I have used CodeIgniter in the past for a couple of projects. As per my experience, we can go for CodeIgniter for smaller projects due to its simplicity. But as the project size grows, one should choose a more organized framework with larger community support. This is the reason I prefer Laravel PHP Framework over other frameworks is I have mostly worked on big projects.

The majority of the above-mentioned frameworks are good at some particular things. Laravel PHP Framework in general is capable of doing all the same things with standard best practices. Additionally, Laravel PHP Framework brings great community support that is ever-growing. the community has now developed a whole ecosystem around it. When the stacks are Web Apps, your can bet Laravel PHP Framework will never disappoint you.

Laravel is much better than CodeIgniter in many aspects, First of all it is more secure and robust. It has a great troubleshooting mechanism. They have added more libraries, themes and plug-ins for different purposes. The MVC model helped the developers to get rid of writing same code again and again.

  • .NET
Both frameworks, by in large, serve the same needs and are only dependent upon the platform that will be supported. However, I find .Net to be a bit more robust when it comes to data security needs (encryption, management, etc.) compared to Laravel and that may be a deciding factor when building an application.

Originally, it was a decision between Zend, CodeIgniter, and CakePHP for me. I chose CakePHP and used it as my main PHP framework for at least a couple of years before noticing and giving Laravel a fair try. Ultimately I selected Laravel because I felt it fit with my preferred development style, it utilized many of the modern best-practices I wanted to follow, and I felt that it allowed me to build better things in less time that seemed more maintainable.

I have used, and still do use, Symfony directly for certain things, but I think of it (and use it) more as a code library than as a full application framework. When I'm building a web application, I tend to prefer Laravel.

Laravel PHP Framework is the most developed, updated framework right now, with lots of features. Using older versions is less appreciated by the developer community. It is well documented, and Laravel has a pretty big community of supporters getting your query solved faster and easier. Migrating databases is also easier with it. It takes security as an important part in its development also.

Supporting unit testing is bigger plus point in Laravel than any other framework. Developing with Laravel is much easier. Other frameworks have value in market, but Laravel has taken the lead in popularity among PHP developers in recent years. The large community supports you if you have problems. Using Laravel, integration became easy with third-party libraries, but it was costly too.

If you are using PHP, you should be using Laravel! It is superior in every way to CodeIgniter & CakePHP. Not to be unfair to Cake & CodeIgniter, which both have built in ORM, making queries very simple. Laravel on the other hand offers their eloquent ORM that makes database relations simple. The foremost reason why Laravel is the best framework and has an edge over other frameworks is that it is very configurable, and has an inbuilt, fast and extendable blade template engine, making it easier for Laravel developers to add the features with no need of hacking the core or modifying pre-existing CORE files which need to be re-updated as the user upgrades to newer releases of the software. Laravel also wins in ease of use - for its easy to use Artisan CLI, easy readability and scope for developer's creativity. Pagination in Laravel is much easier, as it generates a clever "range" of links. While CakePHP is more famous with blog sites, Laravel, on the other hand, is ideal for bigger projects and also for projects that need continuous maintenance even after they are launched.

Laravel PHP Framework is continuously updating its framework and developing new tools to make web development more useful, optimized, and bug-free. Also there is a large community of users on Stack Overflow and other websites that can help you get questions cleared up quickly. Authenticated and built with a wide range of logic to make it useful for the future also. Laravel PHP Framework updates their product frequently and which products doesn't helps you get more features.

When we were using CodeIgniter, it always felt that something is missing. We were unable to find the proper libraries that supports it and the support from the community around. Once we came to know about Laravel, we never have touched CodeIgniter. Laravel is a well documented and has thousands of community developed packages that allowed us to fulfill our requirements. Also Laravel has most of features inbuilt such as Authentication, Database Management, Caching, Sessions, Jobs, Workers and many more. We're quite happy to use it in our organization.

In my experience, if a development team is using an MVC framework that's not Laravel, they're doing one of two things:

1. Using an older framework like Code Igniter, CakePHP, or one of the many dozen others
2. Using an in-house system built by one of the (possibly former) team members.

That's if they're using an MVC framework, at all. More often is the case that the development team writing PHP applications for a company is small and inexperienced, and they're slinging code together that just barely works without any sort of structure or regard to future maintenance at all.

Laravel is a framework that is so well documented that it is approachable by inexperienced developers. It's widely used by all levels of developers, and the community is so large, that finding talent to grow your team becomes a much easier proposition. By utilizing Laravel, you're putting into place a base system that is very well understood by many. Bringing new developers up to speed becomes a much less time-intensive task than it used to be when all "frameworks" were built in-house and anyone new to a team had to learn that framework before they could work on a new application.

The older frameworks have fallen out of favor, and while still have a lot of resources available, are not moving forward with technology trends (or are moving forward much more slowly). Laravel has proven that it will stay current with development trends, allowing you to leverage newer technology for your business.

Laravel is built on top of Symfony so is naturally a better upgrade. It is far superior than cake and igniter (in my opinion). I don't remember, but somewhere in internet someone made a comparison with Laravel and others as racing motor-bike vs a cycle. Because of large codebase, Laravel is slower than other frameworks, but the maintainability makes up for the slower speed, plus there are ways to make Laravel faster, but it will take some expertise to do it.

I inherited Laravel projects originally created by other developers. I haven't migrated clients at this time, however as the project gets bigger and I need to find more elaborate workarounds to address needs that option will be put on the table.

The best comparison I can make is against Symfony. It's curious that Laravel is built on top of Symfony. They chose the packages that they found to be useful. Symfony for instance comes with way too much stuff that in the end you never use, and Laravel just comes with the right stuff. If you need more, just use composer to add dependencies or write your own business logic classes.
