Mixpanel is used throughout our organization to track trends in our data as well as the behavior of our users. Originally deployed alongside Google Analytics and Parse, it has proven to be a hard-hitting, valuable tool. The data we collect and store with Mixpanel helps my team understand the journey of our users, which is invaluable for a growing company.

Lots of data and lots of money? Mixpanel is there. They are experts at enterprise deployment and had a very smooth process that helped us realize what data we should track and gave engineering the tools needed to deploy. Very smooth.
  • Saves time
  • Informs product decisions
  • Predicts issues in user behavior
Mixpanel is way more granular. We do use Google Analytics for top-level trends, but Mixpanel, when properly integrated, shows you the details. Even our marketing team is able to log events, etc. that they care about.
The deployment was smooth as silk and our success manager was top notch. It couldn't have been better.
Yes
Parse. Parse was free but not as feature-rich and was discontinued.

We use it to track user behavior throughout the entire site (SaaS), with a strong focus on the user signup flow. It is used by me (marketing + product) and sometimes designers in order to measure the attrition rate at various stages of the sign up funnel. It helps us to identify potential obstacles that users are facing in signing up for our service.
  • Able to identify users and track their behavior over time
  • Able to calculate user retention funnels
  • Powerful API that goes beyond page views but can also track link click, javascript events, etc
  • Lower pricing (too expensive)
  • More flexibility in setting up user flows (able to map different paths/ decision points branching from the same flow
Need to have technical knowledge in order to fully integrate API tracking within the product with Mixpanel. however, once this has been completed, the tool is extremely useful. Mixpanel is much better than Google Analytics for the user behavioral tracking portion, but is lacking in terms of tracking user acquisition channels/ source/ medium.
  • Greater transparency in knowing where/ why users attrite
  • Identify problems within the product/ UX that are causing problems for users
Mixpanel does a great job in tracking user behavior throughout the site from minute details such as link clicks, to event triggers and general page views. Mixpanel also allows you to set up user flows retroactively which GA doesnt.
Mixpanel is extremely useful but the cost is a huge deterrent

  • Mixpanel is great at building funnels on specific events you would like to track. It also has excellent reporting capabilities and allows you to segment your data and ultimately analyze who your customers are and what they do.
  • Funnel analysis, Segmentation, Reporting - these are areas where Mixpanel excels above other analytics tools.
  • Using Mixpanel, we are able to analyze the use of our product in real time, with real customers, and improve upon any flaws. We can also see how our visitors interact with our site, and help streamline the process for them to take the actions we want.
Mixpanel is a great tool for real analytics data. I can't perceive using anything better.
  • We use Mixpanel to measure user activity on our website and within our SaaS application.
We switched from KISSmetrics to Mixpanel.
We were evaluating KISSmetrics and Mixpanel simultaneously. KISSmetrics was being tested on our front-end events, and Mixpanel was in use for our backend events. Ultimately, with faster reporting capabilities and a more fine-tuned integration with our application, we chose Mixpanel over KISSmetrics.
  • Implemented in-house
Mixpanel is a simple JS script installation. For adding events to track, its simply a matter of adding the code where you want it. Their API and documentation are easy to understand and use.
  • Online training
Mixpanel has a great resource about their product, with videos on how to use it and real world examples from other companies on how they integrate Mixpanel into their business processes.
No
We are fine with email support, as Mixpanel tends to respond very quickly.
Their email support staff is very responsive and they give you a dedicated account rep to handle any support needs.

  • Segmentation - allows us to look at different groups of users and how they respond to our game.
  • First Time Experience - Tutorial funnels help us identify problem areas of our tutorial and ultimately we can onboard more users.
  • Retention - tells us if we are retaining new and existing users.
  • Mixpanel charges based on data points which can encourage skimping on important data points.
  • Takes a while to get used to the interface.
  • Increase in conversion rate.
  • Increase in spend from existing paying users.
Not convinced it provides enough value over a free analytics provider to justify the monthly cost.
Good product overall. Useful, but sometimes difficult to justify the cost compared to a free provider.
  • User Engagement.
  • User Retention.
  • Monetization.
We were previously not using analytics.
Short List - Flurry, Swrve, Mixpanel, Apsalar.

Mixpanel gave us more flexibility than a free provider, but it was still reasonably priced. A great value in the mobile space.
  • Implemented in-house
Again, somewhat annoying to be charged based on data points when many other analytics providers have one flat fee. Implementation was good, but I might have tracked a few more detailed points if I had the option.
  • Self-taught
The product was somewhat difficult to learn without training. I would not recommend this approach to users. Either set up a training with Mixpanel or talk to someone who has used the product.
No
Mixpanel already has a monthly fee. Could not afford more costs associated with the product.
Support is decent, nothing amazing.

  • Tracking of events through their Javascript.
  • Real-time dashboard of all the events that we wanted to track.
  • Determining funnels and pageviews (although it's implied through the events I track).
  • Ability to determine what features on a product are being used, or even seen, by the customer.
  • Ability to determine in real-time the success of new features of the product.
We are not currently using it since were on a free trail and decided not to move to the paid version when the trail concluded. One of the issues was that although the tool was generating large amounts of data, it was too much data for us to deal with. We would have needed more resources to justify paying for it. Given the size of our team, it made more sense to stick with a free tool like Google Analytics which provides less detail but is still very useful and free.
Would like to review mixpanel someday soon as they supposedly have improved their funnel analysis, among other things. As we scale our operations, we will look more closely at Mixpanel, and some other tools to figure out what is the best tool for us moving forward.
  • Determine what events (data-points) were being used by our customers. e.g., which tabs in the creation of a volunteer opportunity were mostly clicked on.
  • Review what events were selected in their real-time graph.
  • Learning and determining which analytics would help capture specific events deemed useful for an analysis of our product.
We didn't switch from anything else. Tested and compared several different products at the same time. Mixpanel was one of those products.
We looked at KISSmetrics, Google Analytics, and our own home-grown system.
  • Implemented in-house
  • Self-taught
It required lots of tinkering and testing, but it did finally pay off. They have pretty good documentation and it was easy to find resources on the web to answer an questions we had.
No
We knew enough that we didn't need it.
