What is Mailshake?

Mailshake is a suite of tools for teams sending sales emails, including pre-written emails, follow-up scheduling and send controls, merge fields and customization / personalization, in-built monitoring, and both an API and Zapier integrations, notably with Gmail and Google Suite.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Mailshake for all of our cold prospecting email campaigns. We have implemented prospecting campaigns for tradeshows and recruiting for market research studies. Prior to using Mailshake, we were putting our domain at risk by emailing cold prospects. We are now confident in our outreach. Our open rates have skyrocketed, and our campaigns have been very successful.

Pros

  • The ability to monitor and maintain multiple campaigns at a time.
  • The interface is very user friendly.
  • The ease of turning campaigns on and off, changing sequences, and adding contacts.
  • The ability to save previous sequences as templates for later use.
  • The CRM-like function of storing prospects and being able to see which campaigns they are in.

Cons

  • I'd like to be able to update a contact's email address without having to create a new contact.
  • I wish there was an easier way to tell which prospects interact with drip emails.
  • Searching for prospect interactions within date ranges does not work properly.
  • I wish there was a way to prioritize campaigns. For example, I want campaign A to have precedence over all other campaigns. The sequence should run on days 1, 3, and 5, while campaigns B and C run if there is additional sending permitted on those days or in between and after those days. Right now, you have to manually configure sending calendars and manually turn campaigns on and off to get the settings you want.

Return on Investment

  • We have very hard-to-reach prospects for many of our projects, and Mailshake has enabled us to reach those targets. We have achieved 100% recruitment for the market research studies for which we used the platform.
  • Our open rates have stayed consistently above 40% for cold prospecting!

Great product, not a fit for us tho

Pros

  • It has an email editor which is easy to use.
  • Email sequences are comprehensive in their functionality--all the options you would expect from a cold emailing solution
  • Campaign and List management are also good

Cons

  • When editing email templates and adding them to campaigns, sometimes the process you have to go through to save it properly is confusing.

Return on Investment

  • I'd say it was a net negative for us because the initiative did not lead to sales for us. It was probably HOW we were using it, and not the fault of the product itself. If you have luck with cold emails, and just need a new platform, Mailshake could be a great, and inexpensive option. Our loss was mostly employee time, and learning what doesn't work for us is a positive in the end.

Pros

  • Saving time by sending pre-defined follow up messages to those who do not open the email or respond.
  • Great detailed stats in the dashboard.
  • Integration with CRM for automatic import of leads.
  • Great deliverability of emails with G Suite integration.

Cons

  • The CRM integration is only with Zapier (extra steps and costs).

Return on Investment

  • Time savings by automating the lead generation process.
  • Improved open rates of email campaigns resulting in more conversations started and better ROI.
  • Professional approach makes our company and brand more reputable.

An effective tool for cold email outreach

Pros

  • The tool is very easy to set up. Once the list of recipients is ready, it takes only minutes to start sending the emails.
  • Offers Zapier enabled integrations for more advanced automation of campaigns.
  • The scheduling of emails to ensure the domain is not flagged for sending to many emails at once.

Cons

  • Mailshake works only with Gmail/G Suite accounts.
  • The only option for customizing emails is in the CSV file. It would be great if there were a feature in the tool for this.
  • Missing starts about the total number of opens of an email (it is only tracked once).

  • Pricing has gotten more expensive in the past year.
  • Only works with Gmail or G Suite accounts.

  • Mailshake has made link building outreach less messy and saves time.
  • Fill in the template and prospects and we are good to go!
