I use MindManager extensively for documentation, projects, and creating presentations. I have shown it to numerous students and people I work with. I wish I could have a $1 for every referral I made to buy MindManager prior to this last version.

  • In 2021, they removed the export to PowerPoint feature. They were good to provide me a refund. I will stay with 2020 until the feature is put back.
  • It seems that after the Corel purchase they have lost their way. I am looking for an alternative product and really like Lucid.

Version 2020 would have gotten a 10. Version 2021 has features removed. Great for reviewing large project plans provided they can be imported. 2020 is a great tool for creating curriculum and presentations, then exporting them quickly to MS Powerpoint.
  • MindManager 2020 saves me 3-5 hours for each presentation.
  • Building curriculum saves me 2-5 hours on a 30 hours course.
  • To export to PDF saves me 30 minutes a week.
A great tool to collaborate on brainstorming a sprint. I used the tags feature to quickly create roadmaps and plans.
Mindnode will be my choice if MJ opt to keep the expert to PPT feature out.
Yes. The 2021 MJ did not have the feature we needed so we stayed with 2020.
Yes
No. The export to PPT feature has not been restored.
Yes. They were good to let me know the feature was not included. "Understood and I sent your concerns to Product for attention unfortunately I don't have any ETA for any changes to add PPT back into 21. You can certainly request a refund."

We have used MindManager within our department to produce process flowcharts, process planning, project management, and notetaking. We found that it boosts productivity by allowing everyone involved in a project to collaborate as it has tight integration with MS Office and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams. It takes less effort to use compared to other tools and it was a great tool that we used to collectively gain visualization of our projects and processes.

  • Great to segment things out (projects, organizational charts, processes, workloads, etc) and gives you a full picture of the job.
  • It is user friendly, simple to use, and powerful.
  • MS Office and Teams integration is great. Allows for easy collaboration.
  • Great GUI and visuals
  • Excellent method for project planning and brainstorming
  • It can be difficult to print your mind map in a font that is large enough to easily read.
  • Certain features for first-time users are a bit daunting and there is a slight learning curve.
  • The help options can be enhanced.

I like how user-friendly MindManager is for someone who has learned how to use the program. I've tried many mind mapping tools, both online and offline and I find MindManager does it right the first time without any issues. It is also visually perfect, very intuitive, and offers all features you might need. MindManager produces really sharp and professional maps that can be used on screen shares and presentations without any hesitation. It is suited well for organizing personal projects and tasks. I use it to manage most of my personal information when not doing departmental projects and tasks.
  • Improved collaboration
  • Saved time and efforts
  • Improved productivity of project managers
MindManager has a good number of templates that one can use to easily create flowcharts, organization charts, and workflow processes. There are also a good number of built-in icons and images in the repository that can be added to flowcharts. We used to use a Microsoft product to conduct the same work and it took a significant amount of time to produce. While exploring MindManager, we were quite impressed with how much time was saved using the program and also adding added features such as collaboration.
We are still evaluating MindManager but we felt that it easily integrated with Microsoft Office and Teams than Lucid and that was really important for our team. We love the single sign-on feature and all the integration features that come with the program. We will continue to evaluate MindManager and hope to incorporate it in the near future.
We did not purchase the premium support as we are still trialing the software program. We will consider purchasing it when we make a purchasing decision.

Sometimes, it’s not just about an individual advisor going the extra mile for the customer, but a customer service team coming together in the best interests of the customer. When I came across an issue with understanding a function of MindManager, the customer service representative gave me assistance and also provided me with documentation and explained the entire support process. After a few days the representative contacted me to follow up and see if I needed any further assistance. I appreciated this exceptional support efforts.
  • Linking individual Outlook e-mails to your mind maps
  • Map the contents of your files and folders
  • Manage information quickly and logically
  • Drag and drop within the map sometimes is tricky, making placement, or rearrangement of items frustrating
  • Microsoft Project integration does not exist
Yes, but I don't use it
A team can collaborate on the same project but cannot create a shared project file. It would be helpful for that feature to be added.
We have had no issues with the application's availability
The application is quick and responsive. We are able to produce mindmaps and reports with ease. The program is not complicated at all and integrates well with software and programs like Microsoft Outlook and Teams, which we truly appreciate.

Very well suited for organizing content. I took content of book and dynamically organized chapters by relationships. Still a bit difficult to do process mapping and Scrum.
  • Organized content needed for consulting.

