I have been using Notepad ++ as a code editor. I write code in Python, Java and almost all the famous programming languages. It has all amazing editor features such as highlighting text, finding any words, replacing text and debugging. It is very easy to use for technical as well as non-technical background people.
  • Writing text
  • debugging
  • finding text
  • highlighting text
  • indentation
  • simultaneous editing
  • Just the UI part should be improved.
  • It should have integration features with other apps.
  • everything else is perfect.
Specifically in coding of Java, i found Notepad ++ very appropriate. we can easily create Java programs using Notepad++.It is also very easy to run programs written in Notepad++.We can easily debug and text is also automatically highlighted, which makes it easy for us to read program, it also has a perfect indentation.

I mostly use the Notepad++ for making the notes for myself, creating/editing text files. Every time I need to have a look at some huge text files like i.e. logs, I always chose Notepad++, text is well readable, well formatted. Syntax highlighting is also something which helps in reading different file formats, i.e. YML, xml, json etc.
  • syntax highlighting
  • multiple files opened at once in a tab view
  • search
  • comparison view
Great for browsing different types of files i.e. YML, JSON, XML. With all the syntax highlights, it can't be easier to check actual values of different fields. It is easy to check the structure if the file as the whole file is well formatted for the actual file type.

Notepad++ is the best text and source code editor for my personal and professional work. I have been using this software for a very long time since my college days. I used to do my coding projects and save text files in Notepad++ and I still do coding and write text in Notepad++. This software has so many great features and tools for users.
  • Provides you a great platform for coding.
  • You can write and save any text messages or details related to your work.
  • Notepad++ allows users to work with multiple files in a single window.
  • Notepad++ has a dark theme which make my experience more joyful.
  • They need more improvement in code debugging.
  • Users can't install advance packets
  • They can improve or make it a more interesting UI design for users.
  • Sometimes I face slow startup.
Notepad++ is best for someone who writes and saves text files related to work and does some average coding projects. This is the best source code editor with great features and options for its users. You can select background themes and make your coding more joyful. Notepad++ is fast and easy to use on your device.

Notepad++ is probably the best Text Editor. It is open-source, free to use, and has a simple UI. It comes with an option to add plugins that improve usability while adding new features to an already powerful tool. It also comes with Regex support which makes text manipulation easy. I use Notepad++ a lot (almost every day) and it has helped me achieve a lot of things that would usually take hours to complete manually.
  • Multiple Languages Support
  • Syntax Highlighting
  • Plugins Support
  • Regex Support
  • Text Marking
  • It does what it is made for without any problems. I can't think of anything that could be improved further.
Notepad++ is well-suited when you have to manipulate text (regex support makes things very easy and fast). It can also be used as an IDE as it supports a lot of languages and can highlight syntax. Plugins can be added to make things even better (according to your use case).

I am using multiple table options to save the code and there is no limit to multiple tabs. There is an option to change the language like Java, Unix, or SQL and automatically do the formatting of code, this makes complex code understanding very easy. Using Macros help me to automate many companies' repetitive work.
  • I used Notepad++ almost on daily basis for saving important files and programming code. The software is easy to use and GUI is user-friendly.
  • An important feature is the autosave of information, no need to manually save the file.
  • The replace option has an extended feature where you can make use of '/n' etc. Syntax highlighting and support for various languages; I had to deal with a lot of sql, C language and HTML files. This tool made my life easy.
  • It is a Good IDE when we are using SQL. It will clearly show conditional formatting, loops, and other contents as required for avoiding compilation errors.
  • Many times it is asking for an update, when I started the updated process, it will get hung.
  • Opening files having a size of more than 100MB is also sometimes an issue. Except for these issues, the tool is really awesome.
  • The UI looks a bit plain and outdated. It is not a full-fledged IDE and so it lacks support for code auto completion and formatting.
Notepad++ is best suited when you want to do coding in Java, Unix, or SQL. It is having a code formatting option that makes code easy to understand and easy to find out errors and solve the programming issue. It also helps to make notes. A good thing is that it allows opening multiple tabs at a single time. It is less suited when you want to edit a file having a size greater than 100 MB. Or you want to find a typo error from log files.

