  • Microsoft Access is very low in cost as compared to its competitors and provides value for money spent.
  • Comes with Office Suite for your whole organization. Easy to install and use.
  • Many people had to shift to Windows in order to use those as there is no Mac version.

  • Microsoft Access has had a mostly positive impact on our business objectives in that most of our work is funded by grants and those grants need reports with data about our projects. Microsoft Access makes getting and organizing that data very easy.
  • Another positive is that since it is built on an Excel backbone, Excel files can be easily imported into Microsoft Access and also it is easy to export Microsoft Access reports, data sheets, etc. into Excel and some other programs as well. That might help more people who already use Excel learn how to work in a database.
  • I can't really think of a negative impact other than not many people at my workplace have ever used or understand how to use a database. Most people tend to use Excel rather than a database, like Microsoft Access.

  • Allows quick deployment of valuable local solutions to achieve business benefits when a more 'corporate' solution isn't viable within the required timeframe.
  • Allows rapid improvement in data management (e.g. decent structures, data integrity, front-end integration between data sources) while awaiting a long-term UI.
  • Rapid prototyping, verification of requirements (particularly data), data structure design.

  • ROI for Microsoft Access is quite high. Usually included with Professional licenses, any savings are immediately realized.
  • Ability to see the time wasted when a database can run automatically just by opening the file.
  • As the systems that feed the Databases change, these stand-alone databases are usually the last thought of aspect but can have a large impact on a local users day.

  • Since it has been quick for me to use, it has saved time to parse data thereby making more money.
  • It has cost me more in the long run trying to come up with a solution [for problems] where maybe Access wasn't the best fit.

  • The ROI is great because we invested little, we already owned a license to the product, and we were able to develop it internally and replace a more expensive web-based option that we were using.
  • We were able to customize it to ALL of our needs, rather than work with an out of the box type option.
  • We were able to get easy access to training and information because there is a large user base to draw from.

  • The access databases work very well with many of the programs for Windows-based software development. You can also use your tables in products such as Microsoft SQL Server and in others not based on Microsoft such as Oracle and Sybase.
  • Easy to install and use: To create access databases, just install Microsoft Access and this is something that any database administrator can do in just a few minutes, leaving a fully functional relational database management system. Like many other Microsoft applications, Access contains wizards that guide you through every step of the way. The user interface is intuitive, speeding up data recovery.
  • It can be placed online: Although it still has limitations on the number of users with simultaneous connection, when there is a need for remote users, it can give full control and functionality to an access database so that teleworking can become a viable option for database administrators.

  • Automating data through MS Access database has saved us heaps of times on a daily basis.
  • Producing descriptive reports which virtually looks like a Word document has vastly improved our reporting capability and saved time.
  • Linking MS Access with MS Excel has made it very easy to push data to end-users in an easy to manage spreadsheet style.