I took the BABOK guide and completely transferred all the content, text, chapters and illustrations into a mind map. I can see relationships between various chapters much more easily.

Currently I'm the beta fish for MindManager; beta testing solo for use by our team here, and then fighting for it.

For 30+ years I've been using 'mind mapping' techniques, starting while at UW, then progressing through various versions of the software. Incredibly happy with what v2018 offers today (have maintenance package for the 2019 upgrade but yet to install). Much an analog man for early brainstorming on sketchbooks or whiteboards, all ends up in the software.

MM allows for simply moving a branch of a map onto its own. As I hold various roles I need to link maps as I get more granular... I find sharing a map a few levels down is simpler for me than fiddling with a large map, but I haven't tried the new HTML exporting, so I could be behind the bus on that.

MM also has an intense, immense and impressive ability for me to CODE AND SORT tasks for whatever I need. Beyond the obvious who/what/when the ability to code and sort tasks by font/color/icons/etc/etc/etc means allows for an insane amount of control. Implementing dashboards is next, so that specific people look at specific things. GANTT I believe will become my new best friend.

Looking forward to sharing via the html functionality with non-MM users. Brilliant strategy to get power users work out there and give a taste to the uninitiated.

Mindjet partner Olympic Limited sells an add-on that makes the above easier. Kudos to Mindjet for their partners.

Regarding Corel, I'm glad they purchased Mindjet! I fondly recall how 30 years ago utterly intuitive Wordperfect on the NeXT platform was daily, as I struggle with MSO. Good on the folks at Corel to pick up these gems.

  • Super easy to use; everyone gets the basics and the power behind mind mapping.
  • Incredible flexibility to grow/expand on ideas and then to link them.
  • Dashboards and Gantt charts are polished.
  • Multi-monitor support...could be my setup here but I struggle with super large maps and I find using a set of linked smaller maps to be less grief than scrolling around a large map but I would highly prefer seeing the bigger picture. That or some hotkeys to improve using a super large map.

Brainstorming or ad-hoc meetings.
Complex projects and tasking.
Want to use more for knowledge base and training.
  • $400 for the ability to do a project mapped out or hierarchical.
  • Ability to lay out all the tasks and Gantt them - included.
  • Ability to share maps with anyone with a browser - included.
I'll keep it simple: the ability to easily, intuitively add/move topics and tasks around so fluidly isn't possible in Word or Excel
First looks showed how inferior other mind mapping software was to MM.

Currently I'm still the only user (see my previous review) BUT I'm board chair of a charitable organization about to undertake a huge project and my intent is to roll out MindManager for that.

Gosh, with the ease of use, youtube and the great tech support, not required. I will say that I'm a visual-auditory guy so reading through help files isn't as quick/easy as videos. I will say that I rely on the videos/webinars to really get into functionality...something that I recommend new users do asap as there are SO MANY things MindManager has built-in that you really need to see them in action to appreciate them. Easy after that AND most likely you'll get a better idea as to how YOU would want to use the software. And kudos to Corel/Mindjet for fixing bugs and rolling out upgrades.
  • Brainstorming and then prioritizing
  • Project Management and Tracking
  • Knowledge Base - Storage
  • Knowledge Base - Dissemination
  • Publishing Maps and sending as HTML
  • Embedding multiple maps in HTML and sent as one big (non-editable) map
  • Integrating Tasks with Outlook is on the docket
  • Resource allocation
  • Integrating with office and committees
  • Custom filtering to dashboards (eg for office, committee, even down to the person level)
I feel the main issues of the old Mindjet seem to be gone with the Corel purchase. With the huge advance of sharing via browser HTML even 1 user can affect many. And, actually, using MM kind of forced my rigid brain to rethink how I categorize and classify information/projects.

The idea of paying $69USD for an annual cost is more than fair and a great model for Corel/Mindjet to keep rolling out improvements!