Notepad++, a professional notepad that works with all Microsoft Windows OS, is an alternative to the popular notepad. With Notepad++, we can unfold and manage large documents quickly and efficiently. The core functionality is outstanding, highlighting, searching, and replacing. It supports many languages and data types such as XML, JSON, and HTML. Notepad++ can store large log files. It is useful for writing and copying code. This application has a small install footprint. It takes up little space on my drive and loads very quickly. Developers use it to create and consume software and large text files. It is ideal for opening large files, which often causes text editors to lag. It's my preferred text editor.
  • Facilitation of code editing
  • The function is easy to use
  • Instances and Multi-Window
  • Plugins make it even more potent
  • Secret or particular characters will appear.
  • No full-dark mode
  • UI appears to be a bit out of date
  • Issues with comparing files
We can see the contents of text files in their original type format because Notepad++ makes it easy to edit text files. It's a simple text editor that takes the place of Windows Notepad. It is ideal for quick notes. The notepad++ is used almost daily by me, particularly for professional use. I can write down activities, tasks, and things to do each day. It's also helpful in diagnosing programming errors. Many plugins make writing in other languages more accessible and fun with Notepad++.

It is commonly used by developers to create software, consume downloads and larger text files and as a day to day jot down tool for notes, thoughts and makes simple text work fairly straightforward. Opening larger files that often slow down in a text editor is a big reason why many began using it, but not use it for day to day notes.
  • Opens large text files gracefully
  • Makes it easy to jot notes and create simple text files
  • Auto saving is a big deal in development and note taking, and it does it incredibly well, even without a saved location
  • Easier splitview options
  • Spreadsheet view
Notepad++ is great for simple coding and client side coding... I prefer Visual Studio for .net code behind work.

Notepad++ is a real treat among several code editors. I have been using this tool for 5 years personally. We use this tool in our entire organization for code editing and debugging. It's a useful tool for both writing code and copying code from other places. It is an extremely lightweight software. It comes with a lot of useful features.
  • It supports over 50 programming, scripting and markup languages.
  • It has a completely customizable user interface. A tabbed interface is one of the best features of Notepad++.
  • We can open several files, even with various language settings.
  • The code syntax is highlighted when the file is saved with a specific file format, making it easy to edit the code.
  • Another useful feature of Notepad++ is autosave.
  • Notepad++ is an open-source code editor that is free to use.
  • There's nothing about this tool that I don't like.
I recommend Notepad++ for all the developers for code editing, debugging, and a lot more. It is a very good tool for writing notes with a lot of features.

Currently we are using Notepad++ as a code editor to build xsl stylesheets for a new peace of electronic data interchange software. It is currently being used by the information technology department. It has completely replaced the windows built in notepad for our team as it is so flexible. It mainly addresses flexibility when working with different file types.
  • Multi Window and Instances
  • The added plugins make it an even more powerful tool
  • Flexibility
  • Can become cluttered
  • Look and feel could do with modernizing but does not affect functionality
  • Auto Completion when Coding
  • Add Multi Cursor
Notepad++ is an excellent program to help any person working with different file types or even a programmer of some sorts. It is a great code editor. It is also great with working with different file types like JSON and XML files. The ability to add plugins into Notepad++ makes formatting code and file types into human readable formats.

Notepad++ is not standard software in the organization but because it is distributed as free software, I personally use it and have seen it used by some of my colleagues. When first looking for a powerful text editor, the available licensed software for this purpose was the commercially licensed UltraEdit. With licensing and having to request yearly for a renewal, I was personally looking for an equally useful alternative which landed me with Notepad++ and I have been using it ever since.
  • Persistent tabs that save content even when shutting down the program or dreaded BSOD
  • Vertical selection for multi-line deletes and edits
  • Regular expression search & replace
  • Quick conversion of encoding and newline characters
  • Toggle word wrap and hidden characters
  • Lots of plugin support
  • Notifies if a file has been changed on disk by another app
  • UI looks a bit dated.
  • Sometimes the number of options are overwhelming and require a quick search to figure out where to locate a particular function.
  • Some way to do a diff between files would be great. Still need to resort to another paid app for that - unless it is a buried function I don't know about or there's a plugin for it.
Notepad++ is a great lightweight text editor and is an immediate install to replace the default Windows Notepad for me. It is suitable for quickly opening and editing single text files and for jotting down quick notes that may be temporary.

