Matrix is the Enterprise or Agency level search engine optimization platform formerly developed and owned by Barcelona based company Intelligent SEO which was recently (Jan. 2014) acquired by American company Insequent, Inc to expand their offerings. Matrix presents the full panoply of SEO features, like search ranking and tracking, keyword and backlink monitoring and suggestions, site audit, competitor tracking and head-to-head comparison with the home team, also a landing page generator, and many reporting features, with the capability of presenting and forecasting the optimal SEO approach, organic and PPC, for your enterprise or (if you're an agency) your clients' enterprises.

A free 30-day trial is fully featured sans user management and custom reports, after which pricing begins at $115 per month with the Audit & Tracking edition. The Business pack, for $315 per month, expands with the landing page generator and more advanced roadmapping and forecasting, as well as greater volume of site management and keyword research, and more users. Finally, For Agencies, is the edition eponymously directed at Agencies for $625, and includes custom (white label) reporting.

Should this be too much software, Insequent Inc also offers Leadzer, an SEO platform also developed originally by Intelligent SEO and acquired by Insequent in 2014, for a leaner, SMB-targeted offering.

Ahrefs is an SEO tool providers. Ahrefs Site Explorer provides a suite of tools including a component for backlink & on-page SEO analysis, online brand mentions tracking, and domain comparison tool for competitor analysis, etc. They refer to themselves as “the largest index of live backlinks.”

Semrush is a relatively popular search engine optimization tool set from the company of the same name based in Pennsylvania and founded in 2008. Largely the platforms relies on competitive intelligence, and features SEO staples like backlink checking, keyword analysis to refine SEO and PPC campaigning and locate low-cost / high-yield keywords, analysis of competitors who co-occupy desired ad and listing spaces, domain vs. domain analysis, as well as site audit and domain tracking.

Semrush can be acquired for as little as $69.95 on a monthly basis (with a 7-day money back guarantee in place of a free trial) with the Pro pack, up to $549.95 per month with the Business pack; features and tools are the same across tiers, only usage limits change. Discounts are available for annual subscription. Semrush boasts well-known users, like Forbes, Paypal, Wells Fargo, and many marketing agencies.

Matrix allows us to have the SEO integration that our business needed to interact and attract customers. We started using it through a company that does all of our digital marketing. It is secure and easy to use so that if we ever bring digital marketing back in-house, then we can make it happen.

Matrix in our organization is used by our sales department only. It serves as a fairly complex CRM tool for both sales executives and managers to use in monitoring activities, clients, orders, and forecasting. It allows other systems we use to integrate into it's online platform for use in managing an AE's account list and budgets.

It's fairly user friendly and requires very little training to understand how it works.
It nicely integrates data from our order entry and traffic system to see how orders and the dollars perform compared to the initial data the AE inputs.
It is able to run neat and concise reports for managers to track progress of the department.

I do think that completeness in which it integrates data from our traffic and order entry system could improve some. We have found instances where data isn't cleanly input and requires some manual clean up on the backside.
While the system itself is pretty user-friendly, sometimes the system itself seems a bit slow. For AE's whose time is rather valuable, this I know they find annoying at times.
Since I have the ability to see everyone's data and not just one AE's, I would like the managerial functionality a bit more comprehensive. Some of the reports are a bit cumbersome.

I do think that Matrix has had a positive impact of requiring AE's to better manage their own business.
Since I don't directly deal with the contractual piece of Matrix, as far as what the actual ROI is, I can't speak to that. But I can say this, our organization has used this for at least the 6 years I've been there. It is used on a national level, so I do believe that it's roll up features are ones that can be utilized through the organization.
As far as our overall business objectives in the sales department, it certainly meets the needs of both the management team as well as the sales team to managing clients and annual budgets.
