What is N-able Take Control?

N-able™ Take Control (formerly Solarwinds Take Control) and Take Control Plus are cloud-based remote control solutions built for MSPs and IT service businesses that need to securely access and troubleshoot end devices. With support for Windows®, Mac®, and Linux® machines, MSPs can work from those platforms or their iOS® or Android® devices with the N-able native app.

With N-able Take Control, users can assign techs or whole departments to specific customers or individuals so that support tickets get handled efficiently and on time. Technicians can access the system via the bash shell, transfer files silently, and call the system manager to view CPU usage or kill processes. The open system control console for end client devices enables users to diagnose computer and network issues, check event logs, and review or kill processes. Use the remote command line to perform operations in the background, including silently uploading files and activating scripts to seamlessly fix issues. Pass sessions to other technicians to escalate tasks, transfer tickets or employ multiple technicians on a single remote access session without affecting performance.

Take Control Plus offers 500 install agents, 10 end-user accounts for you and your clients for simple remote access, video chat, customizable surveys, session calling cards, registry editing, and password management. Take Control is available free for 14 days, no credit card required.

Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

N-Able has a lot more control and monitoring in comparison.

Remote control is on a whole nother level compared to competitors with screen blanking, mouse and keyboard locking and even remote laser pointing.

Statistics, UAC bypass, and remote registry blow the competition out of the water. No need for workarounds, it just works.

  • SolarWinds Dameware Remote Everywhere (DRE)
In my previous job we used Dameware which was a very good tool but lacked the managing capabilities of N-able. It has been a few years, so maybe Dameware has improved in that regard.

Bad experiences with ConnectWise platforms in general ruled it out for us at this point in time. To be fair this was not really ConnectWise's fault more the team that set things up poorly leading to significant issues across the system.

TeamViewer had long been our go to, but pricing increases, the inclusion of ads (in a not inexpensive product) is infuriating for some. and ongoing poor business behavior reports in the industry lead us to look elsewhere

N-able Take Control combines AV and Internet Security with Remote control whereas the others are isolated products and requires multiple products to achieve what N-able Take Control can

We were primarily a team-viewer customer before this point but the continued increases on cost, feature issues as well as core functionality and load issues we were beginning to see on the host machines we started looking for other options. As we were already a solar-winds customer utilizing the SAAS and Take Control for our Managed customers it was a no-brainer to look into Take Control. After a short review and the fact that we are already very familiar with the system via our management dashboard, it was an easy yes.

Take Control's feature set blows LogMeIn out of the water, however LogMeIn's general performance once connected, destroys anything that Take Control can currently provide.

Take Control can be accessed through a browser whereas Windows Remote Desktop requires settings on the PC and device to remote into the end device. Installing the end devices application has mostly been a flawless install with limited setting configurations. GoToMyPC has often required a reboot of the end device in order to get it working.

I use both SolarWinds MSP Anywhere and ScreenConnect.
SolarWinds MSP Anywhere is perfect for MSP clients on account and with an agent installed. It's integrated and makes all the connected tasks easier and the workflow is improved.

I prefer ScreenConnect for my break/fix clients and random support calls, as it makes it easy to connect to unknown machines, via an emailed link or by directing the client to my remote support site.
