IBM Watson Content Analytics helped us in performing data segregation and analytics to generate raw data to process data. We were able to perform decision-making intelligence and insights with the healthcare patients' data to understand their stages of health problems segregated based on the type of health issue and the stages. We wanted to understand if the information could provide such insights and make it understandable with a huge amount of data.
  • Easy Interface - Drag and click based UI.
  • Good amount of tools for visualization.
  • Less amount of time taken to perform analysis.
  • It would be better if its available for cross platforms.
  • Pricing could be adjusted better.
  • More number of third party add-ons required.
It is well suited for those who are beginners and want to get hands-on with data analysis. It is also easy to learn as the UI is simple and understandable. It can be improved on provided some discounts in the pricing.
  • Faster performance in delivering.
  • Simple and understandable UI.
  • Highly collaborative and good tools to explore and learn.
  • It has provided a positive work environment.
  • Since its easy and understandable good amount of team communication improved.

IBM Watson Content Analytics is mostly used for the analytics side of the operation. We use it to analyze text data and other unstructured data. It is also used with structured data. It is only used by a few individuals within the organization with a more advanced understanding of advanced analytics.
  • IBM Watson Content Analytics is perfect for individuals wanting a point-and-click user interface that can accomplish a host of advanced data mining tasks.
  • Content Analytics works quite well with unstructured data.
  • Converting unstructured data to structured data is much easier with Content Analytics than other, competing open source products.
  • Content Analytics is competing with open source software that comes with a price tag of $0, but is costly from a human-time perspective. Although human-time is valued, it's hard to see it.
  • Because Content Analytics is so good at making the user interface easy, it's sometimes more difficult to do more custom analysis.
  • Content Analytics does not run as quickly as other companies' analytics solutions.
IBM Content Analytics is well suited for organizations with the resources to invest a significant amount of energy in an advanced analytics engine. The software improved the productivity of analysts and programmers. The software is not suitable for companies that just want Excel-type analyses or that lack the capabilities of doing advanced analytics.
  • Content Analytics has been a positive ROI in that it made analysts more productive.
  • Content Analytics has been a negative ROI in some cases because it has a much smaller user base than other open source products. This smaller user base makes it more difficult to accomplish certain tasks.
  • Content Analytics has made text analytics more than delightful. I love it.
Perhaps the biggest advantage of IBM Watson Content Analytics is the IBM feel. I think IBM puts lots of resources into developing products that even sociologists can use. It's so easy, that to professionals wanting customized analysis, it might be kind of offensive. The drawback is that Content Analytics is not as fast as its competitors.

IBM Watson is in use by several of my clients as a text crawling and indexing system. The software does a superb job at indexing a large data set and providing those results in a very easily accessible format for end users. No document is lost or misplaced as it scans and indexes even within the body or file.
  • Impressive and efficient indexing system.
  • Rarely does the indexing have issues that need to rebuild/reindex.
  • Searches are almost instantaneous and end users can move on to the next task.
  • The software is semi-limited to indexing and searching.
  • Software does not force a specific "structure" as some document management systems do.
If one is looking for a content crawling search engine (think "Google" but on your own private system), IBM Watson does a great job. It is also very good for locating duplicate files/folders and lost items. If document organization and searching is the goal, IBM Watson hits the nail on the head.
  • Organized, easy to produce search results.
  • Never lose a document again.
IBM Watson is not quite in the same category as Worldox or NetDocuments as both are full-fledged document management. However, both vendors provide a similar searching and indexing product. Worldox provides searching and indexing but the Indexer is somewhat prone to issues. IBM Watson does not have the stability/consistency issues. NetDocuments is cloud-hosted document management and its index does not seem to have issues. That being said, there is a large premium as the data is all stored in a cloud container with the management system.
