Microsoft Powerpoint Online provides most things the Powerpoint ever offered, so it can be used for eveything that Powerpoint historically have been used. But, in my opinion, the main problem is that the product has not adapted well to the online, highly collaborative scenario - so it cannot keep up with its main competitor at this matter. Also, in my experience, has an extreme performance issue for large media (when compared to its competitors).

Nothing better than the current scenario, where a lot of work is taking place in the home office, for the use of the tool. All the tools in the package contribute immensely, but when it comes to online meetings, Powerpoint helps a lot in presentations.

Well Suited:
Presentations (both internal and external)
Finished data (to bring data together and showcase)
Educational settings (to teach an audience, showcase a new story)

Less appropriate:
Where a lot of changes still may happen (as it has so many design elements, sometimes collaboration is hard)
Where data changes often (I find it more useful when I have everything already built and can just plug it in)

Some specifications of the web version are - It can open files of up to 2 Gb in size. Earlier this was called as PowerPoint web app[which has less features than the current web version]. You can edit files such as PowerPoint Presentation [.pptx], PowerPoint show [.ppsx], .odp files. But it does not support editing for PowerPoint Template [.potx], PowerPoint 1997-2003 template .pot, .pps, .pptm,.potm [only view feature is supported]. Here the online version will convert them to latest version for editing. Also, the save feature of PowerPoint online saves changes automatically, unlike desktop version where you need to go File> Save as initially, and then click Save after every change. Also password protected or digital signature based documents cannot be edited in web version.

I love this tool so much personally. Since I am in a job where I have to make the report everyday. I am working as a technical associate and we receive so many incidents of different severity. So at the end of every shift we all have to make the reports and need to show them to the managements, Since onshore and offshore are working in this project So Microsoft Powerpoint Online is the best suitable tool for us to make the report and presentation and they all can access it from anywhere in the organisation.

This is a really good tool to make your presentation. Presentation is all about pictorial representation of your data this tool provides you lots of features to convert your data into informative bar charts and pie charts. In addition to that you can include prerecorded session videos and flash files to explain the concepts into more details during your presentation.

Microsoft Powerpoint Online is the software which we are using from childhood days for all presentations and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to create a presentation. Multiple font styles, effects make the slides interactive.

Anyone who needs to use Microsoft PowerPoint collaboratively with team members in different locations would do well to let PowerPoint online take care of the dirty work. If you experience issues related to version control - and who doesn't? - this is a worthwhile investment. Plus, PowerPoint online is really the gold standard. Other online software suites do things similarly, but learning curves are eliminated altogether if you are collaborating with a team member who's already familiar with PowerPoint.

Well suited for documents that came from a regular Windows PC (formatting is amazingly easy), completing and sharing presentations with peers, and making quick adjustments on the go before presenting (adding notes, animations, slides, etc). Not too suitable for long documents unless you're willing to wait a few seconds.

The compatibility with prior desktop versions has gotten FAR better over the years. Aside [from] few very advanced features, the online version of PowerPoint is nearly identical to the desktop version. Being able to work together on the same document in real-time can't be beat.

Overall PowerPoint Online is the best solution for heterogeneous environments where you have people working from different OS and machines. You don't have to worry about it working with your OS or spend time on supporting the app in too much depth, you just need a O365 account and a browser. This makes it convenient to collaborate on presentations. The downside is that the application is not as powerful as the native apps however you could edit some of it natively and upload to the online version.
