Useful Project Documentation with Matterport.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have a couple of uses for Matterport. We do a Matterport scan at least 4 times throughout the project. One before the project to gather existing information, the second when concrete is cut and underground plumbing is installed, the third when 4 way is complete before drywall is installed, and last, to see the finished product. This allows us to document the project and keep track of what happened and when. There have been many times after drywall has been installed that we are able to look at Matterport and find outlets that have been covered and where blocking is to finish the installation of products. Matterport has saved us and our customers a lot of time and headache of having to cut multiple holes in the walls to try to find outlets and other objects. We have also used Matterport to show the existing conditions of the home to limit the number of times that our engineers or designers have had to go on site. The scope of our use is to help with the initial design before construction and continued use throughout the project's construction to save time, and money, and keep the best quality finished product for our clients and owners.

Pros

  • Matterport is extremely useful for showing the existing conditions of space and presenting it to many different people and firms.
  • Matterport works well with data and information documentation during the project's construction. This makes going back to find covered objects easy and productive.
  • Matterport works well with demonstrating the position of the project to clients and owners.

Cons

  • The Matterport Capture app has some bugs and issues where some scans don't align well and additional time is needed re-scan in the same location multiple times.

Most Important Features

  • Matterport Capture.
  • Matterport View.

Return on Investment

  • The greatest return on investment that Matterport has given my business is the amount of information we can have without having to go on-site multiple times.
  • Before Matterport we would take hundreds of pictures of an existing space to try to gather the amount of information we needed. There would always be spots where the pictures we took do not give as much information as we hoped for. With Matterport you have 360 images where you can see much more.

Improve Sustainability with JFC & Associates' Digital Twin API - Matterport to IBM MAXIMO EAM

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have developed a robust software interface with Matterport with an API to IBM MAXIMO Enterprise Asset Management application using Matterport representative as a fully enabled digital twin using assets from the MAXIMO asset registry. Our client use cases include streamlining work management, service, and safety management at clients' sites having large quantities and value of tangible physical property to meet their missions.
FM Use Cases
•Virtual visual walk down for Asset data validations.

•Inventory Item Location with live quantity updates from MAXIMO storerooms.

•Conditional assessments / archival process for FM turnovers – linked to MAXIMO assets and locations.

•Visualize IOT devices with live data.

•Ability to Create a new work order/service ticket within Matterport.

•ADA Mapping for all Vertical Transportation elevators & escalators for Accessible means.

•Confined workspace areas and hazards training. Safety & OSHA Use Cases.
•Route for Legionella testing is the only way to determine if your cooling tower system is clean. Mapping testing sample locations and updates to MAXIMO meters.

•Electrical / Mechanical Lockout Tagout procedures provide detailed instruction on how to isolate and lock each energy source for a given piece of equipment, helping to prevent the startup.

•Indoor Mapping for Familiarization Training – Showing exits from spaces and buildings.

•Routes for Fire Protection Life Safety Assets – Fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and AED’s.

•Confined space training and identifications not designed for continuous occupancy. Minimize the risk of accidents.

•Capture measurements for hard-to-get-to-work areas needing lift equipment.
