I believe Melio is a flat out scam. No other way to describe it. From my experience, I sent a payment through Capital One Vendor Payments which is serviced by Melio for the rent on my live work loft and even paid extra to have the check expedited and sent via FedEx. After they claimed they sent the payment I contacted them and asked for the FedEx tracking number so I could know when it arrived, which they took 13 days to look for only to come back and tell me "We cannot locate your check. It might not have been sent so we will refund you for the payment." Crappy, sure but I figured they are a professional business, this must have been an oversight (boy was I wrong). Since the payment was for rent, at this point I had already set up to have them send next months payment and waited for them to issue a refund for the first payment so I could submit it a second time. A few days later they refunded me their fee, but not the value of the check. Another 2 weeks of back and forth and still they hadn't refunded it. Back to the second payment, since my landlord and I share the same address, mine just has a unit number attached to it, I updated the address for the second payment to mine and planned to hand deliver the check when it arrived. Melio said that check would arrive by the 3rd and by the 7th it hadn't shown up, so again asked for the FedEx tracking number, but this time they just ignored me. After being ignored for 2 more days, I then contacted Capital One for help and they initiated disputes on the transactions. Come to find out Melio never mailed either checks. Did they take my money? Yes. Did they provide the services I paid for? No. Did they refund me as they said they would? Nope. Did they cause me to become 2 months late on my rent? Yep. Thankfully Capital One got my money back for me, but for anyone considering using their service, please do yourself a favor and don't. That is unless you like to have others steal your hard earned money. I for one don't.

I use Melio on a daily basis to process payments to vendors for my own firm and to manage accounts payable for my clients. Melio makes accounts payable management easy. The platform is easy and intuitive for beginner use and information about payment and vendor status is easy to understand and navigate.
  • Makes it easy to track the status of payments.
  • Makes it easy to request vendor payment details.
  • Integrates well with QBO to make AP management simple.
  • I would like to be able to find the Melio payment ID attached to the payment in QB.
  • Batch processing in QBO causes some important information not to be transferred to the payment.
Melio is well suited for accountants or bookkeepers who process accounts payable for their clients as it integrates well with QBO, is cost-efficient, and easy to use. Whether you process a few or several invoices per day, Melio makes the process very simple to carry out and follow to the end (deposit).

I prefer Melio over Bill.com. I prefer Melio because it is easier to cancel or correct a payment on the platform. I like the way that Melio lets you track vendor requests for payment information. I like that it is easy to follow the payment all the way through the process to its deposit.

We help clients set up different Accounts Payable apps primarily via ACH. Melio & Veem are our 2 top apps used. Although recently, Melio stopped working for our clients. We reached out to Melio & they told us Melio is currently not supported in our state! What a joke. Is this something that is going to get fixed? Now we have to help all these clients select a different ACH bill payment system. Not fun.
  • Offers payment direct via the QuickBooks Online platform.
  • Sends ACH or Paper bill payment
  • Offers basic bill approvals
  • Offering service in all states & not suddenly dropping a state for overall payments.
  • Paying more than one bill at a time.
  • Having varied approval process, not just by amount. Vendor based approvals.
Kowing how to fix check returns or voids is a problem for clients. They constantly need help.
  • Allowing accountant user access to manage clients.
  • Allowing bill payment direct out of QBo for no cost.
  • I make money fixing the problems Melio creates, so the befit it provides is job security.
  • I can only recommend it to more technically advanced clients.
It is pretty good, but clients call frustrated with it when they have to fix things. I cannot offer it to advanced clients, since the system is too simple.

Melio is being used by our accounting and finance department. The business problem it addresses is writing and issuing checks to our vendors. Previously, we used Bill Pay from Chase in combination with ACH and Wire transfers; however, Chase stops providing the Bill Pay functionality. Since the majority of our employees work remotely, it also helps in that I get an email notification when I need to authorize a check. In the past, people would have to come into my office for signatures or we would have to add them as a signer on the bank account.
  • It is a low cost application
  • Very easy to process payments and significantly more efficient than its competitors
  • Very easy to add users and teach them how to use the platform
  • When a check isn't deposited, it stays in the system until a Melio rep reaches out to you.
  • I would like to see greater integration with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks desktop.
  • While bank accounts can be added relatively easily, it would help if you could change the name of the bank account rather than just the account number.
Melio is extremely well suited for companies that are writing checks on a day-to-day basis. It is also well suited for companies that have multiple employees working from home. It may not be as well suited for companies that are issuing very large checks and need to do a better job of managing their account payables.

Bill.com is more expensive and more difficult to use than Melio. While it has a greater range of functionality and apparently has better integration into QuickBooks, we didn't need the greater functionality and I had just as much trouble integrating into Bill.com as I have with Melio.
