ipMonitor excels in monitoring EC2 instances on Amazon, providing highly responsive resource monitoring. It offers basic network and system monitoring functionalities that prove invaluable for small to medium networks, particularly in IT departments. Troubleshooting network and system problems becomes more efficient with ipMonitor, although it does not offer the same extensive functionalities as SolarWinds NPM. For IT departments seeking to oversee the status of network devices and minimize response time, ipMonitor saves time by providing automated monitoring similar to a NOC.

IT professionals rely on SolarWinds ipMonitor to monitor servers, services, and devices via SNMP and Ping protocols. The tool ensures server performance by tracking essential aspects such as ping response, resource usage, and service availability. In addition to observing performance, ipMonitor excels in detecting critical problems throughout the entire infrastructure of a business network. With its scalability and variety of tools and features, ipMonitor is utilized in PROD/DEV environments to manage IP addresses, DNS zones, VLAN zones, alert unresponsive services, and identify system failures.

The simplicity of setting up and configuring ipMonitor makes it an affordable choice for small and medium businesses. Users appreciate the product's simplicity and the support provided by SolarWinds. The best, most convenient way to explore and obtain information for certain demographics is via a user interface. The SolarWinds ipmonitor interface is simple and sophisticated all at once. Everything you need is conveniently shown in one place. It was rather cheap. Additionally, it needs some additional functionality. Otherwise, It is the perfect software for enterprises.

ipMonitor is well suited if you only want to monitor the server health, website responses, and applications health. ipMonitor serves you well in case you do not want to install agents in client machines as this will communicate through the SNMP port. In case, you need to customize the monitoring tool, you cannot perform it with ipMonitor. Adding host in ipMonitor may be a little tricky.

  • It is ideal to carry out the monitoring of the devices, servers and applications that are managed at the level of the business infrastructure, because it keeps them under supervision and alerts [us] to any change or the presence of the entry of an unknown device so that it does not their performance is affected.
  • It provides effective monitoring and provides high visibility of each of the devices and applications from a single console, making it ideal for observing where a problem comes from.
  • Its reports are very detailed so they are of great help to obtain critical information about each device, server or application.

SolarWinds ipMonitor is well suited in situation where customer do not wants to hold the responsibility of underlying monitoring infrastructure management such as Servers, Database, website and their high availability. And of course when you need Network, Servers, Services fault and performance monitoring. When you have specialized network monitoring requirement such as Configuration backup, netflow traffic analysis then this is not the right tool.

SolarWinds ipMonitor is very easy to set-up and use, but can be quite slow to execute. Therefore, I don't think it will work in a medium-to-large organisation. Also, the interface is not suited for 100s of devices. The customisibility could also be better, so enterprises that require strict branding rules need to look elsewhere.

SolarWinds ipMonitor can be used in small to medium sized environments. Can provide basic monitoring and easy to setup. Light Weight and easy to deploy and maintain. Provides decent analytics, dashboards and reports.

Is not useful for advanced monitoring or large sized environments. Does not integrate with other SolarWinds modules like SAM or VMAN.

ipMonitor is well suited where there is a requirement of SaaS based fault and availability monitoring requirement and where customers do not want to purchase heavy hardware's and software to run the show. All they have to do is to subscribe ipMonitor plan and start monitoring using the simple monitoring wizard. It also has a feature of auto remediation and hence much useful

It does a pretty decent job when it comes to monitoring. It is able to monitor a wide range of protocols/services (ICMP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP) and it has a good set of configurations for alerting. Of course, there are some 'more-flexible' tools and easier to manage, but SolarWinds ipMon is also a good choice.

I have been using ipMonitor for the past 10 years to successfully complete small to mid-size network projects by providing visibility of the network and the devices in addition to reporting to the client throughout the acceptance process. It has also proven to be a valuable resource when it comes to identifying network problems and improving overall network performance.

In lieu of having an actual NOC or a network/system admin or even using an outside service, ipMonitor performs like an additional team member tracking network devices making sure all your critical nodes are up and active. If you are looking for a fun, visually interesting interface that you want to reference on a daily basis, ipMonitor leaves some room for improvement there.

IPMon is well suited to monitor server resource usage and uptime. It does this job perfectly. If you want to get more involved custom alerting, it can get a little tricky. Also, the historical data is not stored in a way that is easily exportable for outside reporting.

Good for monitoring pings, SMTP, HTTP, HTTPS. The ping monitor has been critical for business operations. We can figure out very quickly if a building or floor is down. After ping, being able to monitor certain services has been helpful with different systems and deliverables for the IT team. Reporting is simple to configure and use effectively.

Checking to see if a service is responding or a specific port is available on servers is the best case where I see ipMonitor working well. In most cases, though, it is limited to a simple up or down situation without a lot of ability to customize an alert or the condition of an alert.

If you do small tests of DEV environments, then IPmonitor is a great solution. It is not suitable for large enterprise environments as the features and detail are simply not heavy enough to provide a full picture.

It really depends on what tools you have from SolarWinds and how you deploy and configure them to each environment. You don't want nonstop alarms from users' machines blipping a certain point on hardware or related. Once you have monitoring, when you have large projects utilizing and/or patches you need to remember, that monitoring may need to be disabled or tuned to not react to planned use on hardware networks.

For basic monitoring, ipMonitor is easy to configure and use. At the simpler end of the scale, I would highly recommend it. If you have a need for more advanced features and complexity like triggering scripts in response to events then another product might be required.
