Essential for Non-profits!
They are essentially both helpful tools to non-profits. I will say Blackbaud Luminate Online seems to have more resources and data available than the likes of Slipcase and most of its competitors. The features on Blackbaud Luminate Online differentiate it from all the other platforms that do the same thing. We selected Blackbaud Luminate Online because we actually upgraded from Slipcase due top the positive things we heard about Blackbaud Luminate Online.

[I feel] Luminate has a less evolved feature set and a significantly more closed ecosystem, limiting the uses cases dramatically.

Luminate Online - essential tool for nonprofit email marketing
CrowdRise and it's peer-to-peer fundraising model is much more out of the box user-friendly, in areas like the following: setup / dashboards / page creation / registration for participants or donors. However, in the end, their integration with a CRM is limited to CSV file uploads of imports / exports (at least in our experience).

Luminate Online Review
Luminate Online allows organizations to have a website hosted through any chosen platform and hosting service without affecting your donation forms, emailing platform, etc. Through Luminate Online, you can have a, say WordPress hosted site, while maintaining donation/event registration forms' integration with Raiser's Edge. NetCommunity was the all-in-one kind of platform. It was your website, email communications and donation/registration. It did not allow organizations the freedom that is sometimes needed to enhance their websites and other online marketing efforts. Metric reports were very limiting. We chose to go with Luminate Online because we wanted a website that was independent from our "transactional" pages allowing us to have freedom with design and functionality. We also wanted a product that fully integrated with Raiser's Edge.
Luminate Online replaced an in-house option.

New to Luminate
The products I've used that compare to Luminate are also Blackbaud products- Blackbaud NetCommunity and Sphere: Friends Asking Friends. Luminate Online certainly has more advanced functionality but could still benefit from an interface update and modernization. The choices can be cumbersome and clunky and the out of the box features are sometimes too lengthy.

We have used Artez/Frontstream for donation pages and peer to peer but it doesn't seem to offer the flexibility and donor experience as well as Luminate Online does. Emailing is limited and user experience for peer to peer is basic. Not as much support or interest in helping to make your organization as successful as it can be.

Ruminate about Luminate
Before I was hired here, Benefactor was used. The decision was made to change from that because it could not handle our needs. Luminate had the most options and was a leader in the fundraising field. It has definitely helped us grow our fundraising and has all the modules in one spot. This saves us from having to have disparate systems and getting all the data into one database. In using Luminate and RE, we only have to worry about two systems working together instead of five.

Luminate: Great for the correctly sized operation
We've just begun evaluating other programs to see if there is an equivalent to Luminate. We are particularly interested in email management and have looked at Constant Contact, MailChimp, and other similar services. While we like the data management options that these products provide, we are still trying to decide whether direct interaction Luminate and Raiser's Edge have is worth giving up.

Luminate great in theory and has potential - but it needs some investment quickly to be cutting edge & user friendly
Constant Contact is user-friendly and effective, as is SurveyMonkey, so LO would be advantaged to replicate some of their positive features.

Loving Luminate
I've looked at Give2Together and Salsa. The reality is that I have been using Luminate for over a decade and I really like the platform. I wouldn't consider using a different program.
The Luminate Online platform is more modern, more elegant, and more user friendly than NetCommunity. However, its back-end falters in comparison because of poor Raiser's Edge implementation. While both platforms are heavily templated, NetCommunity is a bit easier for non-professionals to tinker with than Luminate Online due to how pages are structured.

Celebrating a Decade with Luminate Online
We have not used other products for our website and donor management. However, we do have experience with WordPress (our blog), but it's not focused on the non-profit sector. We have been with Luminate for a decade and are very pleased with the system. We have seen many improvements over the years and are looking forward to see more.
