We use it to understand how users behave within a wireframe/mockup. The service provides a Heatmap: it allows to see what captures users' attention. It allows observing movements, u-turns, and rage clicks. But most importantly it gives us back Feedback so that we can hear what users actually think about each of our pages.

Hotjar is very well suited to monitoring your web traffic user experience and surveying your users. You can gather feedback on any web-based experience and use it to make informed decisions about what to change, improve, add to your product roadmap, etc. Hotjar should not be used as your sole Customer Service interface. It captures data passively for planning, not individual reaction.

We use Hotjar at our organization to better understand user behavior on our website and we've also used it within our application too. It's great that we can see what the user see and what they are doing and where they are going so we can improve the usability/user journeys. If your looking to make your user's life easier/increase engagement then Hotjar is definitely a tool you should consider.

  • Customize the dashboard view - allow re-ordering of the widgets or hide widgets that aren't being used.
  • Sometimes when you navigate and you press the back button nothing happens and you need to use the nav on the page but then you have to make a few clicks to get back where you were.
  • Would be good to have integrations with ticketing platforms like JIRA, Github, and Bugherd in case you come across a bug you can easily raise a work ticket
If your looking to improve the user experience on your website/web app then Hotjar is definitely worth you considering. We have used this product on our website and web app for quite a while and it's great to be able to view where a user is on the page, where they're mouse is moving and when they're scrolling etc. It's helped us gain a better insight into user behavior that's allowed us to make improvements to our site and web app.

We use Hotjar to track user behaviour on our website in order to streamline the overall user journey on our site. Hotjar allows us to see what the user is doing and where they encounter any possible "roadblocks" in their interaction with our website. Based on the results, we can carry out optimisations to the content layout and call-to-action incentives where needed.

Hotjar is well suited to start analysing user behaviour if you need to optimise your website or blog to maximise conversions of your call-to-actions. This is particularly effective when you notice a change in user interaction with your website. You can analyse possible shortcomings and take the required actions accordingly. They have a free plan as well to get started which is a bonus.

We are using Hotjar since the very initial days to track users' behavior on our website and app. With every new feature release, we get to know about users' drop points and usability metrics. It really helped us in minimizing drops by improvising designs.
  • It really creates very good heatmap of user's clicks.
  • Very detailed analytics available for all CTAs available on your website/app.
  • It even records session of user's interactions.
  • Analyzing huge data accumulated by Hotjar can be improvised by better representation.
  • Learning documents needs to be improvised (help documents in video format are always better).
  • For taking surveys, their competitors have better features.
If you are in the early stage of your product evolution then this is a very good tool. If used properly it can explain to you how users are using your product and you can accordingly adjust UX. Maybe once the product is evolved and accepted by the audience then it might be less required.

We make use of Hotjar for both ourselves and clients, for two main things. Though I mainly use the recordings section to gauge user behavior on our paid-search landing pages, we also use the heatmaps on our and clients' websites to see where we're losing people and to see which elements on the pages are most important, and which are being completely overlooked. We use the recordings with clients to show them the efficacy of long-form landing pages

I specifically use the heat maps and other data to help me understand how my users are interacting with my website and it helps me understand where I can make changes, for example on my sales page or on one of my blogs. Once I understand how they use it then I make the change and record it again.

We are using Hotjar to record user behavior and make changes to our website design accordingly. It is used by the SEO team only to analyze the interactions. It's really helpful to reduce our bounce rate and CTR on pages as we can see how far a user scrolls on a page and what button people click on.

The use of Hotjar is vital to analyze landing pages and user experience. It also helps you understand what your customers are doing, which content engages them most often on these pages - for example: if one specific passage appears more than others do then that might mean there should be an extra emphasis placed upon it when writing new copy or messages in future pushes from our team! The heat map reveals where people spend their time interacting with the site so this information could very well help us identify certain areas worth focusing marketing efforts; All of these features helps us to generate more conversions for our clients.

I recommend Hotjar as a ten rating because it's very easy to use, and has an intuitive user interface. The heatmaps are also pretty self-explanatory so you can easily see what actions your audience is performing on each page of the site or app that leaves them with no question about how people interact within their experience from start (or end) until completion--whether they're clicking around aimlessly looking at products while waiting in line somewhere. I recommend Hotjar as a 10 rating because it is very easy to use, has plugins for Google Tag Manager and WordPress which makes implementing tracking code simple. Lastly, I like that I can give access alike anyone else - even those not yet an employee or client of mine.

