What is IntelliMagic Vision for SAN?

IntelliMagic Vision is multi-vendor SAN performance, capacity, and configuration analytics solution that uses domain specific artificial intelligence as well as statistical analysis to accurately assess the health of your VMware, Fabric and Storage infrastructure in order to proactively identify potential risks in your infrastructure as well as quickly resolve current risks through topology embedded root cause drill downs.

IntelliMagic Vision's AI-driven analytics continuously analyze the performance and configuration health of your environment and the easy-to-use graphical interface makes it easy to interact and perform root cause analysis when issues are automatically identified such as:

  • Storage array performance issues such as over-utilized and imbalanced ports and replication delays\
  • Zoning irregularities such as orphaned ports or hosts with single paths
  • Orphaned storage and wasted capacity
  • Capacity trending and forecasting

IntelliMagic Vision is interactive and customizable so you can add and edit your favorite reports, start at a 30,000-foot level view and drill down to the most granular level, safely share reports online via cloud links, compare historical data, export to PDF, PPT, or Splunk, and more.

Used by SAN and storage team. IntelliMagic Vision for SAN gathers performance metrics for both SAN and storage, and this allows reporting and performance monitoring and trending.
  • Performance metrics for multiple vendors and equipment models
  • Stability and reliability of the system
  • Ease of report creation
  • Additional reports needed for IBM SVC replication monitoring
  • Additional new equipment not yet monitored
  • Automated report generation and distribution is not easy to implement
  • Trending and projections into the future are needed
Performance metric gathering for storage units, SVC virtualization layer, and Brocade SAN switches/directors are rock solid. Built-in reports cover the most-used scenarios, and the report creation has been improved to let you build the custom reports not already covered.
  • IBM SVC performance gathering
  • Brocade SAN performance gathering
  • Ease and speed of reporting to help diagnose issues
  • Eliminated multiple reporting sources and consolidated to one
I used BMC Patrol long ago, and native tools from Brocade Network Advisor.

IntelliMagic Vision for SAN is much easier to implement than Patrol, and it's all-inclusive for everything--SAN, storage, SVC--so one source for all reporting.
Yes
IBM TPC (aka Tivoli Storage Productivity Center). TPC required a lot of care and feeding, including never-ending support cases with IBM to fix basic functionality and stability issues. We used it for years simply because it was the primary source for SVC performance details.

Intellimagic needs little ongoing maintenance and provides the same (if not better) in-depth performance metric details we need for IBM SVC reporting and diagnostics.

Would not change. We compared TPC with Intellimagic and Intellimagic did (and still does) come out much better with more features and ease of maintenance

We're using IntelliMagic Vision to identify capacity trends, errors in our SAN infrastructure, especially FC SAN switches, anomalies. We like the feature to compare the recent measured values against the same one week or one month before to identify trends and anomalies. With IntelliMagic Vision we will visualize any hidden errors and get them fixed before they may cause any outage.
  • Comparison of metrics from today to the day a week before to visualize any trends
  • drilldown into the end-to-end mapping from the individual host to the Storage pool on the DSS
  • Easy-of-use changing of reports/thresholds as needed
  • the interface could be a bit more modern
it's well suited for large-scale FC SAN fabrics with Storage arrays which are supported by Vision
  • drilldown and visualization of mapping between VM and the LUN on the DSS
Broadcom SANnav is being used as well but it has a different scope of features
Yes
I did already many upgrades in the last few years and each upgrade was very simple and straight forward with minimum downtime.
  • addition of new standard reports
  • changing the Collector from using BNA as source of data to collecting the data directly from the switches
  • modern interface
  • the reports which I requested from them being made standard reports

Intellimagic Vision for SAN is an excellent tool for our company as it tracks key IT metrics such as storage pool levels, read/write throughput, I/O Rate, etc., for our various vendor storage systems. Over time we are able to determine usage and growth.
  • gathers and provides detailed metrics when experiencing storage related problems
  • excellent reporting tool for SAN and storage
  • supports multiple vendors
  • I have not come across any
One of our SAN switches was experiencing high utilization and we were able to determine which slot and port on the switch was the problem using Intellimagic's reporting feature showing the top x utilization ports. IntelliMagic Vision for SAN reporting provided granular level data making it easy to work on the problem at hand.
  • Supports multiple vendors
  • Provides historical information
  • Reporting at the granular level
  • Dashboards containing specific system monitoring
  • Support for multiple vendor storage systems
  • the system is very reliable and upgrades are a breeze
Intellimagic provides granular data information, where as IBM Storage Insights does not.

We are a Disaster Recovery service provider and we provide DRaaS cloud-based services to our clients. We have a very mixed storage environment that services IBM Mainframe, pSeries (AIX), iSeries (AS/400) and x86 environments. Intellimagic monitors and reports across all of our storage platforms to quickly alert us to issues and historical capacity and performance information.
  • The reporting capabilities are some of the best in the industry
  • The granular metric details that are captured are extremely helpful when reviewing storage performance
  • The ability to link hosts to volumes and report on specific host performance based on volume performance is very helpful
  • Storage Area Network switch monitoring is critical to alerts such as buffer credit overflows
  • object storage reporting is missing
  • virtual hypervisor host storage reporting is missing
Intellimagic is well suited for any environment but particularly heterogeneous environments where you need a single reporting tool to tie together all of your storage arrays, storage fabric switches, and host endpoints to clearly and quickly see where you might have a problem.
  • reporting
  • alerting
  • the ROI value is in the speed to review issues and generate reports
