I use MATLAB in many of my courses. Currently, I am using it in an advanced math modeling course (to solve systems of differential equations) and in an advanced mathematical software course. The interface is fairly intuitive and the programming structures are easy to understand, making this software an ideal way to teach mathematical programming to students. MATLAB is a package that many of the students will find in their workplaces when they get out in industry.

Engineering, mathematical modeling, and machine learning are all fields where MATLAB will shine. It's fast, reliable, and relatively easy to use. MATLAB is the de facto standard when it comes to producing high-quality plots. If you need to deal with large data sets, and not take forever processing them, MATLAB may very well be the tool for you!

  • Easy to use way of finding numerical solutions to differential equations
MATLAB is pretty easy to use. You can extend its capabilities using the programming interface. Very flexible capabilities when it comes to graphical presentation of your data (so many different kinds of options for your plotting needs). Anytime you are working with large data sets, or with matrices, MATLAB is likely to be very helpful.

It's being used in a project to design GUIs for an ECG. We currently know there are better programs to design user interphases but Matlab suits our needs for this small project.
  • Easy to use and detect mistakes
  • There's a lot of documentation about almost anything
  • It's full of Apps with a wide range of options
  • The forums and help platforms are really useful and full of people willing to help
  • Great debugger
  • GUIs could be better/prettier
  • Some of the apps are not well explained or are not as user-friendly as the could be
  • There are some port configuration bugs when connecting to Arduino that could be fixed
Matlab is great for beginners, because of it's ease of use and all the documentation available. Also, it's debugger tool really helps when finding an error, mainly when you don't know where you program is crashing. The GUIs App is really easy to use when you've never made a GUI and the growth curve is not high. I think is a really powerful program.

  • It was actually used for an intern project so it had no impact on our business objectives, except when achieving building an ECG
Matlab is faster, more complete, easier to use and with better documentation comparing with the previously mentioned programs. I haven't used Anaconda that much, but I felt more comfortable with Matlab rather than using Python for this project specifically. Its coding language is clearly simpler.

I think it's great for beginners and really easy to learn, with all the documentation available.
