Initially we purchased the Loadmaster to support the needs of the marketing website (performance and stability issues). But now it supports the whole organization to properly route requests to different systems for different groups of people. Loadmaster was instrumental in launching of the latest website iteration supporting the partial roll out alongside the mix of multiple systems. Content switching and header modification rules helped us overcome various challenges that we encountered. Powerful API lets us easily integration Loadmaster into our continuous delivery pipeline.
  • Performance
  • Powerful API
  • Variety of options
Cons
  • UI needs a refreshed modern look and feel
Loadmaster is very powerful and flexible load balancer. Variety of options allows to create a complex network of rules and routes. During our website rollout Loadmaster allowed us to run multiple generations of the website simultaneously and seamlessly by doing the content switching on the fly. Powerful API allows easy integration into any development lifecycle.

Our company has used Kemp LoadMasters for several years now for load balancing our Exchange servers and a couple of web applications. They run very smoothly, with no issues at all. Their support is great, which we only occasionally have recurred to for migrating web apps from other appliances to the Kemps. They are very knowledgeable and have been very helpful in completing our project goals. Would definitely recommend Kemp products.

  • Robust support
Cons
  • GUI could use some improvement
Any scenario that requires load balancing heavy traffic services, such as publicly accessible websites, email servers, FTP servers, databases, or even any internal services that might require a high availability setup.

Great product and even better support agents!

Kemp LoadMaster is generally used for our clients and internally. This is to help load balance Exchange HTTP and HTTPS traffic coming into the Exchange server. We also widely use this to have SMTP and SMTPS traffic load balanced as well. This way we have managed to control the kind of high load that is hitting the exchange server and have it at a much more managed level, routing it through Kemp LoadMaster.
  • It is easy to set up the virtual services with templates that are readily available.
  • Once the setup of the virtual services is complete, getting the service to work is also, most of the time, pretty seamless.
  • When all else fails and doesn't work, the support team is usually just a call away, and I've almost always had a good experience calling them for support.
Cons
  • The wait time on the calls can sometimes be quite disappointing. I have waited on calls for over 30 minutes in the past before an agent answers the call.
  • For some weird reason, every time a support agent starts a remote session, our call gets disconnected. And it can sometimes be a bit of a pain to call back and speak to the same agent, as sometimes we haven't been given a ticket number as well and will have to explain the issue over again to the new agent who picks up the call. This issue happened on this call as well. Maybe it'd be good to provide ticket numbers at the start of the call?
  • Maybe it is the type of microphones the agents use or because everyone is working at home currently (mostly), but the voice clarity of the call could be improved, as sometimes its difficult to hear what the agent is saying.

It, Kemp LoadMaster, is being used to load balance the data across our network to increase capacity (concurrent users) and reliability of applications. It is also used to provide an extra layer of protection of our data on our network to minimize access to bad actors trying to access our environment for exploitation.
  • Keeps data flow leveled throughout our network.
  • Helps us monitor stress on our network with data and apps.
  • Support is superb when needing help with technical issues.
Cons
  • Having dashboard will show which system is acting as Master or Secondary.
  • Have report format clearer to isolate data.
  • Kemp LoadMaster allows the option to pause renewal emails when an order is in process of renewal.
Our Kemp LoadMaster helps us evaluate how, and if the load of data is flowing evenly, and if resources are adequately allocated to critical network servers.

Great move to more enterprise grade direction from a free-of-charge open source app

We are using Kemp LoadMaster within our organization in different departments for different products running highly available infrastructure and requiring significant scaling. We moved from a well-known but smaller and free open-source project to something more enterprise-grade, professional, and potentially even more reliable. We are happy with Kemp LoadMaster's deployment process that felt logical and didn't have any surprises. We were able to create a HA configuration with the tool without any help, consultation, or even manuals, which always tells a great story about a good UI.
  • Installation procedure
  • Creating the configuration for HA
  • Being stable and efficient
Cons
  • Documentation should be more concise and to the point.
  • There should be an LTE type of release train available.
  • Use in Linux environments should be supported better.
In Windows application environments for enterprise-grade, highly available applications demanding serious scaling, Kemp LoadMaster is a great choice. It has easy installation and good default settings. In Linux application environments Kemp LoadMaster doesn't shine, though. Kemp LoadMaster can be deployed in a virtual infrastructure including VMware vcloud / ESXi but should be deployable elsewhere as well.
