The price is always right - free. Of course, a donation is accepted and it looks as if the developers have made the most of such. In addition, you are in control and own all the data.

Well, now I am just simply used to using Piwik and I haven't run into a competing product lately that has tempted me away. Upgrades are easy and creating modules for Piwik isn't that hard, so I will stick with it.

As stated before, Piwik is a great in-house or community alternative to Google Analytics. It allows you to tailor your usage data to your needs. Since it is a free application, the license will be renewed.

Piwik makes it easy to see which social networks are most effective for you, and the mobile data is great too. Add to this the depth of data and excellent reporting, and you have several reasons to give Piwik a try.

At this point, there is not a single conceivable reason as to why we would not renew and continue to use Piwik Analytics. Especially since it is a free program and open source. The product will only get better over time as more people look into it and donate to cause so that development can continue.

Given, that I do not make a decision wherever to buy the product, I think the biggest culprit would be name recognition (that Piwik currently lacks compared to Google Analytics and such). Also, not to put it into negative light, but being "free" raises eyebrows, as being a lesser software

I am hopeful that after our beta test internally that we will roll Piwik out on a wider range. I feel that it has given us the necessary tools and flexibility with regards to customer performance, reporting, adaptability and security. It also helps that we can host this platform completely in-house without any additional costs outside of the hardware.

I would, if I were still part of this project, renew and continue my usage of Piwik. It met all our needs, saved us money and we were able to customize it to suit our needs. Generally speaking, the product was more than efficient for its use and very pleasant to work with.

Other alternatives that have been proven to be more efficient in the marketplace are out there. Also Google Tag Manager and companies like BrightTag seem to be doing a fair job with tracking implementation aggregation.

What is Matomo Analytics (formerly Piwik)?

Matomo is an open-source web analytics platform, used on over 1.4 million websites in over 190 countries and translated into over 50 languages. Matomo says it values privacy protection, 100% data ownership and no data sampling.

It has two different hosting options - cloud and on-premise. Cloud takes the hassle out of installation, whereas On-Premise is the free, open-source and self-hosted PHP/MySQL software you can install on your own server, which gives you max. flexibility.

This premium web analytics and conversion optimisation tool is designed to give you the most conclusive insights with a complete range of features such as heatmaps, sessions recordings, goals, form analytics, ecommerce and funnels.
