Microsoft Project is the tool that most helps in the planning of a large number of projects; the delivery time of projects and tasks is essential for success in all departments and this tool allows us to know specifically in which task we are doing a good job and in which we have different problems or delays. I can also say that Microsoft Project is very easy to execute and control according to our specifications and requirements. We have success in our hands and this is thanks to the good performance of Microsoft Project.
  • The ability to diagram specific aspects of each project or task
  • The ease of execution
  • Ability to make modifications (assignments, dates, schedules, diagrams, monitoring)
  • Has some limitations related to performance in areas of visual analysis
  • The configuration is not the simplest--the use is perfect, but after configuring it
All projects and tasks require effective planning. It is necessary to use tools that can execute impeccable planning. Microsoft Project has shown that it is a tool capable of handling large projects that require large planning. A great example of efficiency is the virtue of make changes to projects and tasks at any time. Microsoft Project is very easy to execute after going through a complex configuration--that is the only annoyance of this tool. I want to recommend it to expand the planning of projects that always require robust tools.

It is being used by various individuals. It is nice to collaborate on schedules with each other. I also use it to figure manpower and durations based on manpower. I still feel like I'm very new at using Project and don't get to use it as often as I'd like. I'm always learning new tricks and things to make it easier to use.
  • Being able to tie tasks together so when something changes it makes it easier to track.
  • Being able to create categories for tasks and tie them all together.
  • It's nice to set holidays and not have to remember them when scheduling farther into the future.
  • I've been using it for a while but I don't get to use it as much as I'd like. The is a lot of information and help out there to learn how to use it better.
  • Linking tasks together and the whole SS-1D or FS+4D is very confusing. It usually takes me a few tries to get it where I want. There is always information to help figure this out, just need to be willing to look and ask.
  • Sorting by date and task can be confusing. At least there's always the undo button.
  • I'm always learning something new that makes using project easier and more beneficial for me. I wish I was able to use or more.
I like being able to copy directly to Excel for certain items and vice versa. Linking tasks can get very confusing. It requires a lot of time up front but will save a ton of time in the long run. I'm still learning, and as I do, it becomes so much easier to use.

I am unsure of exactly how many people us it
I do not know. I don't deal with that area
  • I use Microsoft Project to create job schedules
  • We use it to figure manpower based on task durations
  • We use it to figure durations based on manpower
  • We use it to calculate manpower needs based on durations of tasks to be performed
  • I would like to learn how to use it more fully. I only use it for basic schedule building but I know that it can do so much more
I like using Microsoft Project. It simplifies building a schedule

I've never used it so I don't know to say
I've never used Microsoft support
  • Entering tasks and basic schedule building are very simple
  • linking tasks together is simple
  • Linking task tasks together and trying to work off of SS or FS and figuring exactly what it is calculating from
  • I don't really understand much else other than basic schedule building so everything else seem cumbersome to me
For basic schedule building, which is what I primarily use it for, is great and very easy. I don't really understand much else although I would like to learn because everything I do use it for is very easy to do and learn

I am the IT project manager for the company I work for and I live and breathe Microsoft Project. Before using this software, I was stuck with using Excel spreadsheets to track project statuses and milestones. As the projects got more complex, Excel just wasn't doing the job anymore. I presented Project to Exec. management and we made the purchase and tracking my projects have gotten so much easier once you get past the steep learning curve.
  • Ability to track Milestones
  • Ability to track Resources
  • Has a really good Gantt chart
  • Steep learning curve
  • To get the full suite with the Project server, it is very expensive
  • Printing the project plan is a bit challenging
Microsoft Project is a very good tool for tracking project progress. If the project is a quick 2 - 3-day project, using MS Project probably wouldn't be viable, but if you are working on a long-term, complex project that will span numerous months and/or departments, MS Project is the way to go.

  • Project has helped keep my project from being derailed by scope creep.
  • While Project isn't a money making tool, it does help keep your projects on-budget
  • MS Project is a pretty hefty expense. Integration is supported, if you have MS project Server.
Project is much more robust compared to other products on the market. I haven't evaluated them all, but I'm pretty happy with what project has been able to do for me and a Project manager. There is a lot of functionality if you don't many paying for it. Overall, I think Project would go toe to toe with any other PM software out there.