It is great for quick edits on copy & pasting pages of text. I would use it to update paths using vertical selection or through regex search & replace.

It is not a full IDE for any kind of code editing but it is very fast to open single code files, xml or json and is my preferred way to look at contents in these files rather than opening in a code editor.

Notepad++ is used by our engineering team who does a lot of formatting for files/docs. I learned how to do the basic coding formatting in college and am able to suggest edits based on how I want the files to look. This is very important because understanding the program between users helps create efficient solutions.
  • Same format as many coding programs.
  • Easy to use
  • Clear text for less confusion between 0 and O - that is an actual issue with some programs.
  • Help support was great to work with!
  • Feels dated, keeps it relevant but the text is very 1980s.
  • A quick list for copying to a clipboard would be helpful if you are using multiple commands which happens often.
  • Need to add auto save, when making changes this would be better like other programs who use it. Just create a quick toggle to use or not use.
When using Notepad++ you can create the coding in a universal standard text and transfer it anywhere you need. We have a few programs built by SAP that we can use a backdoor for custom reports. These reports have little changes and glitches from updates, the coding is a workaround that about 400 people use in the company.

Notepad++ is an essential text editor tool for everyone. I use this tool almost daily in the following areas.

View and Edit config files
I use it to view and edit .NET app configs and settings files. It has syntax highlighting for most common programming languages, JSON and SQL which is very useful.

Search for a string in all text files in a folder
I use this a lot when doing impact assessment for source codes. This feature is so powerful and easy to use.

Search and Replace special characters
You can search and replace special characters like \t, \r, \n. This feature is very useful when working with SQL statements.

Other frequently used features
Vertical text selection
Split/Join lines
Plugs-in

  • Search and Replace text in all files in a folder
  • It is a multiple tab text editor, very fast
  • Syntax Highlighting for most programming languages, SQL and JSON
  • Vertical Text Selection, Join & Split Lines, Search and Replace with special characters, Support Plug-ins
  • It can be used immediately without installation
  • Last but not least, it's free
  • None I can think of.
Notepad++ is good for:
- Viewing and editing source codes where you don't have a suitable IDE.
- Viewing and editing config files (XML, JSON), SQL files.
- Extract data from Excel and build a SQL statement using Vertical Text selection and Search and Replace special characters.
- Performing impact assessment for a source codes using Find in Files.

Notepad++ is less appropriate in the following scenarios:
- Using it as an IDE. Please use a suitable IDE instead.
- Using it to open very large log files.

As a free, open-source product, Notepad++ is being used on an ad-hoc basis. There is a large number of IT users who rely on Notepad++ for their daily use. It allows us to easily resolve issues with EDI files and identify problems with files sent or received. It is also excellent for reformatting files or performing advanced find and replace functions with its native regex capabilities.
  • Regex
  • File encoding
  • Viewing special/hidden characters
  • Full dark mode
  • Integration with source control would be helpful
  • Built-in compare (although available as an add-in)
I've been using the product for years and came over from UltraEdit. Notepad++ is the easiest, most intuitive text editor I have ever used. I also use it for non-work projects. It is excellent for both determining and changing file encoding. Works great for doing searches and replaces--including complex ones--and allows multiple files to be opened at once. It also maintains a copy of your file on closing even if you forget to save.

Mostly developers use Notepad++. It is a great text editor for developers. I also keep notes about ongoing projects there. Many developers use the multi-tab option, and we like selection of columns.
  • Multiple tabs open at once
  • Column selection for find/replace is very useful for developers
  • Auto-Save is really handy
  • Convert case
  • Predictive typing
  • Colors for different parts of code (language vs variables)
  • Nothing, this is a great product as is
[Notepad++ is] perfect for developers who need multi-language support and column selection. Much lighter/less overhead than Visual Studio. Also great for pre-composing an email.

