Ease of Use: Users have found Target X to be easy to use, especially in terms of programming. They appreciate the intuitive and user-friendly interface that makes it easy to navigate and perform tasks quickly. Some users have specifically highlighted the ease of programming as a positive aspect of the application.
Support and Robust Back End: Users have praised the support and robust back end provided by Target X. The implementation consultants assigned during the initial stages were highly regarded for their out-of-the-box thinking and prompt responses to issues. This level of support has been appreciated by users who value the assistance received from knowledgeable consultants.
Integration Capabilities: Users have commended the integration capabilities of Target X. The seamless integration with apps from other vendors enhances the functionality of their own tools, providing users with a comprehensive solution. Additionally, users appreciate the eagerness of Target X support in answering questions, resolving issues, and continuously improving their tools through regular updates.
Confusing and Difficult User Interface: Users have consistently found the user interface of the software to be confusing and difficult to navigate. Numerous reviewers have expressed frustration with the different eras of interface design and the lack of integration with Salesforce CRM, making it challenging for them to find the features they need.
Quirks in System Functionality: Some users have mentioned encountering quirks in the system functionality. For instance, checklist items sometimes get checked off incorrectly, leading to errors in task completion. Additionally, there are difficulties reported when using the texting campaign feature, which hampers efficient communication with students.
Lack of Adequate Support and Documentation: A significant number of users have highlighted growing pains in terms of service and support. They feel that there is a lack of information regarding the review and evaluation process for user-submitted ideas. Furthermore, while quick responses from the user community and support staff are appreciated by many users, some have experienced ongoing bugs even after several years of implementation. They find the support and instruction documents provided to be insufficient in addressing their issues effectively.
Based on user reviews, users recommend the following when using TargetX:
-
Clarify business processes first and utilize TargetX to enhance efficiency rather than replicating existing systems.
-
Ensure buy-in from leadership and staffing to support the implementation of TargetX.
-
Understand and train on the differences between Salesforce and TargetX and understand the roles of users and administrators.
Other recommendations include attending to compliance, involving IT support, paying for full implementation upfront, customizing TargetX with group input, considering alternative options like Slate, researching Salesforce HEDA features, planning for system integration, and evaluating larger tech needs before adopting TargetX.

TargetX is a great value and offers a full suite!
TargetX provides a suite of products that sit on top of, and customize, Salesforce for the Higher Education market.
TargetX's email platform is a key benefit, as well as their online application.
Their SMS and Print products are newer and still need some capacity.
- Bulk Email
- Analytics
- Event Management
- 3rd party product bundling & support
- Acquisition by Liaison has decreased customer/account support
- Native SMS is not fully capable
- Moving products from 3rd party (like Conga Connect) to internal (TargetX Print) has decreased capability.
TargetX works great for multiple departments, but will need to be somewhat modified to make sure each department has the data security they need.
TargetX know enrollment, and does a good job putting together the pieces needed.
Due to the way it is customized on Salesforce, it is very hard to use some 3rd party Salesforce AppExchange tools as they expect the data to be in a different model.
- All the needed products in one bundle
- Efficient and customizable Online Application
- Knowledgeable tech support.
- Salesforce is everywhere - very easy to get support and how to do thing.
- Increases in enrollment!
- More efficient funnel
- Slate and by Technolutions
TargetX, however, is not a closed system. Slate is just Slate. If you need anything added to it (like data import connectors), you have to have Slate add it.
TargetX, on the other hand, is build on Salesforce. There are almost an umlimited supply of products that are easily accessible to download or build to do whatever you want in Salesforce. Even if TargetX went out of business, the Enrollment funnel would still exist on Salesforce.
Slate is likely somewhat better in pure enrollment mode - as it is developed solely for that purpose. TargetX is built on a Sale platform so sometimes things seem a little awkward.
