Use Cases and Deployment Scope
Kaminario K2 is one of two all-flash storage arrays supporting the entire organization. Our environment is 99% virtualized using VMware vCloud Suite, including our Tier 1 applications and database servers. We protect our mission-critical systems by replicating real-time to our disaster recovery site containing a second K2, which also runs a small number of production workloads in addition to DR. We use hypervisor-based replication from Zerto to perform the replication and automated failover.

  • Data reduction is good, but not as good as expected (actual 2.7:1)
Likelihood to Recommend
K2 works well in our mixed-use virtual environment. I would not hesitate to place any workload on K2, it has always performed well. We use fiber-channel connectivity as it replaced our large legacy storage array, replacing one rack of spinning disks with 4U of flash.

Alternatives Considered
We performed a bake-off with K2 and one other vendor and they performed identically. K2 pricing was aggressive, performance was great, and it offered the features that we needed at a price that we could afford.
