specific areas such as CPR and ACLS certification at a community-based hospital. Staff members are now able to train around the clock, reducing travel time and costs. The platform's Authoring Center empowers healthcare organizations to create custom courses tailored to their facility or department, ensuring relevant and effective training.

Overall, HealthStream has garnered positive feedback from users who appreciate its ability to centralize training and education efforts across healthcare organizations. It is utilized by employees at all levels, from new hires receiving necessary onboarding training to existing staff accessing additional training resources, including annual requirements and company policy updates. With its flexible features and user-friendly interface, HealthStream has successfully provided continuing education for the entire hospital staff. Various departments have utilized the platform to efficiently distribute important information and ensure that employees are up-to-date with company policies and new systems, services, or features.

One of the key advantages of HealthStream is its ability to streamline the training process for organizations with multiple locations. By using the platform, healthcare providers can assign and monitor courses for regulatory reasons and job-specific training across various sites. This ensures consistency in training standards and helps organizations stay compliant with industry regulations. HealthStream has also been highly beneficial for new hires, as it enables them to receive necessary training upon onboarding. The platform provides a comprehensive library of resources that can support new employees in learning about their roles and responsibilities within the organization. This not only enhances their understanding but also contributes to a smoother transition into their new positions. Existing employees have also greatly benefited from HealthStream by gaining access to additional training opportunities. The platform offers a wide range of courses that go beyond mandatory requirements, allowing employees to further develop their skills and knowledge in areas relevant to their roles. This continuous learning approach fosters professional growth and keeps employees engaged and motivated.

In summary, HealthStream serves as a valuable tool for healthcare organizations in meeting compliance requirements, providing ongoing education and training, streamlining processes across multiple locations, and supporting the development of both new hires and existing staff. Its user-friendly interface combined with its extensive library of resources makes it an essential platform in the healthcare industry.

We used it across the organization to complete compliance and job-specific training. This was used at about 20 different locations as well as corporate. We used the HealthStream package of courses, as well as built our own courses and uploaded them into HealthStream. It addresses training needs for compliance reasons.
  • Track training.
  • Reporting.
  • Course building.
  • More intuitive.
Healthstram is good for healthcare, but there may be other options out there. They claim to be used in the majority of hospitals, so that’s nice as there is less of a learning curve for people in the healthcare field. I was not impressed from a learning perspective on the courses that they had in their course package, but it’s easier than building courses if you don’t have an instructional designer on staff.

  • Tracked compliance training.
  • Tracked training hours.
I liked Cornerstone better from an LMS perspective, they were a bit easier to use and had a better user experience. Cornerstone had more to offer as well with reporting and was a bit more user-friendly from an administrator perspective. Cornerstone also is not just for healthcare but other industries.
I only used HealthStream for a short time, but it wasn’t overly user-friendly or pretty. There were some quirks that I didn’t like, like the quiz builder or uploading lists. Whenever you assigned a group it was difficult to tell and confirm that the assignment went out. Overall I like other systems better.

HealthStream is used by our organization as our initial hire and annual ongoing regulatory and compliance training solution for all employees across the whole organization. HealthStream allows us to assign courses according to job role. We can also track and monitor when training has been completed. In the case of an accreditation or regulatory audit, HealthStream allows us to show compliance with the required training courses spanning the areas of compliance, HIPAA, Privacy & Security, OSHA, employee and patient safety and Human Resources. We are also able to create and assign our own authored content for more organization specific training.
  • Tracking compliance
  • Verifying content is up to date and accurate
  • Authoring your own content required a lot of training
  • Would like the ability to assign competencies that more then one person could sign in to
HealthStream is well suited for large or spread out organizations where in person training is not always feasible. It would be less appropriate for a business with less than 10 employees where in person training can be done.

  • No need for a training department
  • No need to manual track regulatory learning
HealthStream has a big course selection to choose from.
Overall we like HealthStream and are continually finding new ways to use the system. The account managers are very helpful. Now we use video authoring which has speed up the course production tremendously.

