Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

The Mimecast platform provides the initial entry point for inbound email services. It delivers primarily security and enhanced protection prior to emails reaching office 365 infrastructure. It then offers resiliency of email services should office 365 encounter any substantial issues. By taking a tiered approach to email security we are able to reduce the chances of malicious or unwanted emails and attachments reaching the mail client
  • Spam filtering
  • Virus scanning
  • URL protection
  • The user interface is not the most user friendly
  • The structure of menus is somewhat clunky
  • Predefined templates for protection
Perfect for any company looking to enhance its security. Great for adding protection for on-premise servers as Mimecast removes the requirement for external parties to directly communicate with the client's server. We would recommend the solution is implemented in company’s with at least 25 staff as otherwise the overhead and pricing would make it prohibitive.
  • Virus protection
  • URL filtering
  • The threats it protects against could have led to an issue without the solution
  • Less staff time wasted as less spam emails

We are using Mimecast to mitigate email threats, web threats and also for Security Awareness Training. About 130,000 emails are received each month, with approximately 25% being classified as dangerous or SPAM. Having Mimecast has really enabled us to take control of what is coming into the company and gives us piece of mind that we are doing everything we can to keep the company's date and network safe.
  • Identifies malicious emails and blocks them
  • Allows us to take control of what we let in - and lets us make changes as we need to
  • Security Awareness Training has really engaged with staff
  • Lots of reports and things to customise
  • It doesn't get many blocked emails wrong considering the volume
  • Allows people to take control!
  • There is a lot of things and it can be hard to find what you're after sometimes
  • Probably needs to be a central management console with your most used features that dynamically updates to find things easier
I think Mimecast is great for companies who want granular control over their email. Once it is setup, it really does just run along without IT needing to get involved too much. Any time we have 'issues' - such as incorrectly blocked emails or attachments, we can easily figure out what we need to do and how to fix it. Mimecast is great for teams who don't want to sit there all day and manage and look at emails. It would suit a large organisation who want deep control.
  • Security Awareness Training
  • Impersonation protection
  • blocking websites
  • the personal email portal
  • It has stopped numerous threats
  • having an all in-in-one system gives us great protection
  • Around 25% (30,000) emails are blocked each month.
  • Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365)
The thing I like about Mimecast is that it makes sense to setup and implement without having to get. Most things are easy to find (eventually) and makes sense. The issue with Microsoft is that it can be way too involved and hard to digest. Support isn't always available either.

We use Mimecast to help mitigate threats via email and the web. The Mimecast Email Gateway is our first line of defence against all email threats. In addition to identifying malware, it takes control of SPAM, impersonation email and protects againt phishing and fake URLs. We also have the Mimecast Web Filter which acts as another level of protection when people click on malicious links. Lastly, we have deployed the Security Awareness Training module to ensure our staff are educated against threats.

We have a small IT Team of 3 who manage Mimecast.

We have had it for around 18 months and we have found it very easy to use and make adjustments to things such as whitelisted domains and adjusting various rules and settings.

Whilst it is a very comprehensive tool, it is easy to learn and manage.
  • Identifying malware
  • identify phishing emails
  • blocking malicious URLs
  • Educating staff
  • We use it to check that people have received emails (when they say they havent)
  • We have been able to identify whether we have been compromised when third parties receive emails from hackers
  • We have been able to identify who needs extra training and is a risk to our security
  • Have been able to identify email trends
  • Allows people to self manage their permitted senders
  • People have become more aware of threats and what to look for
  • People now understand that IT is in charge
  • We are currently using it to the level we expect. I don't foresee any major changes
It works perfectly and is really easy to manage when you understand the menu and how it works. It really is 'set and forget' with minor changes needed from time to time to blacklist and whitelist senders and domains. It makes our life really easy and gives us a lot of data to understand how or business and users operate.
  • Online training
I was shown the areas we would need to use and understand, along with the settings. It was perfect as it didn't go too deep.
The Mimecast support has always been helpful and quick to respond.
Yes - you can't try and penny pinch when protecting your employees and business.
I wouldn't say anything has been exceptional, always up to a high standard though.