We utilize the resources of Hotjar to really get a feel for how users interact with our website. The whole point is to understand what drives traffic, what content is useful, and what elements draw visitors into the site. Hotjar provides this invaluable feedback using real experience (not just numbers). There are nuances about how a visitor truly interacts with the page that a number just doesn't reflect. Screen recordings, pauses, scrolls, and page jumps help tell a much more complete story that provides context and value.
  • Shows me where users stop, repeat, and return.
  • Shows me specifically if there are problems, confusion, or delays.
  • Helps me streamline content that users skip over, don't consume, or avoid.
  • It's cumbersome to get numbers to display. That could be simplified (I think?).
  • It would be helpful to know if recordings included 'target' pages - key pages that are conversion pages. We know landing/exit pages - maybe we could flag a specific page to be a 'key' page and then know when a specific recording 'hit' that page?
  • Sometimes I miss notifications that a recording has stopped working - not sure if there are better ways to send notifications (SMS?).
I simply love this product -- it provides insight and value to me that is actionable and intentional. I don't make decisions based solely on analytics reports, but we overlay those reports with the contextual usage that we see from real UX/UI. There's no easier tool that I've found to help us make decisions that are supported by data and proven by users' actions.

Both the marketing and web team within our organization use Hotjar to gain insights on how our customers are using our website and to find improvements that we can make to the customer experience. We use surveys, heatmaps, recordings, and funnels to gain actionable insights that we can use to improve.

  • We like the email notifications when surveys have been completed
  • They are switching from manual to automated heatmaps, and we don't always get as good of data
  • Would love more options in the free version
We especially love the surveys within Hotjar, and we have gotten lots of good actionable feedback that has either validated some assumptions we have or has provided us with new information that has helped us improve our website. We also really like having access to the recordings of users on our site so that we can see specific actions or paths that users are taking as they navigate through.

Hotjar helps me to understand people's behaviour on websites. I implement it for all my clients for heatmapping, session recordings, and on-site polls. You can find out what the main interactions are on pages, how people browse through the page (whether they scan, read everything, or just scroll aimlessly), and then ask people pertinent questions in their journey to find out WHY they're behaving that way.
  • Polls - quick and simple ways of gathering qualitative user feedback
  • Recordings - excellent for observing behaviour and gathering some key behaviours
  • Heatmaps - either automatically collect heatmaps or do it manually, I like having both options (you can use regex on the manual mode)
  • If the heatmaps move to ONLY the automatic mode, it needs an option for regex, otherwise it works fantastically
  • I wish they had a partnership scheme, as we've used them for years & recommend to all our clients
It's really well priced (clients never have an issue with their pricing), easy to set up, easy to get started, and delivers great insights consistently. I think they maybe need more explainers (for my clients) around how to get the most of it

In Bussi one of main conversion tool is our landing page, we consider a conversion a download. Usually paid campaigns will deliver high conversion leads to several landing pages and from there we have to make the best effort to convert a lead into a Download. Here is where Hotjar becomes one of our more interesting tools since we can track exactly the behavior of potential leads from the moment they enter the page to the moment they complete a goal or they leave the session, all the information gathered for Hotjar will feedback our UX team and web designers so they can improve the conversion rate.
  • Track all the user journey from the moment ir arrives to the website until the moment they download or leave the page
  • Detect and understand what elements from the website are helping us or stopping us from converting users
  • To show real feedback to our UX/UI team in order to make important decisions about the web designs and implement clear call to actions
  • When you put embedded javas cripts or iframes like 3rd party forms it usually doesn't render the form in hotjar so it becomes complex to determine what works and what it doesn't work in this 3rd party forms.
  • More daily sessions for paid plans even though 500 daily sessions seems a lot you will get surprised when your site generates more and following plans have a bigger gap between price and sessions.
  • At the beginning it might be a little confusing to implement but nothing that devs can't handle.
If there is a tool for real time behavior monitoring that we can recommend is Hotjar and as said before if you have use of case where you need to constantly improve User Experience or you need to improve the conversion rate of your particular objectives then HotJar is the tool to go. On the other hand is you just need to know how many users enter the site and don't care that much about actions inside you site then a simple web analytics is more than enough

We used Hotjar to track the quality of traffic coming into our website and use that data to make important marketing decisions. It was really great because it provided us objective insight on what the next step is in terms of what to do with our promotions, and it also helped dispel common knee-jerk reactions on certain items that may be irrelevant to our website visitors, who are, ultimately, our prospects.

