Product Details
What is IBM Cloud Private?
IBM Cloud™ Private is a scalable cloud platform that runs on users’ infrastructure. It’s built on open source frameworks, like containers, Kubernetes, and Cloud Foundry. In addition, it offers common services for self-service deployment, monitoring, logging and security, and a portfolio of middleware, data and analytics.
Key Features and Benefits
Security
Helps ensure security for data in transit and data at rest across all
platform services. All services expose network endpoints via TLS and encrypt
data at rest.
Kubernetes container orchestration
Brings orchestration primitives to support, enabling users to run
Kubernetes containers in production.
Private Docker image registry
Integrates with the Docker registry V2 API to provide a local registry
service that functions similarly to the cloud-based registry service Docker
Hub.
A unified installer
Uses an Ansible-based installer to rapidly set up a Kubernetes-based
cluster that contains master, worker, proxy, and optional management and
Vulnerability Advisor nodes.
Transformation advisor
Provides recommendations for users’ cloud journeys by turning information
about their environments and applications into insights.
Monitoring and alerts
Configures Prometheus collectors for custom metrics. Custom metrics help
provide insights and building blocks for customer alerts and dashboards.

- Logging function: Currently use Kibana Logging Service, but [we expected] this feature to be integrated to ODM on the Cloud Dashboard.

IBM Cloud
- There is a large variety of services available on IBM Cloud.
- This is my first experience with a PaaS and I haven’t had any major problems navigating around it.
- It is easy to deploy applications and services on IBM Cloud.
- The UI was a little confusing at first after the shift from BlueMix.
- There could be better support and examples for deploying SOAP services.
Positive experience in the early stages
- IBM provides great customer support
- Obtaining access was easy and went very smooth
- IBM Cloud Private alleviates and meets the security requirements demanded in a regulated industry.
- More hands on training outside of virtual classes would be helpful.
Blue Box is a great for your changing business needs
- Creating a project and users is very easy and I can manage my configurations anytime, which is ideal.
- Self-service was a big selling point. At times there are issues that I can't figure out, but for the most part, I'm able to manage everything with little to no assistance.
- Blue Box is scalable - I can quickly add capacity at any time. Easy to use and navigate.
- A little on the expensive side, but not bad if you’re a large company.
- Larger operating systems can take longer to configure. Not a huge problem, but expect to spend some time on it.
- If you do need support, it can take a while to get the help you need.
