Topmost industry standard solution
We used this tool in managing our POS application on individual devices. We used it for multipurpose as well as data warehouse purposes too. 1:16 ratio between server and individual devices for point of sale applications. The transaction extraction process has been made so easier with this tool and sync is almost real-time. The product addresses different platforms such as hardwired devices and portable mobile devices also.

- The data control aspect is really effective and very useful
- Stability and no latency issues notices during operations
- More tech support may make it easier as it is only limited to be done via company representatives
- Overhead cost for replacements and services looks like it is high compared to others

Dataload and compression features are handled easier in Netezza compared to Teradata. 600+ users can operate at the same time with no issues whereas in Teradata it breaks after such a load. Easy to manage huge queries of code in Netezza compared to Teradata. ROI is effective with Netezza. Does not run into issues such as huge hung memory sessions.

IBM Netezza Data App does everything but nothing is special
We use IBM Netezza for querying data sets from our database. It allows users to export results to Excel as an example for further analysis.
- Data export, i.e. to Excel.
- Database views and queries monitor through Netezza monitor app.
- Cannot use functions such as pivot, which is in MS SQL Server
- Objects such as tables do not pop up automatically in the editor, users needs to navigate themselves to know the object names
- It allows us to work together simultaneously in the database to query our custom results.
- It requires users to know the object name as it does not pop up in their text editor. Thus, users take more time in writing queries.
Netezza is sufficient against similar products. It comes down to personal preference, I'd love to have the data objects popping up as I type but some people may not like it.

- The cost is expensive for medium-sized and smaller companies.
- IBM could bring back the technical account managers.
- The procurement process is a hassle.
- The appliance is all in one so we have all licenses and support contracts under one roof.
- The cost is expensive so ROI may take time to be realized.
- If done correctly, then Netezza provides the opportunity for huge ROI.
IBM Netezza Data Warehouse Appliances is well suited for use by a larger organization wanting to solve the business problems related to the collection, transformation, and dissemination of our company's business process information. These means the small data sets or data warehouse less than 1TB are best done with a different tool like SQL Server.