We currently use HealthStream to manage our nurses prestart education. This includes courses on identified deficiencies, specialty exams, and other content exams for things such as pharmacology and dysrhythmia. This program is used across all brands within our companies- approximately 15+ and across various offices throughout the US- approximately 15+. This program helps us to manage all needed education on one platform.
  • Allows us to schedule courses to reoccur yearly.
  • Allows us to print a fully completed transcript of course completions.
  • It is difficult to see what assessments were failed without additional transcript report changes.
  • It is not able to accommodate CE credits for International Nurses applying for US licensure.
HealthStream is a wonderful tool for assigning assessments and evaluating knowledge. The assessments have a large pool of questions to pull from. The exams are timed and will generate a test report at the end of the exam so the clinical team can see what tests were passed and failed. These are helpful in ensuring we know what the nurse needs extra education on. HealthStream would be less suited for education items that would need to be validated in person...skills such as CPR.

  • We have not had a need to pay for other education platforms since HealthStream can accommodate all of our education needs.
  • Our credentialing team has had increased productivity since the implementation of HealthStream since they only have to work on one platform.
Unfortunately, the support from HealthStream has not been stellar. Each time we have a meeting with our HealthStream representative his answer is often "that is still being worked on", "I don't have an update", or "I wouldn't be the expert on that". Issues are rarely resolved or if they are resolved it takes many months.

HealthStream is used across the entire organization I believe. It is a great way to administer a hospital-wide policy competency. Whenever a new program will be rolled out our first interaction with it is almost always through Healthstream. It allows managers to assign new tasks and make sure we have completed them with a passing grade.
  • Allows you to be able to keep track of all your assignments from your manager.
  • Often gives you the ability to test out of having to do the training with a pretest
  • Keeps all your completed work for you to review or look back on should you need a refresher.
  • On more than one occasion healthstream notified me that I had a task to be done, but it was nowhere to be found in my assignments.
We often use healthstream as a way to complete our yearly competency of hospital protocol and policies. Its a great time saver for things like HIPAA practice and emergency code situations without having to have a meeting every year covering the same thing. Sometimes I do wish we had a meeting about new applications and programs instead of just healthstream, but I think that's a department issue more than a healthstream one.

  • In my opinion it has been a big time saver for all the department managers. Instead of holding meetings on things that are assigned yearly we can get them done in healthstream.

HealthStream is used by the entire hospital system. It allows departments to assign mandatory training to their employees to ensure everyone is on the same page. There are also learning assignments that the entire enterprise gets. They can be set to retake the course every x months to ensure continued learning. It allows employees to complete training on their own time since everyone in the hospital is so busy it makes simple training available online instead of requiring in-person training.
  • Extremely broad customization. Each task or assignment can be distributed to everyone, a department, a role, etc.
  • Easy interface: it doesn't require a bunch of pop-ups, everything just flows.
  • Minimal requirements: most courses just need a browser, no plug-ins or additional features.
  • Hard to ensure learning retention since employees can simply click through the modules if they choose.
  • It doesn't remind the employees via email that assignments are due, you have to log in to the site to see that.
It is extremely helpful for assigning learning opportunities to staff members. You can easily choose which assignments are necessary for which roles and departments. If items should be revisited annually you can easily configure that setting so the course reassigns each year. This feature is super helpful for compliance measures. It is not practical if hands on learning is required. In healthcare there are many things that can be addressed via HealthStream but you have to understand the limits - we wouldn't teach CPR via an online module.

  • It has allowed us to easily and consistently ensure compliance standards in the ever-changing healthcare field.
  • We have been able to keep in-person training for specific hands-on needs and provide flexibility to the staff with HealthStream assignments.
  • My Learning
The interface for HealthStream is 1000x better than My Learning. I still struggle to find my assignments and upcoming in person training on My Learning. It is not intuitive and doesn't have a dashboard when you sign on to see everything at once. HealthStream lets me easily see my assignments, their due dates, and any upcoming dates.
