Monetate is being used by the e-commerce teams for two sites which I manage. It enables us to improve conversion and average order value by testing creative and promotional messaging, target messaging to consumers based on behavior and demographic segment, and cross-sell merchandise. Monetate also enables the teams to make quick changes to the site and avoid the time consuming ordeal of submitting tickets to developers and waiting for response and resolution.
  • Monetate used to do things well.. times have changed.
  • Continuous improvement in predictive analytics.
A tool such as Monetate can impact the businesses most if it is able to leverage multiple sources of first and third party data. I would discuss in the evaluation process the best ways for integrating and leveraging those data sources in a way that is scalable. If your team does not yet have a culture of testing, it is worth discussing what organization is required to leverage the tool.
  • Higher conversion rates on desktop and mobile sites since implementation.
  • Faster implementation of changes to the site..reducing the burn of developer hours.
  • Higher average order values.
Monetate is more flexible than Adobe with a much better UI for testing and targeting. It is more cost effective than Certona, and gets higher average order lift than MyBuys for product recommendations.

E-Commerce merchandising and marketing

We use an external company to provide platform support. A developer who understands tag management is required. Beyond the technical support, the team of business users is all that is required. They must have a business curiosity and interest in improving UX to ask questions which could be the basis for tests.
  • Targeting marketing and merchandising content and promotional messaging based on behavior and demo
  • Addressing issues that would normally require IT/solution support engineers
  • Increase average order values via product recommendations
  • Instead of integrating certain third party technology directly into the platform, we wanted to run A/B tests to see what kind of impact it would have on site KPI. So we integrated the technology via Monetate. That gave us the ability to test different placements for the third party CTAs and optimize the UX and conversion.
  • I am consistently surprised how the team turns to Monetate as quasi CMS.
  • We have only scratched the surface of using first and third party data for targeting. We have not yet integrated our CRM data or, loyalty data or customer LTV into the site, or data from social platforms. And we do not yet have a DMP. All of these will help increase the impact of Monetate on the business.
It is a technology that is being used on a daily basis by the team. So it has real value rather than just "potential" value. Monetate continues to roll out new functionality, and, while not cheap, is cost effective.

My biggest concern was the the product would sit on the shelf and go unused. So the UI got a lot of attention in the evaluation. Moreover, since we have a small organization, we discussed the processes that would be needed to make sure the users would be set up for success and were not intimidated by the technology.

We implemented for desktop first, then mobile and email
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
Do not underestimate the time it takes to get people comfortable with a culture of testing. Not just users but also senior management. Develop a process for getting the stakeholders on board and communicate the results of tests and campaigns often.
  • Product image feed to the Monetate visual search tool was not working properly at launch
Make sure that your feeds into Monetate are thoroughly QA'd
Yes
Our team is small, so the users cannot dedicate themselves as much to testing and targeting or setting up more complex campaigns. Therefore, we need to rely more heavily on Monetate's support.
Very responsive and proactive support team. There never seems to be a bandwidth issue on their end to address our questions or issues.

We recently had an important UX issue with our header and nav which needed immediate resolution. The suppport team stepped in quickly to set up the campaigns to resolve the issue.
  • Testing: the who, what when, why UI is very intuitive.
  • Creating campaigns as CMS overrides is almost too easy.
  • We still have not integrated our CRM data into Monetate.
The product has not evolved much since acquired by KIBO

We use Monetate for testing and customization of our desktop and mobile websites. It addresses problems such as customer segmentation for site experience and messaging; providing more relevant products to specific buyers; helping to identify best actions based on multi variant testing; allows us to geo-target, etc. We also heavily rely on the tool to help workaround lengthy development times and costs. We are able to utilize the Monetate tool to do things such as mimic the experience of desktop site on our mobile site; add mobile optimized content/landing pages and product endcaps - which would take much longer to accomplish without Monetate.

