What is InqScribe?
InqScribe is a transcription software designed to streamline the transcription process and enhance productivity for individuals and businesses. According to the vendor, InqScribe caters to a wide range of company sizes, from freelancers and small businesses to large enterprises. It is utilized by professionals in various industries, including transcriptionists and captioning professionals, media and entertainment, research and academia, legal professionals, and market research.
Gamepad Compatibility: InqScribe supports USB input devices such as gamepads and joysticks, allowing users to control the software using their preferred device, according to the vendor.
Text Snippets: InqScribe's Snippets window enables users to enter frequently used snippets of text quickly and easily. Users can include the current time code from the video, making it convenient for them to insert time codes along with the text. Snippets can be assigned to custom keyboard shortcuts or selected from a list for easy insertion, the vendor says.
Smarter Time Codes: InqScribe allows users to enter time codes in various formats, including film, PAL, and NTSC (drop frame and non-drop frame). Time codes are color-coded in the transcript for easier locating, according to the vendor. The vendor also states that printing is WYSIWYG, preserving the time code colors when printing. Updating an existing time code is simplified with a click and the "Update Time" option in the Edit menu.
New Offline Media Options: InqScribe now supports note-taking during live events, allowing users to insert time codes based on their computer's clock or set up a custom stopwatch timer. This feature facilitates note-taking while recording footage and enables synchronization of notes with the recorded content, according to the vendor.
Same Great Price: According to the vendor, InqScribe 1.5 is a free update for existing owners of InqScribe 1.0.2.
Encoding Flexibility: Users can specify the encoding of imported text, instead of assuming it is UTF-8. The vendor states that text can be exported using different encodings, providing flexibility in file compatibility.
Enhanced Subtitle Export: According to the vendor, when exporting subtitles, InqScribe checks for duplicate and out-of-order time codes in the transcript and prompts the user to fix these issues. Language support for exported subtitles is expanded, with over one hundred languages available for association. Unicode support for exported subtitles improves cross-platform reliability and proper handling of non-Roman character sets.
Improved Error Handling and Feedback: InqScribe provides more informative error messages when exporting subtitles, finding linked media files, and when the Find command fails to locate anything. The vendor also claims to offer better feedback when the user attempts to export self-contained subtitled movies on Windows.
Enhanced Undo Support: According to the vendor, InqScribe now offers enhanced undo support, allowing users to easily revert changes and restore previous versions of the transcript.
Improved Compatibility and User Experience: InqScribe has fixed compatibility issues with Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and improved font usage for buttons on Windows. The vendor states that it also offers better support for multiple keyboard shortcuts on Windows and provides a more consistent dialog button order for Windows users.
