I am a team lead of a development group and a senior developer. I have a large number of servers that I manage, and using RDCMan makes this job considerably easier. The software is also used to keep track of which desktop computers are assigned to which developer as I frequently have to install software for my team.

The RDCMan software is highly effective at allowing me to organize and manage a large number of servers, and desktop computers. It’s quick and easy to use. It’s also highly reliable. In all the years that I have used it, I have never once experienced a crash or any other sort of error.

RDCMan outshines TeamViewer in every possible way. It’s fast, more reliable, and easier to use. I have had frequent crashes and issues when using TeamViewer, while none with RDCMan. Screen responsiveness also seems much better with RDCMan versus TeamViewer. I would often experience lag issues when using TeamViewer.

I have used RDCMan for a long time both on the job and off. It has helped me diagnose issues quickly while not having to leave the office, which is especially critical with the current situation with COVID-19. I feel safer and so does the users. I have used this parallel with other tools to mitigate trouble shooting for both me and the users. I know other techs have used it as well, but it's not the only tool we can use, but like many things our job is about using multiple tools either at once of on a case by case basis to solve issues for our users.

Perfect for troubleshooting and solving a software issue without having to travel to the persons office. Especially with COVID now! Sometimes I require the user to be logged out to access their machine and it's not always the most ideal situation when they need a quick fix. It's a great tool in the tool box.

Like with everything IT, we have many tools in the tool box. Sometimes you can use different tools to do the same job. It can often depend on the user and experience of the situation. Many things have it's pro's and cons. But the main thing is that you fix the issue and the user is happy with the solution. It's the techs job to know what the best tool to use per situation.
Plenty of information and support online, and with many things it's pretty straight forward for the average tech to navigate and work with. But with most things online you're not the only person that's had the issue before, and using a search engine you should be able to figure it out.

Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) is being used both at the department level and across the whole organization. IT/Server Administrators don't need to use Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) in our organization/department to use this to manage server sessions. Still, most that are managing multiple servers, it has provided to be a handy tool. The business problem that it addresses is having an excellent Remote Desktop Management tool that is easy to use and setup, without requiring training or diving deep into the documentation to get it up and running.
  • One thing it does well is being able to deploy it quickly and easily. It takes very little space to install the actual program and also installs quickly. Once installed, it is relatively to start creating groups and adding servers/machines, without users needing to be trained in how to do this, or consulting the documentation.
  • Another thing it does well is having an easy to use layout within the Microsoft Remote Connection Manager (RDCMan) window. There is a tree directory structure, showing groups, and corresponding servers/machines. There are also thumbnails of servers/machines that are displayed. This helps IT, Administrators, to see what is connected and what is not, along with understanding what is on the actual screen of the live server/machine in realtime.
  • When trying to connect to a server/machine, and it doesn't connect, there is a "Disconnected" message that is displayed in the thumbnail. There is no information beyond this that explains why the server/machine did/could not connect. It would be helpful to the IT Administrator to know this information, even if Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) kept a log somewhere where this information can be analyzed.
  • There doesn't seem to be an option for connecting to a server that is usually only able to be accessed from a jump server. This will not connect if the server is set up as a server/machine within RDCman. This would be a beneficial feature to have within RDCman. Maybe one of the missing options is to be able to set this in the prospects for the jump server (within the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) window).
  • One scenario where Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) would be well suited would be in an environment where the IT/Server Administrators have a lot of servers to manage. As it provides an easy way to create groups, and then manage servers within those groups. Overall, Microsoft Remote Connection Manager (RDCman) has an excellent graphical user interface, not only showing the groups in a tree-hierarchy view but also for each server, having a thumbnail for each individual machine. It is also suitable for environments that want an easy to deploy and install solution, without requiring training or looking at detailed documentation.
  • In a scenario where it is less suited would be in an environment where they are only managing, maybe one or two servers, as this solution is not needed. It is also less suited for organizations that want a commercial-paid solution, which may offer more features and options.

  • One positive impact it's had was that it has made it easier to manage servers since this could be done from a central location and through only one program. This, in effect, has helped to increase efficiency and save the time of those doing server management.
  • Another positive impact was that it is a product that could be deployed/installed by almost anyone, and one that fits reasonably quickly. It also doesn't use a whole lot of system resources when running, so this, in turn, helps the IT/Server Administrators still be efficient in the other work they have to do.
We haven't needed to test or compare any other Remote Desktop Management solution, as Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) works so well, and does most everything we need it to do. There is also the benefit that it is both a Microsoft product (which has good support and which does well to manage Windows servers) and that there is no cost for licensing of the product
We haven't had a particular need to find support for help with Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Manager (RDCMan) since it was both easy to deploy and install, and is also very easy to use overall. If someone requires finding support for this product, there are several support options available, from technical documentation to user support forums, to phone/web/email support.
