What is Middesk?

Middesk is a business intelligence (BI) software used to onboarded clients working in three primary verticals — Fintech, Credit Reporting, and Business Marketplaces. Middesk claims to empower compliance teams with engineering resources who otherwise would not have the resources available.
Middesk is also an identity platform that automates business verification and underwrites decisions. The company's platform also provides data on businesses and notifies service providers of changes to its customer base allowing them to form an accurate picture of their customers and offer the critical products their customers need to establish, operate, and maintain their businesses.
Middesk's tools include:

Tax ID and Name Verification: ensures that when customers are onboarded, an accurate legal name associated with a Tax ID is verified with the IRS and kept on file to save time and avoid fines when filing.

Secretary of State Filings: Helps clients understand registration history in order to stay in good standing and maintain active status in states where they have employees, offices, or significant portions of revenue. Each state is independent of the next and there is no single repository to verify that a business is an active business.

Website Validation: Automatically surfaces key information and content about web presence, flagging high-risk and relevant information.
Websites are commonly used as a proxy for understanding the legitimacy, nature of business for a customer, and risk profile of a customer.

We primarily have been using Middesk when we need to set up operations in a new state. We've also been going through the painstaking process of gathering our payroll and tax account information from our previous TPAs, state agencies, etc. and we've recently started using Middesk to transfer administration for those states. State registrations can be complex and nuanced - Middesk helps us stay compliant by prompting us to gather information as few times as possible, then we can rely on the technology to sort it all out and get us registered wherever we need to.

  • UI can be a little more intuitive.
  • Mail and documents could be translated into actions/tasks.
  • Statuses could be a little more clear.
Middesk is an excellent and vital tool for any business needing to set up operations in a new state. The process the seamless and easy. For businesses looking to transfer administration of existing state accounts, the process is a little more clunky. Either way, Middesk saves a ton of time and brainpower needed to maintain registrations with state agencies.

  • Saved an enormous amount of time.
  • Made registration process much more simplified.
ADP Workforce Now offers a module to handle payroll tax registrations. The interface is confusing and the information is hard to find. The service and support are awful - nobody ever knows who can answer tax account questions, they escalate to a different department and promise a callback but they never call back.
UI is not as intuitive as other systems we use. For states that require income tax withholding, some of them require registration with multiple agencies - the UI doesn't easily tell you which login credentials are tied to which agency.
Whenever human intervention is needed, the Middesk team is very quick to respond (within 24 hours max) and the information requests are clear and actionable.

In addition, it is the easiest way for financial services companies to verify and monitor their business customers. It for us very much makes the process of onboarding customers very easy.

It provides higher quality. Although the price is very costly compared to its competitors, the result after usage is exceptional. Although this product has less marketing, it is able to be reached a large number of people. The navigation is slightly better than the other competitor tools. User experience is another important reason it attracts people.
The user experience of this tool must be rearchitected. I am able to observe a lot of lag in the process when initiated. There are sometimes when the tool's navigation becomes difficult. The time taken at times is large to process a request and this can also be highly improved by using efficient techniques.
