I would likely test several other available products and compare usability and reporting capabilities to my experience with Abila Products. I would be interested only in a full service product which would include Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Bank Reconciliation, Financial Reporting, Electronic Transfer, Direct Deposit, all Payroll functions, Time and Attendance, Human Resources, and Fundraising and Donor reporting.

If I had to do it again, I would've paid much more attention at fleshing out what functionality we would like to get out of the new software system, rather than how well it integrated to the current system. Admittedly we were happy that our upgrade went smoothly, conversely I don't think we improved our use of the software as perhaps we could've. As a smaller organization, we were sensitive to these kind of costs to consider.

I would definitely speak to other users of the software as well as visiting some companies that use the software. It would be good to be able to see it in action in a real setting as well as talk to the users who deal with the software every day and understand how it really works.

Well, I would require the accounts department to enlist their complete requirements and have them analyse the application rather executive body as the direct users need to analyse the application.

Hindsight is always genius. If we were to do it over again, we would've asked for more information on how Abila creates a budget and asked for a more thorough demo of that capability.
I don't think anything would've changed though. Our previous solution was showing its age and Abila was a huge step up. I don't know that any of the other products would've have changed our minds. The budget making process while important, in the grand scheme of things, involves roughly 2-3 months of a lot of work (in and out of the system). The advantages that Abila brought to the table for the day-to-day fiscal operations was better than anything else we were seeing.

Evaluation Lessons Learned

I was not at this agency when MIP was initially selected and implemented. However, I was involved in the decision to purchase the HR and Employee Web Services modules. We discussed the price, as well as features and usability of the module. Additionally, we discussed how these programs could improve efficiency for staff, reduce paper usage, and meet our needs for timesheet requirements. If we had to do this again, I would not change our decision making process.

I think that MIP would be the choice regardless of the evaluation or selection process. I receive calls about our accounting software and if we would consider looking at their product, but we are happy with MIP and are not considering a switch.