MindManager is still on top, IMO, as no other products offer anything close to it (either freestanding or SaaS) and I know this as I just did a decent due diligence into MindManager vs the competitors from an unbiased viewpoint.
Perhaps present the top 3 options to a user group, but I'll be presenting to the board so not really a change in the evaluation process but the next step.
  • Implemented in-house

We also licensed an Olympic product...so staged installation which got a bit delayed getting the Olympic software to work through TrendMicro AV as work laptops managed by IT department.
Change management was minimal
  • None with MindManager
  • Some issues getting Olympic product to work with TrendMicro AV but my understanding is that was due to an IT managed platform
??
  • Online training
  • Self-taught
The videos are not well categorized...I had to do a bit of digging to get what I wanted and many videos on older versions. If Mindjet was to improve the titles used that would help.
Yes and no. Sure you can plug away but watching a 30-60 min video helped me greatly.
Unlimited flexibility for formatting, icons, etc. forced me to stop and define my information methodology...how to use icons, colours, tags, etc.
Take the time to consider your information/project classification and methodology!
MindManager can handle anything you throw at it, so don't throw garbage.
Once established, it's super easy to throw down info/brainstorming/etc against either an existing map or create a new one via templates and link it where necessary. That way easy to enter and find whatever you need to do.
Yes - we have customized the interface extensively
See previous. Spend the time to learn tricks via online videos.
No - we have not done any custom code
Nothing done.

Not too expensive and seems to be working. I believe you get what you're willing to pay for and I prefer annual, flat, inclusive fees.
Occasionally I do have a bit of a back and forth via email...WHEREAS a quick POTC (plain old telephone call) would probably be best all concerned.

Perhaps a telephone-based Super premium support service (might be there but I might not know about it).
No
Haha, when the sales team gave the seat price for charities! We can get a few licenses now and not crimp.
  • Just getting going...no fanfare to start mapping
  • Adding formatting
  • Printing maps
  • Publishing and sharing maps
  • Scrolling large maps (but I really could rotate my monitor to portrait mode)
It takes some time to learn the vast functionality beyond simple maps (eg large, complex maps)
Unlimited...issue I had was nomenclature, but info/project classification/methodology address that.
Old MM versions were an issue. No issues since 2018 anyway!
No issues even with large maps and held in the cloud.
  • Microsoft Outlook for tasks
Still 'beta' so rather not comment.

MindManager has been used within the program portfolio, with more than 20 projects running simultaneously. The projects are being implemented by a team of more than 100 people in a multidisciplinary team. Besides being the repository of official information to be reported to donors, it keeps track of daily activities since we use its maps functionality for this matter. It also serves as a repository of administrative processes and operational activities.

  • Efficient collaboration tool and document version tracking.
  • Mindjet keeps track of all the versions edited by users, so you can tell who was the last editing the document.
  • The way maps and flowcharts are created so easily. The templates library is very handy and helps you organize your ideas in a proper way.
  • Helps to organize and prioritize tasks within a medium sized team
  • Download documents without the need to open each of the documents
  • Copy-paste folders and their contents into another location
  • The server went off several times this year

Well suited
  • Organizing workload
  • Determine specific tasks for specific people and seeing the overall progress in a Gantt chart
  • MS Office integration so you can easily export to whatever format you need
  • Annual planning tool
Less appropriate
  • Not a substitution for your PC filing system
  • Not a backup tool (some users may be able to erase files, but there is an option for the admin to recover them)
  • Reduce reporting time by 25%
  • A tracking system for documentation of learned lessons
  • The team can overview their participation within the portfolio
MindManager definitely helped us organize within a complex reporting system, where in most of the cases the reporting deadlines overlapped because of the nature of the projects. The tool helped to structure the work and tasks so users can visualize their complete annual planning. The processing time was reduced because of the option to "open' and "close" access to folders.
The maps helped form task forces, when needed and immediate action was required. This way when the meeting was necessary, we could have the full picture of where we were and what was left to be done, and could establish specific actions.
MindManager was the first tool we took into consideration. We think MindManager has a very user-friendly environment and is very similar to windows explorer, so it was really easy for the team to adapt the tool by knowing most of its functionalities. But discovering maps, flowcharts, tasks, Gantt charts and MS office integration was really a plus for the ones who wanted to take advantage of them. Most of the team created their own virtual folder for day-to-day tracking. It makes it simple for supervisors to follow up within their teams.

Due to the volume of the information, we manage we pay for the web service and technical support and it has been satisfactory. They always come with an answer that will leave you calmed and help you the best way they can. We contacted them several times this year and we always had our problems solved.
It is excellent! We always had our problems solved thanks to their help in short time.

Yes, we asked for the payment invoice in advance this year due to the financial end of the year closure and they did the best they could to grant us this option. So, we were able to anticipate the next year's payment. Besides that, they let us know about the recurrent payments so we can include them in the invoice and pay for them too. We were also able to pay for extra licenses.