I use Notepad++ on a daily basis. It's been my go-to scratchpad for notes for over 6 years, it's fast, lightweight, supports a lot of plugins, and is reliable in persisting unsaved notes when closed. It allows me to quickly jot down reminders, meeting notes, ideas, and just about anything quickly and easily so I can go back later and put the notes into project management tools, journals, etc.
  • Fast and Lightweight: Opens quickly and can stay open without using much memory.
  • Simple & Clean: Much faster and easier to use than other text editors, while being more robust than the standard Notepad App.
  • Flexible: There are some handy plugins for text manipulation, programming, and more.
  • While the UI is clean and simple, it's also dated. There are themes that can alter the appearance of the text editor itself, but the icons, tabs, etc. could use a bit of a facelift.
  • Lack of useful autocompletion for coding while full-fledged IDEs or alternative code editors work fine, it would be nice to be able to write out some quick scripts with suggestions appearing as you type to speed things up.
For quick notes, Notepad++ can't be beat. It's fast, reliable, flexible, and robust, without cluttering up the experience. However, it's not a great choice for documents that need formatting (proposals, resumes, business plans, etc.). Additionally, it supports programming languages to an extent, but there are better tools if you need to write more than a few quick lines of code.

We use Notepad++ on most of the computers in our office as an alternative to notepad. We also install Notepad++ on all of the computer systems that we deploy. One of its biggest strengths is that it keeps all of the recent files you have opened available in tabs within the program. It is capable of opening many payment types, it also supports plugins for things such as compare.
  • Compare - allows us to compare system files and license files that we use
  • Coding - it automatically understands code type files and delineates them in an easy to read fashion.
  • xml - it can open and organize xml files into an easy to read format
  • search and replace - it is very fast
  • plugins - it supports using plugins for various expanded functions, there are several hundred available
  • the default save location is in the program folder, you can change this in settings
  • some functions that you would think should be standard require plugins
Notepad++ is well suited if you work configuration or settings files on a regular basis. It also is very useful with coding and html. I personally use it to take notes when on phone calls. No matter what you are doing it always keeps whatever you were working on even if you do not choose to save. It can handle very large files without any issues.

I think everybody uses Notepad++. It's a good tool on Windows. All my text and csv files are viewed and edited on this tool. It's easy to install and use and no brainer. However, there are so many features that require some digging and exploring. They really make the work easy.
  • Regex
  • Line joining
  • Search Replace
  • Out of the box features can be enhanced
I use it for text editing and viewing. I also use it for performing search and replace using regular expressions. It's very intuitive for bulk tasks. I use it to build queries based on a list of fields. I also generate some code from the tool by using search replace.
I actually do not know this. I did not have any experience with that.

It is used by our IT Dept and some of our computer classes for coding and log analysis.
I allows our computer lab teachers an easy to use program for web code editing and teaching web code.
It allows my teammate in IT an simple notepad program for log viewing and working with web urls for our web filter.
It is also handy for writing scripts and creating simple csv lists.
  • Easy to install and easy to use.
  • You can edit most any programming language and create a huge variety of file times.
  • It can highlight code once you save it as a particular file type. This makes it easier to edit your code and scripts.
  • More aesthetically pleasing interface.
  • More options for code testing.
It's great for when you need a simple and lightweight text or code editor without a lot of fluff.
It would be less appropriate for when you need a specific tool for coding that requires it to be tested and compiled.

I have used Notepad++ for years now to do software coding, holding system settings, and other general needs of software and computer management. I find that it easily holds, manages, and stores all my needed information in a concise and useable manner for my needs.
  • Manages colors for organizing software coding lines
  • Tabbed pages so that you can manage code between different files
  • Ability to open a new tab, don't name it, close the program, and open it back up with all the data still there.
  • Settings could be organized better. Sometimes you have to dig down to find the right settings.
I am using Notepad++ to teach my nieces and nephews how to do code. This will help them in the future. They are only 12 and 14, but I found that this will definitely help out. I also use it regularly--even at home--to store information that I might need. I love being able to close the program and open up right back to where I was prior to closing it.

I use [Notepad++] in my career both professionally and in my side work designing websites and programming. It is a helpful tool to use when writing code and also to open current or copy code grabbed from other sources. Before Notepad++, I typically used straight Notepad. I like the line numbers that are available as it helps me find syntax errors when coding.
  • Robust and full of features such as programming language specific settings
  • Like being able to create new tabs, so I can easily go back to a prior project
  • For a computer savvy person, its simple to use...simple menus, robust search features
  • The ability to build and test macros, is more of a universal programming environment than a text editor
  • I personally can't think of any room for improvement
  • With its universal programming environment, a way to compile would be great
  • Maybe a way to run code within the program instead? However there may be copyright issues
When writing code for webpages or code for software, [Notepad++] is a great tool. Its a great tool to lay out the code then copy it into the actual coding environment for testing. It is also a great tool when you are trying to troubleshoot and need a way to mull through the code line by line and find errors. I have used it when I am making annual changes to a webpage where the change is listed in multiple places...and want to do a bulk change.

