the peer managed support is the best way to resolve things as the hive mind to bring forth the best ideas and practices from different backgrounds will provide a robust solution. Plus SPSS is pretty intuitive when you use this a basic tool and everyone has prior experience with the tool.

Unknown how many people support SPSS in-house. I have never needed to rely on support. There are pretty robust resources and manuals in place to help students download the software, and online materials for how to use the point and click system.

Being a small business, we all wear many hats. The business owner and myself are the ones to typically troubleshoot issues or answer other questions about the software, as we have used it the longest. Typically support is only needed when updating a license (e.g. installing on new computer or upgrading to a new version of SPSS).

Other than some student support I do not provide professional support. When working with students, patience and an ability to go through things slowly are key to helping the student succeed.

We don't really have in-house support for SPSS other than going to other colleagues and asking questions. Shop around for the best price too because in-house pricing for the software is sometimes more expensive turning the support to the organization where the software is purchased from. Skills of detailed knowledge of how to work the program are needed.

We have a tech support department that is also vast--as it includes over 150 employees. However, these individuals are not dedicated to SPSS support. I actually get most of my support online through available tutorials, reference books, or the HELP function within SPSS. I would suspect that an organization starting to use SPSS would need some initial support that the company would provide. However, once installed, the level of detail needed by the user typically details the support needed. I have had no issue easily finding what I needed--including screen-by-screen instructional videos and tutorials.

Analysts capable of working with spreadsheet style datasets that need to run simple statistics and table generating output. Then we have one power user who uses SPSS for everything, he's the company's only data scientist and he has a PhD in Sociology and a lot of the high level business decisions that are made come from analytics this guy ran in SPSS. He's trained the rest of us on how to use SPSS.
