We use it to provide custom websites to any kind of business. Kentico 8 offers the easy access of content on an admin and onsite level without requiring the expertise of years and training of programming that so many content management systems demand. I personally have used five of the most popular content management systems, and Kentico 8 is the only affordable option that provides the quality and ease of use that most businesses require.
  • Page Templates. I've never used any other CMS with the ease of use in creating and reusing the same template across multiple pages.
  • User management and security. This is very straightforward and simple when all you want is basic security for your content managers, but it's also granular if you need it to be. Allowing access or denying access to virtually any control or object in the site, or on the administrator side without the need of custom code
  • Keeping Custom code to a minimal level when using the portal engine. The Webparts that are built in cover 80% of all business needs, and customizing the rest is a breeze since it is built around .net.
  • The learning curve is much faster than with other systems such as Ektron, or Sitecore.
  • Custom modules are really cool if you want to package custom code to reuse on different sites and for the community
  • Global event handlers to hook into any change that is made on any document or object in the system. You can literally add any code you want and attach it to any event you want.
  • Automated Marketing in this system is rivaled by no other CMS
  • A/B variant tests are excellent for determining traffic on the site.
  • The Shopping Cart feature can use some work. There are excellent modules that make up for this, and I hear the next version has improved this, but nonetheless it is still lacking in the ways it can be customized
  • Calendar controls have to be highly customized to make it work right and look good.
  • The integration bus doesn't make sense for importing, and is lacking in documentation.
If someone wants a quick and easy site for under $1k, it's not for them. Kentico 8 is for businesses. Someone who wants a proper website, not just a few static pages.

  • Increased employee efficiency because of the ease of use.
  • Faster lead conversion because of the advanced EMS features that Kentico 8 provides.
  • Better Customer Service. Kentico 8 has a guaranteed 7 day bug fix policy.
I've used Sitecore, Ektron, Joomla!, WordPress, and SharePoint (if you want to count that as a competitor for CMS). Kentico 8 blows them all out of the water. Nothing is more intuitive in the way that content is created, the way the site is setup, and how efficient rollouts can be with Content Staging.

It depends on what kind of Kentico application you are supporting. All instances need some sort of .net/css/javascript/SQL knowledge. Beyond that we use different technologies with our sites.
  • Building out websites for people who want to sell their product.
  • Building websites for people who want to grab leads.
  • Building websites for people who want to easily update content.
  • We've setup our intranet to utilize Kentico 8, and have built our infrastructure an data collecting system to utilize the features that Kentico 8 provides.
  • Our clients are constantly asking for new features that we never expect. Because of the way Kentico 8 has setup custom modules, it makes it easy for use to satisfy their needs.
  • This is our core industry in the way of making our clients happy. We plan on contributing to Kentico and making this an even better product.
I don't see the industry producing a better product than this anytime soon after using many other of the CMS platforms out there.
  • Creating and using Page Template
  • The Portal Engine in general is extremely easy to figure out because of the visual display of what you are changing
  • On Site Editing
  • User Security
  • Shopping Carts
  • Incoming Integration Bus Tasks
  • Managing Staging Tasks with Database-Only changes
Yes, but I don't use it
They are Excellent, but not perfect, there are a couple of minor features they have that I would [like to] see them improve upon.

Kentico 8 is our preferred tool of choice when it comes to building enterprise class websites. My company, BizStream, has built over 100 web sites and applications with the platform. The sites that we create with Kentico 8 service B2B and B2C focused organizations that are looking to take their web sites to the next level. We use Kentico 8 because we feel it is the best ASP.NET CMS that fully integrates CMS, E-commerce, Online Marketing, and Intranet all in one. The platform also allows us to deliver our sites on time and on budget because it is leaps and bounds faster to develop in than other similar products in the space. Delivering a high quality web site is the main business problem that Kentico 8 solves for us.
  • Ease of use for the developer, content authors, and internet marketers that use it. The user interface in Kentico 8 truly is amazing and easy to pick up with no training.
  • Strong customization and integration capabilities, including the built in REST service, Integration Bus, and elegant API. I love the fact that if there is anything not in the box we can use the system to extend it or connect it to any CRM, ERP, or other third party service very easily.
  • Large out of the box functionality. There is an extremely high level of value that the platform provides. Instead of having to build extra modules for things like Event Booking, Forums, Polls, or E-commerce, they are already there for us to use.
  • Ability to control the HTML output of the site at a very fine level. Creating HTML5 is very easy in Kentico and implementing any design, as responsive, is totally possible in the system.
  • The ability to get a very high level of insight into the visitors journey through the website and market back to them with the Contact management, Lead Scoring, and Marketing Automation modules is very impressive.
  • The scalablity of the system is impressive. Running a very highly trafficked web site is totally possible with Kentico and its strong caching and web farm capabilities.
  • The support that Kentico provides is top notch, 24/7 global support is included with any purchase, 7 day bug fix policy, and excellent documentation
  • The development community is engaged and ready to help if you are a developer learning Kentico, and the Kentico partner community is very strong as well.
  • NET MVC has a way to go still in Kentico.
  • Some of the older modules that have existed in previous versions of Kentico have some dated HTML markup that makes responsive a challenge.
  • Some of the intranet modules are fairly week in terms of scalability. The document library, projects, and tasks functionality are not that great and ill suited for large uses.
Are you currently using ASP.NET technology stack? If so do you need to integrate with any third party systems? If so this is the right tool for you. Are you looking to move into the cloud, specifically the Azure cloud? If so Kentico 8 is set up extremely well to play nice with the cloud. Do you need to have a digital marketing solution for your site? Kentico 8 provides an excellent all in one solution for this.