We are using Notepad++ for writing coding or to validate syntax for VBS, SQL etc. Also validate the binary input files. It is a very easy application for file read and write in any format.
  • Easy file read and write acess.
  • Reads many file formats.
  • Easy coding in multiple languages.
  • Selecting a programming language should provide user with Auto fill syntax and validation with respective programming language.
  • Should get in mobile with Dark Mode.
  • Option to save in Google Drive or any storage where the files can be accessed anywhere.
Read any file format and it is more accessible than Notepad or any open source application. Easy to save and execute.
Open source application with multiple option which reduces the work done on programming, file manipulation and processing like creating editing.

Notepad++ is being used by our IT department within our organization. The business problem it addresses for us is allowing us to quickly look at code without having to open our various development platforms. Notepad++ also helps with displaying code in a very readable format by auto-indentation and color-coding. The minute setting capabilities allows each developer to customize it to their liking.
  • The auto-indentation allows us to more easily create/review code.
  • Color-coding depending on which development language is being viewed is very helpful.
  • The auto-saving feature is very helpful if you accidentally close the app or if your system crashes.
  • The app becomes a bit unresponsive at times when opening large log files.
  • Only works in Windows.
  • It has a bit of an old application feel to it. It would be nice to have an updated more modern UI.
Quite often, I use Notepad++ to quickly edit files and pages without having to open a more powerful IDE. When I have to update SQL scripts, Notepad++ is my go-to application unless the script gets too complicated. The default indentation feature alone has caused me to replace using regular Notepad on my system.
I haven't needed to utilize any support related to Notepad++. I guess this is a good thing because I found it to be quite intuitive. There are almost infinite features you can tweak and plugins you can download but I haven't had to do that because Notepad++ is really good right out of the box.

Notepad++ is being used by almost everyone in the organization as it is the best tool to keep our data for a quick reference. One can use it as an IDE tool for almost 60 languages and scripts which makes it a one-stop application to use any language. The autosave option is also one of the best reasons.
  • Free and takes less amount of storage in order to install it.
  • Code auto-complete and syntax highlight works for almost all the languages that it supports.
  • Copying or cutting the data based on the number of characters in a row is also great.
  • Lots of plugins available.
  • Only text data can be saved unlike Microsoft One Note where we can paste the screenshots or any other format files along with the source links.
  • It hangs while dealing with a large amount of data.
  • The user interface is not so appealing. It would be great if Dark mode also available.
You can work on many languages at a time by switching between the files in the application. It is also the perfect tool to open WINSCP output files.
Initial versions of Notepad++ were very slow and there were many bugs but they keep updating and fixing bugs with new features. Though they provide many features and language support, they make sure that the size and installation are easy.

I use Notepadd++ for everything from taking a few notes, to using it as a full web-code editor. It is so versatile.
  • Easy to use.
  • Expand it using plugins.
  • Plugin admin could be easier to navigate.
  • Dark-mode (which is very popular) should exist.
I use all the time when I'm jotting down notes for something. In case anything goes wrong and my computer crashes, I can rest assure that my notes are saved and will return when I load the program again. It is a text editor so features like bold and italics don't exist.
I've never actually used the support for Notepad++ because I've never needed to. Everything just seems to work in the software that I don't seem to feel the need to contact support. It's a very rare occasion when that exists in software. I've been lucky that nothing I've done with the programs has caused it to crash, or fail in someway.

I am not sure if it is used across the whole organization, but my department uses it. According to me, it is an amazing tool that every programmer must have and use. Notepad++ supports more than 50 programming/scripting languages. That is just one of the many features of this tool. Others being Auto-completion, spell checking, auto-save, and many more.
  • Autosave
  • Supports more than 60 programming/scripting languages.
  • Nothing I can think of
Notepad++ is an application that is well suited for almost all the tasks of a developer, for example, code editing, taking notes, code analysis, and many more. Unfortunately, it is not an IDE, so it cannot be used to compile the code.
I never had any issues with this application till now. This application deserves the maximum rating.
