What is IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions?

IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions is designed to make cloud adoption easier, allowing the user to optimize the value of existing on-premises infrastructure, while leveraging the same tools, technologies and skills in the cloud. The solution provides rapid scalability, deployment in 35+ global data centers and access to disaster recovery, backup, security and compliance solutions from an array of ecosystem partners.

To address varying workload needs, IBM Cloud offers both client-managed and IBM-managed VMware solutions. The client-managed solution, IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions Dedicated, includes VMware vSphere and VMware vCenter options in a monthly subscription model on a single-tenant infrastructure. Both run on bare metal servers enabling secure, single-tenant deployments. Additionally, the same root level hypervisor access can be retained as with an on-premises cloud. These models improve compatibility and increase cloud agility.

The IBM-managed solution, IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions Shared, leverages VMware vCloud Director in an hourly or monthly consumption model on a multi-tenant infrastructure. This self-service solution provides a way to start migrating virtual machines (VMs) to the cloud in a matter of minutes. IBM Cloud manages the hypervisor, so users don’t have to worry about managing, patching or updates. The vendor describes this model as flexible and cost-effective for scalability.

The IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions helped to deploy the Vmware Virtual desktop infrastructure and its resources on the ibm Cloud and which helped to deliver the VDI infrastructure across the globe to all users of the organization and the IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions is much reliable and the performance is much better compared to other cloud solutions for VMware deployment.

The appropriate scenarios where we would use the products areMigrate development and testing environments for new applications so that they can be accessed from anywhere.Deployment of the recovery environment in case of any contingency when the productive environment failsImplementation of containers and kubernetes for high-demand applications that require increasing or reducing resource utilization

This is a very well designed application to help creating reliable and rather fast nightly backups. These backups can be made into incremental and/or a full one. We do nightly incremental and weekly full ones. The ability to be able to replicate a server to make sure any potential disasters are avoided by running a mock test is invaluable and priceless.

Intuitive product that is easy to use and user-friendly interface that gives the user the ability to navigate through easily and fast on implementation. It helps to leverage the existing On-Premises infrastructures with Clouds capabilities and with effective live virtual machine migration and backup and also maintains the same hypervisor-security level.

IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions is well suited is good for the deployment and migration of workloads to the cloud in a quick manner and flexibility in access to cloud resources. However, it needs to be tested out first if this is the right avenue for your use case.

The software was very easy to implement during the initial involvement and the features are accessible with different unique capabilities. The Cloud performance of the tool is excellent and the tool allows the easy moving of data and also the Automation of multiple services. The IBM Cloud for VMware data management environment is secure and effective.

I think IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions would be a good fit for a medium to a large company looking to outsource their current in-house VMware products. The IBM solution would allow them to outsource their current infrastructure so that the company could then concentrate on their core business, whatever that may be. A smaller company with a smaller VMware footprint would probably not be a good fit here. It's a pretty complex process to get things started, so it might not be worth it for a smaller company.

If you need a quick IBM product to migrate without thinking of risk of regular AWS outages, this is the right platform to use. Also if you are already dependent on PVU licensing, go ahead with another IBM product.

It is less appropriate if you are already on VMware or Vsphere, as you will identify the difference of ease.

IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions is well suited for a company looking to move 100% to the cloud. It is also well suited for a company looking to not want to worry about onsite hardware costs and upkeep. It allows for less need for dedicated onsite IT staff as well as support is included with licensing.

When you want to remove the management of the physical hardware from the equation. Helps shift from CapEx spend to OpEx. Provides good security and availability/uptime for business-critical workloads. Native VMware integration makes this a product that is easy to recommend.

It's a test to have another site as DR and keeping it up to the level of our item site. IBM Cloud permits us not to stress over keeping up another site. It's not difficult to begin with IBM Cloud, moving beginning seeds, and keeping up reproducing information.

In a situation where backbone data center reliability is essential for redundancy and speed of operation, it excels. Another situation would be in deploying replication to other sites as the ease of access makes this a snap.

IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions is great - especially if you have a small IT staff and deal with challenges on day to day basis on keeping the environment up to date, not allowing to do new things and focus on new business objectives and goals. IBM cloud can address a need to have migrated IAAS or DRAAS. It's a cost-effective solution.

We use it for bare metal and to support IBM specific products. Where it doesn't make sense are for workloads that are already container-based and customers are looking for a full platform.

I believe IBM Cloud [for VMware Solutions] is well suited for individuals who know their product, but not so much for cloud strategy. IBM helps us accelerate and plan the cloud journey and allows us to scale. I wouldn't recommend the IBM Cloud if you know how to scale and distribute the servers worldwide.

Scenarios where VMware vSphere on IBM Cloud is well suited for any companies that don't want to have to worry about the physical side of everything. If you are already looking to virtualization, then why not get rid of the physical infrastructure running the vSphere portion as well. A less appropriate scenario would be in the case of our SCADA systems. Due to the nature of these systems, we still prefer to keep the management and vSphere on prem.
