We use Infoblox in multiple capabilities i.e. IPAM, DHCP and DNS resolver. If you are an organization that consists of more than one domain and host applications and websites then Infoblox is needed for DNS. When getting DNS module it makes so no sense to leave out IPAM as they both go hand in hand. It literally is a jack of all trades.
  • IP Management
  • DNS Domains
  • DNS Lookup
  • Support
  • UI/UX
  • Reports
It's hard to imagine a scenario where Infoblox is not needed or not well suited. It is on-prem so it will meet all the local data regulations. It come with both IP and DNS features hence it will replace two solutions at the same time.
  • DNS Resolved
  • IP Management
  • DHCP
  • Easy IP Reservation
  • DNS Local and Global Domains
  • Quick Subnet Creation
Cisco Umbrella only does DNS and not IP Management. Moreover, it's DNS is cloud based and requires a local dns resolver. So it makes no sense in having only Cisco Umbrella without infoblox.

We are using Infoblox DDI internal and external grid and internal grid. They help us with our DNS, DHCP, and IPAM infrastructure.
  • Infoblox DDI helps us with our DNS requests for internal and external networks
  • It helps us do IPAM functionality
  • It helps us with serving DHCP to the network sites and datacenters
  • The Infoblox DDI grid VMs require too much space, Processor, and memory, It needs to be skimmed a bit.
  • The OS used is NIOS and has very limited operations we can do on it. It adds a limitation to being scanned for vulnerabilities.
  • The support and migration require too much work and downtime.
We have been using Infoblox DDI for 10+ years at Pitney Bowes. The experience has improved gradually. As far as DNS and DHCP go, they are amongst the top ones offering this service. The support is great and downtime is minimal. The IPAM is always scanning the network to update the IP database. The caching servers reduce the lookups towards the internet. All in all, this is a must-have in every data center.
  • Internal DNS services, Internet name serves to cache.
  • IPAM management helps us assign new IP addresses and an overview of what is used.
  • DHCP helps with assigning IP addresses to networks and systems via DHCP
  • This is a crown piece of infrastructure for us. Downtime on this would cause a network down for us. Fortunately, this has been working well for us till now.
  • The support is also very good, Patching does require some downtime and reboots though
Infoblox DDI supports services across hybrid platforms and the capability to switch from appliances to VMs has added to the mobility of the applications. Setting up two grids(Internal and external) helps manage and segment the network in scopes of DNS and DHCP and apply firewall security policies over our external caching grid members.