HotJar is a heatmap and feedback software and it is used mainly by our marketing department and in particular by our webmasters and digital marketers. We make frequent changes to our website with new landing pages and content and HotJar is a great tool to see if the changes we make work and how effectively we engage our visitors.
  • Before HotJar we had to purchase at least three separate software to obtain the same data (Crazy Egg, Qualaroo and Survey Monkey).
  • I particularly like the "Recording" section where you can capture each and every session of your visitors when they hit the website and you watch over their shoulders.
  • The HeatMap feature is great and it is essential when you design new landing pages. You can get valuable insights on what areas of your site people are spending time on.
  • The Poll feature is great and people give us feedback on our site and we can gain valuable insights. The only drawback is that sometimes people ask a specific question and don't leave their contact (because it's just a poll) so we can never get back to them with the answer.
  • The Funnel Feature is good but it could be improved. I find it a bit too simplistic and it should have more data.
  • The “Recruiters” feature is very interesting in theory but I don’t think it really works in real life. It basically allows you to recruit some of your visitors and invite them to a live user test via screen sharing (Skype) to truly see what they are thinking. The problem if you have to find people that want to do it and I don't think people will do it unless you give them a gift back.
It's great for any company that has an in-house marketing department and people are very hands-on and they are interested in testing all the changes to a website. Less appropriate for people that are not very interested in digging deeper into data and insights.

We use Hotjar as an analysis tool to review visitors on our website. Hotjar helps us make data-driven decisions about our website as well as our services and products. It gives a great insight into where users go mostly on our website, in addition to Google Analytics. The marketing and the website development teams are able to use this data to make adjustments.

If you have a website for your business, it is really important to know what users do on your site. Hotjar helps evaluate the content that is less viewed and adjust it. Pages and content that are most viewed can be turned into targeted advertising if you track users from your website. Keeping your website constantly updated can help increase views and focus your advertising.

Hotjar is a new tool that we've recently started using to better understand our user journeys, both on our website and our product. More recently, we upgraded our accounts to get more data so that our findings have statistical significance when it comes to testing different types of page designs and implementing improvements. With Hotjar, we mostly use their heat mapping tools and screen recordings.
  • The heat mapping tools in Hotjar are outstanding. By knowing how far our website visitors explore the pages, we have been able to quantify how successful a page copy rewrite has been by merely proving many more people now engaged with the rest of the page!
  • The ability to record videos of how our website users interact with key pages has helped us reduce friction and, ultimately, increase our conversion rates.
  • Feedback polls have been useful for our product/development team when releasing new features and collecting feedback about their experiences.
  • The funnels feature could be improved. I've found this to be largely inconsistent when comparing to data we get from the funnels we build in Google Analytics.
  • The feedback polls and incoming feedback surveys could look a little nicer. I'd then be more inclined to use them on our website to see if our visitors, as well as leads, are enjoying their experience.
  • It would be great if the heatmaps on blog home pages could tell me more about which new articles are more popular (every time we add a new blog, the order changes, so new articles replace old ones).
If you're at the stage where you'd like to pursue CRO (conversion rate optimization) and improve UX (user experience) for your website visitors, then Hotjar is one of the tools you should have in your toolkit! Here are a few ways we use Hotjar that has been useful:
  • Set up heatmaps on crucial conversion pages on your website (if you're in SaaS, that's your /pricing or /features page).
  • Create a space where you can record your findings (we use a project management tool to do this, but you can create a Google Doc if you wish).
  • With the heat maps, track the data about the fold, how far people scroll, # of clicks, and others.
  • Come up with tests/experiments to run on a bi-weekly basis, and record them in the same space.
  • Then, compare your data from two weeks before with the current averages, make observations.
  • Rinse and repeat until you've exhausted test ideas! :)

P.S. I'd also recommend setting up the recordings on key pages - this feature is most useful for product teams, BUT, by seeing where people click (when there's no link) and how they move through the page, you can make quick adjustments to help your website visitors discover more useful content.