  • Kentico has positively impacted my business objectives. It has allowed me to deliver solutions that my customers truly love. They have commented over and over how easy it is to manage their web sites with the admin interface.
  • Using Kentico has allowed me finish projects on time and under budget which is good for my company's bottom line.
  • We used to use many different CMS platforms to deliver solutions including Ektron, SharePoint, Sitecore, open source, and fully custom. However, once we started using Kentico their was no looking back.
When compared to the above solutions the value that Kentico offers is much higher when compared to the price of these other solutions. Kentico will do 90% of what Sitecore and Ektron and Adobe do, and those other solutions will do 90% of what Kentico does. In my opinion they basically do all of the same thing these days. So when it comes down to paying for that functionality why would you pay up to 2, 4, or 10x more?
No
We don't need premium support when the support level is so high already.
They truly are amazing with how fast they get back to us on issues. Almost all of the time the support team is able to answer our issues with direct and to the point information.
Yes
Yes it was, and they even planted a tree in my name! They have a pretty cool Trees for Bugs program.
We had an issue with the Smart Search capabilities of Kentico. After submitting the issue to support it took 2 tries but they eventually came back with the fact that we had the wrong search files selected for the content type that we were trying to search, plus the wrong type of smart search indexer. Once we changed the built in settings to more accurately reflect the type of searching that we wanted to perform, the search worked great.
  • The main navigation of the admin interface, it is easy to get around the system and find exactly what I need.
  • The multi lingual aspect of the system is well represented in the UI. You can see what culture you are on in the Pages application and quickly compare other cultures as needed. I love the split screen comparison feature in the UI as well.
  • The Pages application is the main application inside of Kentico. It is extremely well setup to show your web sites' content hierarchy. The big edit, preview, live site buttons allow you to easily switch between editing content, and seeing the final result.
  • The custom table interface is well done and combine that with the Forms engine it is very quick and easy to generate forms and tables to store data and customize the fields and form controls however I want.
  • Moderating blog comments is a little tough.
  • Creating email templates could be better, they are a big difficult for marketers to create without a developer.
Yes, but I don't use it
It works ok in on-site editing mode, but your website needs to be created in a responsive way. Honestly we don't use it that much. Who edits their website on a mobile phone anyway?
It seriously is one of the best interfaces I have ever used. I also love the fact that I can use UI personalization to secure any functionality by user or role that I don't want that role to have access to. The best part is the customization of the UI, I can add in any button, tab, or menu item I want through it, no code required.
Working with the Kentico sales team, partner team, or development support channels is awesome. I have worked with all of them for over 5 years. They truly care about getting you the right solution to your problem. Anytime I have an issue I feel that they are there to help. If email doesn't work we even sometimes jump right on Skype and hash it out.
After the sale Kentico has always offered to help out in any way that they can.
I have been able to negotiate on total price, training services, and consulting services.
Share with them your whole story, and let them know the goal for your implementation right up front. They will be able to easily tell you which license you should purchase and why.

We use Kentico to manage two brand sites. One site is available in 23 language variations with the other being translated currently. It's used by the Marketing and IT departments for content publishing. It easily manages all the language variations we have for the different countries and users.
  • Translations and Language Management - with UI Culture Strings you can specify anything you want to be easily replaced with a language variation
  • User Management - Roles and Rights management is deep, but once you learn it's a powerful tool.
  • Search index is fantastic out of the box
  • UI is too busy but seems to be addressed in v8
  • Ability to define a global site and not have language unique pages show up for translation would be helpful for a large global company
  • Better blog and tagging
I've already recommended Kentico and know for a fact one local company has redesigned their site using Kentico.
  • Increased translation and markets keeping content up to date.
  • Easier to maintain site wide changes - such as navigation as compared to our old system.
  • Customer can now search and browse our entire product line (over 500 products) which they couldn't do before.
  • WordPress,Ektron Web Content Management System
Kentico is to most full featured for large corporate sites needing multiple versions. WordPress may update more frequently, but Kentico has released 2 updates in the 2+ years I've been using it, which is fantastic.
Good support and great features. Honestly, we wouldn't switch to something else this early in the life cycle if we weren't happy but it's a great system.