Just starting to use email tool - currently geo targeting to help drive to closest stores and will use to test promo language.
  • Tool is very intuitive - easy to use right out of the box. Users can create tests starting day 1 AND it is so easy to build upon existing campaigns..feels like a limitless amount of things you can accomplish right away.
  • Analytics - again straightforward design - easy to access and take away learnings. For example - when we tested abandoned cart messaging (adding links to customer service, etc) with no offer - saw 22% increase in add to cart and 9% decline in bounce rate. Can utilize the Monetate summary dashboard or look at data directly.
  • Support team - consistent knowledgeable members who make the effort to understand client end goals - then help develop action/strategy plan to accomplish AND help execute. Whether providing / assisting with training to helping to troubleshoot to building in-house. Always accessible - whenever i've had a question/issue!
  • Engage email program isn't managed the same way as Merchandiser. While our team helped get us up and running with the tool and provided support in initial programs to test, we have to go through Monetate Support for additional help. Wish it was all in one place/one team.
  • As a small brand that is part of a larger corporation where other brands also use Monetate...think it's a good decision recently implemented to re-organize so that there is a team/acct lead for the corporation. There are a lot of good learnings that we needed someone to facilitate sharing across the different brands. It took a while to implement - but a good improvement.
Things to consider:
Do you have someone in place who has the time to manage tests - creating test plans, building/or working with Monetate to build campaigns and react to results? It is easy to use Monetate to make changes to site quickly (skipping internal development) and to skip the testing - you have to be rigorous in taking advantage of that piece of the tool. Otherwise..
Do you have a clunky development process - that makes it hard to make site changes? Monetate works well for emergency quick fixes (such as updating incorrect messaging/adding a disclaimer) as well as more developmentally intensive changes such as adding Paypal to minicart. It's so easy to use that we often rely on Monetate to manage content pieces on site and mobile.
  • Increased conversion - positive impact. For example - the use of behavioral endcaps on HP and in cart lead to increases in overall conversion rate
  • Increased efficiency - positive impact. Able to make changes quickly in order to support segmented messaging or user experiences. We schedule mutiple homepages across devices and updates take minutes (for example).
  • Increased omnichannel experience - positive impact. Able to get content on mobile site vs redirecting to desktop (poor user experience) by using Monetate.
I give this a 9 because I've never had to actually contact the technical support team. My daily business management team has been able to assist and resolve any issues I've encountered. What especially endears them to me - is that the few times I've had emergencies and couldn't figure out why something wasn't working - account reps have ALWAYS responded right away and helped me figure it out. Whether it's been a Friday evening when everyone is leaving the office or over the weekend (which shouldn't be an expectation but they've always been there). Running a website that is on 24/7 - this counts big time.
Not Sure
No
Friday evening - reached out because I couldn't see a banner that was only to be visible to a specific portion of the traffic. I thought I was screwed - reached out to my rep - literally with an "Are you there?" message because I was sure I wouldn't get an answer....he responded right away - and while he didn't have an immediate answer...promised that he would keep working on it till he figured out the problem - and he did! I got a confirmation email later that evening that it was resolved and screenshot showing it worked correctly. Now that's customer service!
Part of what I love about Monetate is how intuitive the tool is. Very very easy to use - based on the basics - Who/What/When/Where concept. Anyone can jump right in and start using the tool. And very easy to copy campaigns and tweak to continue to build experiences. We recently added Monetate on mobile and similar experience - easy to jump back and forth between platforms. Also love the analytics dashboard...easily quantifiable and easy to get tidbits that are digestible for others not as familiar with tool.
  • Building campaigns/experiences
  • Seeing impact of campaigns using analytics dashboard
  • Scheduling content (like multiple campaigns over Black Friday!)
  • Sometimes Preview doesn't work as I expect it to. This was a challenging question as the tool is really very easy to use...this has just been one area that I've had to reach out for assistance to ensure campaign is working because I can't see. More driven by user knowledge than the tool.
Yes, but I don't use it

We use Monetate for onsite testing and personalization - from very simple a/b content tests to very advanced functionality tests. Occasionally we use it to push content or features quickly when our IT group is backlogged. It is a very robust and yet simple tool for us.
  • Monetate's testing tool is extremely user friendly, reliable and robust. The tool itself allows us to test content and functionality in 2-4 weeks where it would normally take months for our IT team to prioritize and build.
  • Monetate's service is above and beyond. They assign each client a very knowledgeable and helpful client success manager who speaks with us weekly and answers emails daily when we have questions. They are proactive about testing suggestions and ideas and are extremely quick to respond to questions.
  • I truly have no areas for improvement for Monetate.
We are huge Monetate supporters. I feel like it's the best website testing solution available.
  • We have improved conversion, average order size and revenue per session with tests we have run with Monetate. We have also reduced unnecessary labor costs by testing and phasing out processes that are not revenue generating.
The simplicity, performance, reliability, cost and customer service of Monetate are all superior to Adobe in my opinion.
No
The support we receive is, in my opinion, premium without additional cost.
Monetate support team meets with use weekly, answers emails daily and promptly. They are proactive about getting answers for us when we need it and offering suggestions based on observations they have or learnings they want to share from other partners. Monetate's support is top notch.
Yes
All bugs reported have been resolved quickly and successfully.
Monetate provides exceptional support all the time. Compared to other vendors who require you to email a general support alias and work out of a general queue for support questions, Monetate is heads and tails above other vendors. They generally step in to help us build complex tests but regularly offer to build simple ones for us to take the burden off our hands. Monetate's support is excellent.

  • Monetate is able to pull geographical data, and drill down to send the right message to our customers. For example, the tool helped us segment so that we could send banners ads based on IP Address. Since we were product driven, we would send ads with jackets, winter hats, etc to cold weather areas and the reverse to the other side.
  • I liked it and never had any issues.
  • We found that 90% of tests we ran were successful. For the 10% that were not successful, we saved 10% of our project dollars because we did not need to hard code just to see it didn't work.

They represent ecommerce and web analytics.
  • It is used to do A/B Testing on all of our websites. I would test things like cart optimization, banner ads, product overlays, etc. For example we tested on a Diecast for NASCAR having an overlay that said "Autographed" versus the other half just finding out based on the product title. Based on testing results, we also changed the cart to be pink when a product was in the cart compared to the color not changing no matter whether a product was in cart or not.
I loved the product and if it was less expensive I would use it for personal use.
We added this product to have A/B Testing on all of our websites before we hardcoded projects.

My specialist was very quick to answer questions and met with us on a weekly basis to go over results.
It was very user friendly and were given a rep to help us train in the beginning.