We use Mimecast to filter spam emails and it helps us to protect from email threats. We also monitor incoming emails of users in the organization. It does block if the email is suspicious or malicious emails which helps us to keep our network safe.URL security is also on point it does help us in protecting users to visit a malicious website.
  • Email security helps to block malicious emails
  • URl protection helps to block suspicious websites
  • Security awareness training were conducted
  • They do have a plugin for outlook to search archive mails
  • At times there are some lags found in console
  • Price is bit high
  • It does block regular emails sometimes.
Mimecast is well suited for email security such as blocking spam and vulnerable emails which can be the biggest threat to an organization. Once we set up rest is taken care of. We Usually just log in to check if any of the emails were blocked incorrectly. It has good support where we can get assistance if needed. The only thing is price, Many small-scale organizations cannot go for this.
  • URL protection
  • Email security
  • Cloud archive outlook plugin
  • Web security
  • We use it to protect our email database from threats and malicious attacks
  • There is no ROI to this product , Since it is a security based service.
we were not using any other products before Mimecast. It is working perfectly as per our needs.

We utilize Mimecast Threat Intelligence across our entire organization for every user. We leverage Office 365 cloud-based email, so all of email is routed from Office 365 to Mimecast as our Security Gateway as a single pane to configure further domain and user level settings for email security. We find great value in the URL protection and impersonation protections features as well as the spam and phishing aspects.
  • URL protection policies work well
  • Impersonation protection features help cut down on emulated spam and phishing attempts
  • The interface for the threat intel dashboard could use some updating
  • Slowness in the console persists occassionally
Mimecast Threat Intelligence scales well from small to larger organizations alike. The value is really the bang for the buck. The email continuity feature is a nice caveat to a disaster scenario in the event Office 365 goes down, we can still conduct email business with this feature to bypass Office 365 completely. The extra security layers for the money make Mimecast a great solution for your sole, or added email security features.
  • Saves time and manpower as the console can easily be managed by 1 person
  • Using the continuity feature could potentially save an email outage from preventing an organization from conducting business.
I have always received the assistance needed, except for the fact that when Mimecast support responds to a case, they do not provide any context. So if you have 4 cases open, you have no idea which case they are responding to. Definitely a shortcoming of the threat intel would be their support, not so much the product.

Mimecast Threat Intelligence is the bread and butter side of Mimecast's cloud-based email management offering. It includes email security, continuity and archiving and is the main reason we were initially drawn to and eventually signed up for Mimecast. It is the only application, outside of the MS Office Suite, that is directly used and affects all members of our organization. We host email on-premise and this product allows us to route all email through it before entering our servers. it offers malware, virus, phishing, etc...protection along with the ability to set up policies to have granular management of the email. It also archives all of our emails both of continuity's sake and searching past email.
  • Because all incoming and outgoing (with journaling setup for internal email) go through Mimecast it is a one-stop-shop for searching out emails from past months or years. It is light years better than using local archives such as .pst files.
  • Since they touch all incoming email Mimecast is excellent our filtering out spam, malware and virus emails before it even gets to your server whether on-premise or in the cloud.
  • The system is so good I could only think of two flaws and that is after using it for 4 years. The first being that although they have a great web-based management utility the pages themselves render/work slowly such that it sometimes takes a bit of time to click around.
  • Mimecast offers an Outlook plugin or web-based method to search through old archived emails. Both are significantly slower than if you had them in a local file of some kind. It's the negative side of going to the cloud for this process but does cause some users to complain.
Mimecast is well suited for any organization whether 20 users or 20,000. The pricing on it is more than reasonable and correlates to the number of users you will have running through it. This review is specific to their threat intelligence but they also offer a slew of other pieces that can work in conjunction with their main threat offering. For organizations who are on-premise, the Mimecast Threat Intelligence basically gives you peace of mind that even if you lose your own system for any reason your email can continue to flow and be used through the Mimecast front end. Compared so some other SaaS offerings the price is ridiculously low considering it is the main part of your arsenal for arguably the most important part of your infrastructure. It is hard for me to conceive a situation where it would not be a positive only an organization's infrastructure offerings....possibly in a business where there is actually not extra money to spend on extras? If your organization manages its own email then Mimecast is appropriate for you.
  • The addition of Mimecast to our arsenal lessens the burden on internal IT resources to help users manage their own spam white lists, archive searches, and user education when it comes to nefarious emails.
  • Having Mimecast's capabilities allows us to gain lower insurance premiums where it pertains to IT Security and continuity polices.
When we decided to take the plunge on a SaaS offering like Mimecast we reviewed one other company that offers similar protection and archiving capabilities. Proofpoint seems to be a capable competitor and I guess one if one goes with them they will see similar savings and results however we saw no tangible reason to risk by going with the competitor when pricing was so reasonable on the known services we would get with Mimecast.
Mimecast has a 24 hours phone hotline available to assist you with issues as they arise. This is the typical help desk situation where you reach level one and go to level two if this issue is extensive however I have found their level one techs to more than capable of dealing with most issues I have called about. The only negative I would mention is that their email support is less hardy when it comes to response time so I have grown to realize that calling is the only way to get timely support.
